Beautiful eggs in shell. How to dye eggs in onion skins

Coloring Easter eggs onion skins- one of the oldest and simplest methods. Except simple coloring, such eggs can be further decorated by applying a beautiful floral design. Of course, this will take time, but the result is worth it - with the help of simple manipulations an ordinary colored egg turns into a real one Easter souvenir- mysterious colors. Here I will also talk about what natural dyes, other than onion skins, can be used for coloring. I also have advice for those who have absolutely no time to do this - a modern and simplified way of decorating Easter eggs using thermal film.

Easter recipes:

  • How to cook
  • How to bake a real one
  • How to bake simple
  • grains and seeds

You will need:

  • raw eggs
  • onion peel
  • plant leaves
  • nylon stocking
  • threads

Natural dyes for Easter eggs:

Red-brown the color comes from onion peels - pour the eggs along with the peels cold water and cook for 10-15 minutes. Remove from the broth and fill with cold water. For a brighter color, you can cool it in the broth.
Green color can be obtained using spinach (fresh or frozen) - chop the spinach with a knife, add cold water along with the eggs, cook for 30 minutes, leave in the broth until cool, or overnight.
Blue We get the color using red cabbage - for 1 liter of water, take 2 small heads of red cabbage and 6 tablespoons of 9% vinegar. Finely chop the cabbage and add hot water, add vinegar. Immerse boiled eggs in this mixture and leave for a couple of hours. To obtain a deeper color, it is better to leave the eggs overnight.
Rich blue The color comes from blueberries - just boil the eggs in a rich blueberry broth.
Yellow- for 1 liter of water 3 tbsp. turmeric powder - cook for 30 minutes, cool in the broth.

To make the pattern on the eggs beautiful, use small leaves with an uneven edge, you can use parsley or dill.

In addition to plant leaves, you can use flowers, not only “flat” ones - violets or lilacs, but also voluminous ones - shaggy chrysanthemums, daisies.
Eggs can be wrapped with thread or lace to create beautiful stripes and curls.
Eggs look great wrapped before boiling in the plastic mesh in which fruit is sold.
You can cover the eggs with rice - dip the egg in water, and then immediately into a plate with dry rice - roll it properly, the grains will stick, then tie it with a stocking or gauze so that the rice grains hold tightly, and cook in onion broth. You can also get a pattern using peas - you get large dots.
A very interesting pattern is produced by pitted olives, cut into rings.
Boil a couple of dozen in onion skins quail eggs, together with chicken eggs they will look very touching.

The process of coloring eggs with onion peels:

Cut the nylon stocking into squares (10x10) so that the egg fits into it. Moisten the leaf with water and stick it to the shell raw egg front side. Straighten the edges. Wrap the egg and leaf tightly around the stocking and tie with thread. Trim off the excess stocking. Prepare all the eggs for painting in the same way.

Place 2-3 handfuls of onion peels on the bottom of the pan. Place eggs on top. Cover the eggs with husks (2-3 handfuls). The more husk, the darker the color of the finished painted egg. Fill everything with cold water, put the pan on the fire and bring the contents to a boil. Boil the eggs for 10-15 minutes, then remove them from the pan with a spoon, place them in a bowl and cover with cold water. Cut and remove the stocking and grass from the egg. Dry the eggs with a towel and wipe with a cotton pad lightly dipped in vegetable oil - this will give them shine.

The simplest modern way decorating Easter eggs - put thermal film on them. The main thing is not to make a mistake with the size of the egg, because... very much big egg the film will not fit, but on a small one it will collect around the edges. Cut the film along the cut line, put it on boiled egg , place the egg in a spoon and lower it into boiling water. As soon as the film is tightly wrapped around the egg, remove it. Ready!

In my opinion, this method only has two drawbacks– does not develop imagination at all, kills the creative component of the important pre-Easter event, and the egg is then very difficult to peel. However, it is really simple, fast and harmless.
Advice: do not use thermal film with the image of the face of the Savior, the Virgin Mary or saints, because in a couple of days it will all go into the trash along with the shell. Treat sacred images with reverence and choose thermal film with floral, floral or traditional Russian patterns.

Painted eggs among bearers of faith in Christ they have always served as a symbol of the Resurrection of Jesus, and with it purification in the name of the new better life. Giving to each other easter eggs, Christians profess belief in the Resurrection from the dead. If the Resurrection of Christ had not occurred, then, as the Apostle Paul teaches, the new faith would have no foundation and value, it would have been in vain. The Orthodox symbolism of the Easter egg has its roots in thousand-year traditions religions of many peoples of the world. At the same time, in Orthodoxy it receives a significant semantic addition: Easter egg - This a symbol of bodily re-creation in Christ, a symbol of the jubilant joy of the Resurrection from the dead, the victory of Life over death.

Happy Easter! Christ is risen! Truly risen!

Brief recipe.

