- we have already written about them on the pages of this site). And there is also Russian, but by no means Krasnodar, which has already lost the status of "the most northern in the world", thanks to our British friends, who collected the first tons of their English tea leaves two years ago. Undeservedly relegated to the second role, Ivan-tea, which is fireweed, and dremukha, and Koporsky plus a good two dozen names, is truly our national drink. From time immemorial, fireweed has been a welcome guest on tables "both in palaces and in huts." Europeans bought thousands of poods of ivan tea, the useful properties and taste of which were highly valued.

Beneficial from root to top

Fireweed grows practically throughout the vast territory of Russia, not being picky about weather conditions at all. Its ground part is harvested from July to September (during the flowering period), the roots - in spring or autumn. Flowers, leaves, stems, roots contain:

  • tannins(mainly of the pyrogallic group. They have a hemostatic, astringent and anti-inflammatory effect);
  • (kaempferol,. have antispasmodic, diuretic and choleretic properties);
  • (demanded by bone and connective tissues);
  • mucous substances(have enveloping properties, relieve pain, inflammation, soothe seizures);
  • alkaloids(in small doses, they have a stimulating effect on metabolism, blood circulation, are analgesics);
  • (thanks to him, Ivan tea can be stored for a long time);
  • (stimulates metabolism, has a powerful wound-healing effect);
  • polysaccharides(irreplaceable participants in immune processes);
  • organic acids(maintain normal acid-base balance);
  • macro- and trace elements(iron, manganese - stimulate the process of hematopoiesis. Nickel, molybdenum, boron - are necessary for normal metabolism).

Thanks to its impressive composition, Ivan tea has very extensive medicinal properties. It has an excellent sedative effect (at the level of valerian) and is used for insomnia, irritability, various neuroses (that's why the people called him "dumb"). The astringent ability of fireweed infusions is generally recognized; they are indicated for disorders in the work of the digestive system. Preparing such an infusion is very simple:

  • 1 tablespoon of dried fireweed herb is poured with a glass of boiling water;
  • infused in a warm place;
  • at the end of 2 hours it is filtered.

The resulting infusion is drunk 1 tablespoon 3 or 4 times a day.

The crushed leaves of willow tea are applied to the wounds, which heal very quickly thanks to this.

The anti-inflammatory properties of fireweed are successfully used in the complex treatment of diseases of the genitourinary system such as acute and chronic cystitis. There are facts about the very successful use of medicinal infusions of this plant to get rid of prostatitis.

Ivan tea has an antibacterial effect, thanks to which it is widely used to treat stomatitis, gingivitis, tonsillitis.

In addition, infusions of fireweed are recommended to drink with inflammation of the pancreas: 3 tablespoons of dried leaves are brewed with 0.6 liters of boiling water, insisted for about 10 minutes. Then filter and take a quarter of a glass necessarily warm before and after each meal.

This wonderful plant has a beneficial effect on.

Ivan found use of tea in cooking. Very tasty and healthy salads can be prepared using its young shoots:

  • 100 g of fireweed shoots;
  • 50 g green onions;
  • 2 tablespoons ;
  • ¼ a small lemon;
  • 20 g sour cream;
  • salt and ground black pepper - according to taste.

Leaves with stems are dipped in boiling water for 1-2 minutes, chopped finely, chopped green onions are added, mixed with sour cream, into which the lemon was previously squeezed.

Hunters offer their own recipe (all components are taken "by eye"): chop young shoots of fireweed, sverbig and sorrel, salt the resulting green mixture, season with spicy tomato sauce, decorate their creation with slices of steep. It turns out to be a good addition to dishes from hunting trophies.

And ground dried roots of fireweed are added to flour, products baked from it acquire a very pleasant taste.

Ivan tea is a wonderful honey plant, its flowers attract many bees. Experts have calculated that up to 1 ton of excellent honey is harvested from 1 hectare of fireweed plantation.

Ivan tea does not need to be specially grown ...

The name speaks for itself

Until the end of the 19th century, Great Britain itself was one of the main buyers of our Ivan tea. The inhabitants of the Rzhevsky district, as well as the village of Koporye, which is located 100 km from St. Petersburg, were the most successful in its production at that time. This settlement gave another name to the drink - Koporsky tea. The recipe for its manufacture, which has not been patented, is something like this:

  • they collected young leaves of ivan tea, dried them;
  • poured into tubs and scalded with boiling water;
  • put in troughs, rubbed until juice appeared;
  • kept from 12 to 24 hours;
  • laid out on baking sheets and finally dried in a Russian oven;
  • cooled, crumpled again and packed in linen bags.

