On the shelf with spices is turmeric, curry, ground coffee. I went over different ways staining and chose those that seemed the most unusual, interesting. I had to buy only oak bark, tea from sudanese roses(hibiscus), dry nettle. They are easy to find in the nearest pharmacy and supermarket.

I decided to divide the staining process into stages for greater clarity. I will tell you more about each. Everything is done as simply as possible and I guarantee that even such clumsy creators like me will succeed.

Preparing eggs for painting.

Eggs must be washed. This is necessary not only for hygiene and safety purposes, but above all, to remove the protective film from the shell, which will prevent the dye from laying down evenly. Blue factory seals are easily washed off with regular baking soda. Pour it on a sponge, rub a little and rinse warm water. Wipe the eggs dry (a paper kitchen towel works well) and put them in a tray.

It is better to take non-metal containers for staining.

Sources on the Internet claim that the metal can oxidize and this will somehow affect the coloring. I decided not to risk it and chose washed and dried plastic containers from under the salt. We buy them often and love them very much. A couple of old ceramic cups also came in handy. In theory, they should be washed off easily, the dyes are natural, but I decided not to risk it.

I took the pot for making decoctions in which I recently burned buckwheat, could not wash it and planned to throw it away.

On the Internet you will find a million and one ways to prepare such a coloring decoction, but I did everything the old way grandma's recipe: poured 2-3 large handfuls of dye into the pan, poured water, added salt generously (so that the eggs did not crack), laid the eggs. The liquid should cover them. It is better to take a small saucepan so that the cooking process goes faster. We wait until the broth with eggs boils and after that we count the time, depending on what degree of readiness you want to get.

Crib :

Soft-boiled eggs - 2-4 minutes.
To get the yolk with a liquid core - 4-8 minutes (in fact, 7 minutes of boiling is the ideal time for boiling eggs).
Very hard boiled - 8-10 minutes.

When the eggs "boil" the allotted time, we transfer them to the container prepared for coloring and pour the broth. You can pre-strain it to make the color more uniform, but I did not do that. I like the texture and "marbling" that turned out in the end. The broth should completely cover the eggs! Otherwise, you will get strange and ugly unpainted areas. It is important not to forget! Add 2-3 tablespoons of vinegar to the broth so that the dye holds better and does not stain your fingers after staining.

Sudanese rose (karkade) is sold in almost every supermarket. Apparently, this tea is not particularly popular (but in vain, it has a pleasant sourness and in summer, when cold, with ice, it quenches thirst very well), so you will have to look for it on the lowest shelves. The cost is up to 100 rubles. I would like to note that rose petals are very photogenic and can be useful to you as an interesting decoration for food photos.

I bought dried nettles in this form in the supermarket. It turns out that the trend of using natural dyes is becoming quite popular.

Erm… There was nothing else in the pack. Only this bag of dry grass. With the same success, I could buy a pack of nettles in a pharmacy and it would cost half the price.

I also bought a dozen quail eggs to see how they would look after dyeing. I love easter decor using these spotty crumbs.

The beauty of natural dyes is that they can all be used later. For example, turmeric is an essential ingredient in oriental rice. For a decoction, you need to take 2-3 tablespoons with a slide.

Deep brown tint that is obtained when using oak bark, can be obtained by preparing a very strong coffee broth. But it was a pity for me to translate coffee for such a case.

It is not necessary to finely chop the cabbage. You will still cook it for a long time and then insist.

I could not resist and took out one egg from the cabbage broth in just an hour. It turned out to be a very beautiful and delicate blue color.

- The more coloring ingredient - the richer the decoction. If you want to get gentle, pastel colors that are now in fashion, you should take this into account.

- Eggs in the broth should be left for 2-3 hours. It all depends on your desire and imagination. You can put the bowls of decoction in the refrigerator overnight and get richer and brighter colors.

- Immediately there will be no color and even a shade! Don't be scared! The eggs will be white. It takes time to color. We do not use chemistry, which acts instantly.

- Red cabbage stains eggs the fastest. Within an hour they become soft blue. You can experiment and get a color gradient by removing a couple of eggs from the broth every few hours. You get one color, but a different tone. Looks great!

- Eggs that are taken out of the broth do not need to be rubbed! Just blot gently with a paper towel or napkin! Natural dyes are very easy to wash off. The egg must dry naturally. This will allow the dye to set in. But! This property can also be creatively beaten. If you want vintage paint with scuffs, you can rub a little harder in some places and it will look like scratches. You can also leave for half an hour - an hour in the broth, so that the color is thicker.

In addition, green color is given by water colored with brilliant green (put boiled eggs in it and let stand), you can still chop spinach (larger) and boil eggs with it.

Golden, yellow, slightly orange color (turmeric)

For coloring with turmeric, you need:

Turmeric - 2 tablespoons;
Water - 0.5 liters;
Table vinegar (6-9%) - 1 tablespoon.

How to make yellow paint: add eggs, turmeric and vinegar to the water and boil the eggs in it until cooked. If you want a more orange, reddish color, use more turmeric.

Lilac, purple, pink, mauve (berry)

Berries (everything that is usually heavily painted: blueberries, currants, blackberries, cherries, cranberries, strawberries can be frozen) must be crushed with a crush and roll in berry puree boiled eggs. You can just take a handful of berries and, pressing, rub boiled eggs with them.

Then shake off the used pulp and dry the eggs. As soon as the paint dries, grease with a drop of vegetable oil.

Such multi-colored eggs are obtained, dipped in different food colors. You just need to know what colors you get when you mix them.

Berries do not need much, puree (crushed berries) can be reused.

In general, friends, eggs can be colored with everything bright and edible, which usually stains us when cooking: beetroot and carrot juice, all sorts of berries, from which hands and lips turn blue, infusion of saffron and marigolds ... except that sea buckthorn will not work, because it is oily and will not stick to the shell.

If you decide to decorate Easter eggs with a pattern ( a mixture of gouache and PVA glue 1: 1) and you don’t know how to portray this, or if you don’t know how to draw, then you can use a stencil. The stencil is made of paper in which holes are cut - randomly or in the form of an ornament, in the form of circles, squares, flowers, stripes, leaves - anything can be cut out. How to cut - remember how we make snowflakes on windows - fold the paper several times and cut through the layers of paper at the folds.

Then the stencil is applied to the egg and paint is applied.

Ready-made stencils can be bought, for example, in Indian stores - ask there for stencils for painting palms with henna, you will just get a small and elegant pattern with flowers and herbs.

Painting eggs with acrylics

You can also paint eggs with acrylic paints (such sets are sold in many stationery departments). It is better not to eat such eggs (after all, this is not food paint), but to store them for beauty (to be stored for a long time, boil in a very strong saline solution for 30 minutes).
