Anyone who has a household has no problems with this. I gave it to the animals, and everything was in order. And those who don’t have a farm, what should they do? It’s just that since childhood, I was taught that bread should not be thrown away. And now we don’t eat much bread.

In general, if you have half a loaf left, then you can already think about how to fry sweet croutons from the loaf with egg and milk. If you are not yet familiar with this dessert dish, then I will tell you how to prepare it.

How to fry sweet croutons from a loaf with egg and milk

For this we need:

  • loaf or white bread (ours is 315 grams)
  • milk 150 ml.
  • 2 homemade chicken eggs
  • sugar - 3 tablespoons

It is advisable to take bread that is not fresh. It then cuts better and will better absorb the milk and egg. We had leftover loaves weighing 315 grams, which were stored in the refrigerator. We didn’t cut the edges, our children just love the edges, and have been calling them “rocking chairs” since kindergarten because of their rounded shape.

I just wanted to make sweet croutons for a long time, especially since children love them. Cut the loaf into even pieces about 1.5 cm thick. Of course, you can make it thinner, but then, if you soak it thoroughly in a mixture of milk and egg, it may break. And you can't make beautiful croutons.

Now we prepare our milk, in which we will soak the loaf. For clarity, I took a kitchen scale. Less than a month has passed since we bought them in China. So they came, and now they are good helpers in our kitchen. First, beat in two homemade chicken eggs. To do this, it is advisable to take a wider bowl to make it more convenient to soak the loaf.

As you can see in the photo, the eggs weigh 108 grams. Add boiled milk, in an amount of about 150 grams, we got a little more. We also have country milk, we love everything homemade. And our last ingredient is sugar. We add three tablespoons of it, it turns out 86 grams.

Don't be afraid if you think it will be sweet. The results are very tasty croutons. We need to mix it all up. But we will mix it with a fork, and only with our hands. We don't need to beat eggs like we would for a cake. Calmly break the eggs with a fork until the sugar is completely dissolved; it took me about 3 minutes.

When you have beaten the eggs and milk, add the sliced ​​bread. Place the frying pan on the stove to heat up. We will fry only in butter; in extreme cases, we can use margarine. Such croutons cannot be fried in vegetable oil; it will ruin the entire dessert.

The bread should sit in the milk for at least one minute. You should dip it in milk on both sides. Then put it on a heated frying pan. It’s better to fry over low heat, so they’ll cook better and won’t burn. We fried one side of the crouton for about 2 - 3 minutes, then turned it over.

As you can see in the photo, while the croutons are frying, we soak the rest of the loaf. And if you think we took a lot of milk, then pay attention to the photo at the top right. All the milk was absorbed into our loaf. True, while the first batch of sweet croutons was being fried, I moved the bottom crouton in the bowl up, and so on until all the croutons had been soaked in sweet milk twice, for uniform soaking.

If this is not done, the top croutons will be dry, and the bottom ones will disintegrate from moisture. On the next batch of croutons we put butter again, since even if you put more butter the first time, the bread will absorb it.

And here is our dinner for the children. They were very happy when they learned that dad would make sweet croutons. What I love about this dessert, and what I think is a delicious dessert, is that all the ingredients are affordable. I think milk can be found in every refrigerator, as well as butter and sugar. And where would we be without eggs, everyone has them.

But as I wrote before, our children love white bread. Sometimes we take one loaf, and we can eat it for 3-4 days, or even more. Our children only love fresh bread, that’s why the loaf remains.