The result was Russian fermented tea, unusually healthy and very tasty. He was a worthy competitor to his overseas brethren.

To fully appreciate the taste of any drink, you need to know how to prepare it. And what about Ivan tea, how to brew it? This very important process consists of the following steps:

  1. The kettle must be rinsed with boiling water. Pour 2-3 teaspoons of tea leaves into it, add 0.5 liters of boiling water. Some experts recommend chilling it down to 80 degrees. Better to use purified or spring water.
  2. You should first fill the kettle with a third, wait about 5 minutes, then add the rest of the water. Wrap up the kettle is not worth it.
  3. Withstand the drink for another 10 minutes, after which you can start a tea feast.
  4. The tea leaves can be poured with boiling water 4-5 times, due to which the taste of Ivan tea will be revealed more and more fully.
  5. It is better to drink Koporye tea without sugar. Dried fruits and honey are appropriate.
  6. This drink can be safely stored for 2-3 days, while the beneficial properties remain unchanged. It can also be consumed chilled.

Ivan tea is good in all respects, contraindications to its use are individual intolerance, as well as excessive fanaticism (do not get too carried away, everything is good in moderation).

A natural question may arise: why did the production of such a useful and popular drink suddenly stop in Russia, the cost of which was quite low? The answer is painfully familiar: unfair competition and betrayal of national interests in the name of their own benefit.

The fact is that at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, it dawned on the British that Russian tea was pushing out of this market segment the goods supplied by their East India Company. Then they staged a real persecution of our Ivan-tea, spreading rumors that this product is being rubbed with white clay, which is supposedly very harmful to health. This slander had an effect: purchases of Russian tea fell sharply.

Moreover, in the domestic market, the Koporye drink was stabbed in the back. Under pressure from the then tea oligarchs supplying imported tea to the Russian market, at the beginning of the 20th century, amendments were made to the Industrial Legislation: “It is prohibited to sell poorly baked bread, meat of unhealthy livestock and livestock, drunk and Koporye teas”.

So Russian tea became a prohibited drink in its own country.

Recently, however, there has been a steady increase in interest in this drink. First of all, because its chemical composition has already been studied well enough and its healing properties have been appreciated. Moreover, tea made from fireweed does not contain caffeine, about the very harmful effect on the human body of which many scientists sound the alarm.

A number of Russian companies began to master the production of Koporye tea in industrial volumes, because it grows literally underfoot, does not require maintenance, the processing technology, including fermentation, is quite simple. It remains only to remind the Russians about their national drink - Ivan-tea, because its beneficial properties are truly great. And perhaps in a few years, instead of pu-erh or milk oolung, you will gather for a cup of Koporye tea ...

What is fireweed

What is fireweed, useful properties and contraindications, what are the medicinal properties of this plant, all this is of great interest to those who lead a healthy lifestyle, monitor their health, and are interested in traditional methods of treatment, including with the help of medicinal herbs and spices ... So we will try to answer these questions in the following article.

Fireweed (lat.Epilóbium) is a genus of herbs or dwarf shrubs of the Cyprus family (Onagraceae). Previously, plants of the genus Ivan-tea (lat.Chamaenerion) were also included in the genus of fireweed.

Fireweed is a tall herb with long leaves and large dark pink flowers found on all continents in temperate zones. Fireweed prefers well-lit places: flat banks of rivers and streams, meadows, burnt places and clearings.

The English name for narrow-leaved fireweed, or willow tea - Fireweed - means "weed of conflagrations." On lands devastated by fire, this plant appears first, preparing conditions for the settlement of other plants in the future.

Fireweed flowers consist of four pink sepals, four loose petals, eight stamens and a bent pistil. All flowers are collected in a pointed brush, they open from six to seven in the morning. At the base of its rose petals, it is easy to find drops of nectar, which are removed by winged workers - up to a thousand kilograms per hectare - and then turn it into fragrant light honey. The leaves are lanceolate, alternate, very similar to willow leaves. Small seeds with white hairs. A hectare of fireweed sows such seeds up to four billion, they have excellent germination and germination energy.

