Choosing green oolong tea

In stores, you can find two varieties of green oolong:

  • Chinese has a soft creamy aftertaste;
  • Taiwanese sweeter, its aroma can be described as a pronounced milky.

To purchase quality tea, feel free to carefully check the offered item. To do this, pay attention to appearance. Leaves should be rolled into small balls. Fresh tea leaves are slightly shiny. Pay attention to the aroma of tea. In fresh leaves, it is strong and deep.

Another one distinguishing feature quality oolong - uniformity. Any impurities are excluded, otherwise you have a poor quality product. The color of a good oolong is green.

Store milk oolong in an airtight porcelain container. It should be placed as far as possible separate from other types of tea.

How to brew milk oolong?

There is an opinion that milk oolong gets its taste due to the fact that tea leaves long time are soaked in milk. This is just another myth. Traditionally, during drying, the craftsmen process the leaves with a milk extract. However, there is another more hard way. Its principle is to flavor the tea bush itself. The roots of the plant are watered for a long period instant milk. The bushes themselves are treated with a solution of sugar cane.

To brew Thai green milk tea, you need to prepare porcelain or earthenware. A container made from a different material can greatly distort the taste. For additional protection against foreign odors, the dishes can be doused with boiling water.

Oolong teas require more infusion than other types of tea. For a standard serving of 200 ml, we take 6 gr. tea leaves. We pour the tea leaves into an already warmed-up kettle and give it a few minutes for it to “wake up”. Fill with boiled water, cooled to 80ºС, and leave for about three minutes.

Thai milky green tea is best drunk without sugar and without other sweets. They will spoil its natural taste.

  • the same leaves brewed in a cup or gaiwan can be used no more than twice;
  • the more tea leaves we add, the less time it takes to brew tea;
  • if we drain the tea immediately, then the number of times we can use the tea leaves increases;

in more hot water leaves brew faster.