You will need:

  • raw eggs
  • onion peel
  • plant leaves
  • nylon stocking
  • threads

Moisten the leaf with water and stick it to the shell with the front side. Straighten the edges. Cut the nylon stocking into squares (10x10) so that the egg fits into it. Wrap the stocking tightly around the egg and tie it with thread. Dry the eggs with a towel and wipe with a cotton pad lightly dipped in vegetable oil. This will give them shine.

Multi-colored eggs decorated in various ways, are an indispensable attribute of the Easter holiday. According to the ancient beliefs of Orthodox people, the yolk is a symbolic symbol of the spring sun, and the egg itself is a miraculous rebirth to life. Traditionally, the dyeing process is carried out on Maundy Thursday on the eve of the holiday.

For this, various dyes are used (acrylic, food and even gouache). However, eggs that are dyed with them often get dirty on your fingers when you start peeling them. In addition, after a few hours the dye begins to penetrate under the shell, staining the protein and saturating it with harmful chemicals, located in the paint. Such an egg can serve as a source allergic reaction. How to avoid this and color eggs so that they are not only beautiful, but also harmless?

The first way is to use various thermal stickers and other decoration kits that can be bought at the market or in a store. The only negative is that this method requires some costs.

The second option is to paint the shell with an environmentally friendly and absolutely affordable material, which was extremely popular with our great-grandmothers. We are talking about onion skins, which we usually peel off from onions and throw away. Eggs painted with it turn out from light red to dark brown. It all depends on the type of onion, the amount of peeling and cooking time.

Do-it-yourself dyes: how to prepare a decoction of onion peels and paint eggs for Easter

  1. To prevent the eggs from spreading and leaking when lowered into boiling water, remove them from the refrigerator about an hour before working so that they warm slightly to room temperature. Or soak them in warm water for a few minutes.
  2. Wash the eggs with warm soapy water so that they are free of dirt and greasy deposits that prevent the coloring pigments from penetrating the shell. This stage cannot be ignored, otherwise the “paint” may lie unevenly and unsightly.
  3. We prepare in advance onion peel decoction: 5 tablespoons of onion peel (from about 6-7 large onions) pour 500 g. water (half-liter jar), bring to a boil over low heat, cook for 5 minutes and leave for 30-60 minutes. The more onion peels, the richer the broth and the darker the egg shells. It is worth noting that onion peels are an excellent dye, so you will have to allocate a special saucepan for boiling Easter eggs in onion peels.
  4. Dip several prepared eggs into the broth so that they are well submerged and cook after boiling for 10 minutes.
  5. Then take out the eggs and cool with cold water.
  6. To make the eggs shine beautifully, you can lightly grease them with vegetable oil.

How to decorate eggs colored with onion skins?

  1. Take a leaf of parsley, dill, celery, carrot shoot or other herb as a stencil and place it on top of the egg, carefully spreading it out. Secure the leaf on top by tightly covering the egg with a piece of unnecessary nylon stocking or synthetic thin tights. Tie tightly and then cook in onion skins for 10 minutes. Once cooled, remove the stocking with the leaf and admire the resulting pale yellow pattern on the brown shell.
  2. Cover a raw egg with strips of tape parallel to each other or diagonally, and then cook it in onion skins. Once you remove the tape, the egg will have a pattern of white stripes on a dark brown background. You can make thin stripes using rubber bands that you wrap around the egg.
  3. Wet raw eggs and roll them in rice or wheat cereal, wrap it tightly with a stocking. After you boil these eggs in onion skins, they will turn out to be a funny speck.
  4. After coloring and cooling the egg, dip one of its ends into melted wax (paraffin) or thick flour paste, and then lower it into a box with any cereal or small colored beads. You can lay out cereals or beads on a paraffin base in the form of a specific pattern.

Coloring eggs with onion skins is quite easy and simple, and decorating them is a whole creative process. Even preschoolers can participate in it with pleasure. Give free rein to your imagination and surprise your family and friends at the festive table!

They are the most striking symbols of Easter, very familiar to us since childhood. And I think that many of you have memories from that time about how, before this bright holiday, family and friends gathered at one table and began such an interesting and exciting activity as painting eggs for Easter.

Yes, we, Soviet schoolchildren, were not particularly interested in why we were doing this, and adults did not particularly dwell on this topic, it was not that time. Children don’t care what nationality or religion the friend sitting next to them is. We were simply interested in the process from a scientific and creative point of view.

Remembering those carefree days, I would like to remember the ways in which we painted eggs. It is clear that no artificial or food coloring it wasn’t for sale back then, so the simplest and accessible method There was boiling eggs in onion skins.

But the simplicity of the method does not mean that the result was ordinary. No. Sometimes the result was real works of art, which were placed on a shelf and stored almost until next Easter.

I suggest you familiarize yourself with a small master class on turning painting eggs in onion peels into a fascinating creative process that both adults and children will definitely enjoy.