In folk medicine, both the aerial part of the fireweed - leaves and flowers, and the underground part - the rhizome are used. The collection of leaves and flowers occurs during the flowering period of the medicinal plant, and the flowers should not be fully opened, since there is a high probability that they will turn into seeds during the drying process. Before drying, the leaves are separated from the shoots and laid out under a canopy in a thin layer.

The roots are harvested after flowering (in the autumn). After digging, the rhizome is cleaned of the earth and washed well under cold water, after which it is dried in the oven at a temperature of 70 ° C.

Why is fireweed useful

If you examine only 100 g of the green mass of a plant, you will find that it contains 16 mg of manganese, 2.3 mg each of iron and copper, 1.3 mg each of nickel and titanium, b mg of boron and 0.44 mg of molybdenum. These metal particles are excellent stimulants in the process of hematopoiesis.

The roots and leaves of narrow-leaved fireweed contain 10–20% tannins, up to 0.4% ascorbic acid, carotene, sugar, pectin substances, mucus, alkaloids. Fireweed seeds contain up to 40–45% fatty oil.

Before budding, in the aerial part of narrow-leaved fireweed there is up to 20% protein, phosphorus, calcium, cobalt salts, up to 15% mucus.

All parts of the plant are used in fireweed. So, its roots are boiled and eaten like asparagus, they taste like a cross between asparagus and cauliflower, and are quite nutritious due to the high starch content. But the roots are not only pleasant to the taste, they are also beneficial, as they have a mild laxative effect, preventing constipation. For the same purpose, you can drink an infusion of fireweed.

A large amount of various mineral salts contained in this magical herb - magnesium, calcium and potassium - serve to normalize the functioning of almost all organs of the human body. There are a large amount of tannins in fireweed, which allows it to be used for intestinal disorders.

The healing power of this miracle herb acts on all parts of its path through the body, including the urinary tract. Therefore, a decoction, infusion or alcoholic tincture of fireweed is successfully used in the treatment of inflammatory diseases of the urinary tract. For example, with chronic cystitis, which are difficult to treat and tend to relapse, it is simply irreplaceable.

There are many in the composition of fireweed and vitamins, and the amount of vitamin C in its leaves is three times more than in orange fruits. Sugar and carotene, pectin substances and alkaloids are also found in various parts of fireweed. The oil content in the seeds is up to 45%.

Fireweed contains:

  • flavonoids (quercetin, kaempferol, which has an antispasmodic choleretic and diuretic effect);
  • tannins (up to 20% of the tannins of the pirogal group, which have astringent anti-inflammatory and hemostatic effects);
  • mucus (up to 15%, which provides emollient and enveloping properties, the ability to relieve inflammation, soothe pain, soothe and relieve cramps);
  • a small amount of alkaloids (these substances are poisonous in large doses, but in small doses they have remarkable healing properties, they can improve metabolism, blood circulation, the state of the nervous system are good pain relievers);
  • chlorophyll (a green plant pigment that absorbs light energy, stimulates wound healing, improves metabolism);
  • pectin (this substance increases the shelf life of tea).
  • The leaves contain vitamins, especially a lot of carotene (provitamin A) and vitamin C (up to 200–388 mg - 3 times more than in oranges).
  • The roots are rich in starch (this is a storage carbohydrate of plants), polysaccharides (these carbohydrates are involved in immune reactions), organic acids (participate in biochemical reactions, play an important role in maintaining acid-base balance).

In addition, a large amount of trace elements that stimulate hematopoiesis are found in the leaves of ivan tea - iron, copper, manganese and other trace elements necessary for metabolism - nickel, titanium, molybdenum, boron.

Contraindications fireweed

There are not many contraindications for use of fireweed. In the case of using medicines according to precise prescriptions, only its positive effect on the body is felt. In case of an overdose, mild stomach upset sometimes occurs.

The healing properties of fireweed

The unique composition determines the variety of medicinal properties of Ivan tea. This is a mild laxative, emollient, enveloping, wound healing, analgesic, anticonvulsant effect. Ivan tea surpasses all medicinal plants in its anti-inflammatory properties - it has been scientifically proven that it has the highest anti-inflammatory coefficient among plants! And in terms of its tranquilizing effect (sedative, reducing the feeling of tension, anxiety, fear), it has no equal at all.

