I propose to cook cutlets from freshly frozen mackerel. They are prepared quickly and simply.
Rice in minced fish perfectly performs the function of a connecting element, more often eggs play its role in minced meat. But in this recipe we will not use them. Onion I pass through a meat grinder along with fish fillet, but you can cut the onion into cubes and fry until golden brown, and then add to the minced meat. Frozen mackerel cutlets

We will need the following products:

  • Fresh-frozen mackerel - 0.9 - 1 kg.
  • Onion - 1 pc.
  • Boiled rice - 150 gr.
  • Ground black pepper - 1 pinch
  • Salt - 1/3 tsp
  • Breadcrumbs - 5 - 6 tbsp.
  • Vegetable oil - 1/5 cup

Let the mackerel defrost room temperature. Then remove the heads and tails.

We cut the abdomen and remove the insides, wash the fish.

We cut the mackerel carcass in half along the vertebral bone, remove the bones, remove the skin.

We cut the fillet into pieces (you can cut it quite large, because we will scroll the fish through a meat grinder).

Peel the onion and cut into several pieces.

In a bowl, combine minced fish, cooked rice, salt and pepper.

Mix the ingredients well.

How to cook at home




First of all, you need to go to the nearest store and buy fresh-frozen mackerel good quality. Place the fish in the sink and rinse thoroughly with cool water. Pat dry with paper towels. To clean from the insides, it is best when the fish is slightly frozen. If it is completely defrosted, then it is harder to work with it. Take kitchen scissors and cut off all the fins and tail. Cut off the head. Open the tummy and remove all the insides. Rinse thoroughly to remove the black film and dry immediately.



Turn the fish over on its stomach. Take a sharp knife and make a shallow incision along the entire spine. Remove skin.



Separate the fillet from the spinal bone. This can be done with a sharp knife or with your hands. Fillet cut in small pieces. Remove large bones. While we are cleaning the fish, it will completely defrost.





Now the pulp needs to be crushed. Use a meat grinder, blender or food processor for this. Transfer the chopped fillet to a convenient deep bowl.

How to cook mackerel cutlets

Peel (we cut off the heads, tails, fins of the fish, remove the insides and the black film (the film gives bitterness) and rinse the mackerel. Add salt to a pot of water and boil the mackerel in a small amount of water.

Then cool the fish. Remove bones and spine from mackerel. Finely chop the fish meat, as in the photo. You can additionally pass fish meat through a meat grinder or blender.

Finely chop the onion and lightly fry in a pan without oil. In a separate bowl, mix the chopped mackerel, onion, lemon juice, tandoori masala, ginger, garlic, bread, egg and finely chopped fresh herbs.

Form cutlets. Roll each cutlet in semolina. Fry in oil on each side low fire until golden brown. Approximately 5 minutes.