In folk medicine, willow tea has long been considered also an antineoplastic agent. And scientific studies have confirmed the centuries-old experience of herbalists, a high-molecular compound hanerol was isolated from the inflorescences of ivan tea, which exhibits antitumor activity, has a relatively low toxicity and a wide range of effects on tumors.

Fireweed gives us:

  • prevention of malignant and benign neoplasms;
  • enhances potency;
  • effective in diseases of the genitourinary system (powerful prevention of prostititis);
  • scarring ulcers of the stomach and duodenum;
  • increased immunity to respiratory viral infections;

The beneficial properties of fireweed help a person in the treatment of many diseases, while you can use them not only when taking infusions and decoctions of fireweed inside, but also when applied externally. These can be baths from a decoction of the plant, compresses and gargles.

Such baths treat eczema, purulent wounds, ulcers. Also, crushed fireweed leaves are applied to inflamed wounds that do not heal for a long time. The fireweed poured over with boiling water is applied in the form of compresses to the joints and muscles, relieving painful sensations with such a compress.

The components that make up fireweed help to normalize sleep for people suffering from insomnia. Experiments carried out by scientists have shown that fireweed has an anticonvulsant effect, and the drug "Hanerol" obtained from the plant is now being tested as an antitumor agent of high activity.

Fireweed for men

The beneficial properties of fireweed for men are worth mentioning separately. In such a situation, the optimal way out of the situation will be the use of Koporye tea, which significantly alleviates the symptoms of the disease, and also inhibits the development of the tumor. With timely treatment, the disease can disappear altogether, thereby avoiding surgical intervention.

The danger of various varieties of fireweed

To get the most out of narrow-leaved fireweed, you need to be able to properly collect, prepare and brew this plant. But each person is different in their preferences regarding the strength, fermentation and methods of brewing tea drinks.

Therefore, we will tell you more about the dangers and contraindications of various types of tea.

Why is ivan tea harmful?

  • Green... It is not without reason that this gull can be included in the list of the healthiest drinks. And many doctors who use alternative therapies and herbal medicine in their work even put him at the top of such a list. But for all its medicinal nature, it also has a number of contraindications.

Therefore, do not abuse green tea when:

  • increased excitability and insomnia, including chronic;
  • tachycardia, arrhythmias;
  • hypotension (especially when eating excessively hot);
  • (green ivan tea increases the acidity of the stomach and increases the secretion of gastric juice;
  • pregnancy and during hepatitis B.

With all that, the above list of contraindications is not critical and not categorical. It is possible to limit the consumption of tea, especially when you prefer a strong brew and more often than 6 times a day. But in a moderate dose, the benefits always outweigh the harm.

  • Unfermented... Unlike fermented tea, this variety has a higher alkaloids content. What are alkaloids? These are nitrogen-containing compounds, in this case of plant origin. In small doses, they bring invaluable help to the body. But at the same time, if you do not know the measures in their consumption, they can cause poisoning.
  • Fermented... This type of tea has a richer taste, but thanks to this method of processing the herb, a certain amount of useful properties and elements is lost. However, this cannot be said that the drink becomes more harmful. Care should be taken when consuming a fermented beverage. After all, long-term use (more than 2 weeks) can cause diarrhea.
  • Granulated... By and large, the granular consistency is a derivative of the fermented species, passed through a meat grinder. Therefore, useful and not very useful properties are preserved.
  • Leaves and flowers... For the procurement of raw fireweed, the ground part of the fireweed is most often used. Indeed, most of the healing substances are concentrated in the leaves and inflorescences. Here the danger can only lie in improper collection and procurement of raw materials. For example, if ivan tea grew along the road, it was either harvested in the spring, or vice versa later than the flowering period. How to do it right
  • Roots... They are rarely used in the preparation of tea raw materials, more often for the preparation of infusions for grinding and fresh in cooking. Poor quality raw materials can cause harm. For example, if the ecological situation in the growing area is unfavorable.
  • Fireweed honey... This honey has a beneficial effect on the body. But there are also some limitations. We are talking about (the disease can worsen) and (the composition contains substances that can cause asthma attacks).

Side effects are, of course, possible. But unlikely. Although with the onset of unpleasant sensations, the reception should be stopped.

In reality, poisoning can occur in several cases:

  • overdose;
  • personal intolerance to the components;
  • moldy tea;
  • poor quality water when brewing;