How to paint eggs so that they are even and do not crack

Let's start with the basic rules that will allow you to color your eggs evenly and beautifully. The most important thing is to avoid cracking the eggs, otherwise you will have to start all over again.

1. The process begins with preparing the solution for staining. To do this, take a pan and fill it halfway with onion peels. It is not necessary to follow any strict norms and portions and count grams of husks per liter of water. A pan half filled with husks guarantees a deep, rich color.

But it is advisable to choose a pan that is not deep, but wide, so that the eggs in it do not touch each other and do not leave marks on each other

Fill the pan with water to within 3-4 centimeters of the edge and place on high heat.

2. Wait until the water boils and boil for another 10 minutes. After this, remove the pan from the heat and put it on the balcony so that the solution cools and infuses.

3. While the solution cools, prepare the eggs. They need to be washed thoroughly with a sponge and soap. Egg shells are a porous material and in order for the color to apply evenly, you need to wash them responsibly; simply rinsing them with water is not enough. Well, I think there is no need to remind you that only white eggs should be used for painting.

4. Put the cooled solution back on the fire, bring to a boil, add salt at the rate of 1 tablespoon of salt per 1 liter of water and reduce the heat to low. Salt will protect the shell from cracking. Now, using a tablespoon, carefully lower the eggs into the solution, trying not to let them touch each other, and cook them for 10 minutes. That's it.

If the eggs completely float when lowered into the water, throw them away immediately; they are already spoiled. Fresh egg must sink or swim without surfacing

Having taken the egg out of the pan with the husk, you need to thoroughly wipe it with a towel, and then grease it with vegetable oil to add beauty and shine.

The onion solution can be used several times over a couple of days. But you need to store it in the refrigerator. The solution itself can be filtered, or you can leave it with the husk, this does not affect the result

Well, now let's move on to ways to decorate eggs with a pattern.

Painting eggs with onion peels with a beautiful pattern

Drawings on eggs painted with onion skins can be made using stencils. You can use available materials as stencils: leaves, cereals, elastic bands, braid and even olives. In general, everything here is limited only by your imagination.

You just need to take the stencil, attach it tightly to the shell and tightly wrap the egg with nylon (old tights are perfect), securing it at the edges. While in the solution, nylon will not prevent the dye from penetrating into the shell, but a tightly pressed stencil will. And on the painted egg there will be a light area with the outline of the stencil. This is the drawing.

Rice shell pattern

For example, you can wet an egg and roll it in a bowl of rice to help the grain stick.

Then wrap the egg in nylon and spread the rice evenly with your hands. In this form, place the egg in the pan.

And this is what it looks like after painting:

If you use long grain rice, the strips will be longer. If it’s buckwheat, you’ll get round specks; if it’s millet, you’ll get smaller specks.

Stencil for painting from leaves

To leave a pattern in the form of leaves and twigs on the shell, you can use any greenery found in the house: leaves, blades of grass, dill, etc.

Just soak a blade of grass in water and carefully apply it to the egg.

Then we also wrap the egg in nylon and place it in a pan with onion skins.

The result will be very cute and colorful.

With dill you get this picture:

To obtain patterns in the form of stripes, circles or any intricate shapes, ordinary tape or adhesive tape is ideal, which must be cut to the desired shape and glued to the shell. Be sure to wrap it in nylon so that the tape does not come off

You can also use regular rubber bands for money.

Or pay attention to the eggs in the photo below, decorated with rings. The rings were made from olives cut into circles.

So for decoration you can use anything at all that can be attached and fixed!

Marbling the shell

Now let's move on to my favorite type of coloring - giving the shell marble pattern. The eggs turn out very beautiful, despite the fact that the technique is not at all complicated.

You just need to apply a little on the egg in a few random places. vegetable oil, then wet it with water and apply onion peels.

In this case, you do not need to try to ensure that the husk covers the egg completely, or that it lies strictly in one layer. No, the more chaotic, the more interesting the result

And again we tightly wrap the egg in nylon to fix the structure and send it to the pan to paint.

The result is always unexpected and interesting. Be sure to try it!

How to paint eggs in onion skins with brilliant green

And finally, the most incredible color that can be made using onion peels and ordinary brilliant green.

Almost like faberge eggs at home!

The advantage of this method is that you do not need to pre-prepare the onion broth.

The coloring looks like this:

1. Take a piece of gauze measuring 15x15 cm (or a regular bandage) and generously sprinkle finely chopped husks on it. Dip a clean, washed egg into water and place it on a bed of husks. Sprinkle more husks on top.

2. We collect the gauze in a bag and, if necessary, add more husks. There must be a lot of it so that the egg is completely lost in it.

3. Roll the gauze tightly and secure it with thread.

4. Place the eggs in a saucepan with cold salted water and put them on high heat. When the water boils, pour brilliant green into the pan at the rate of 1 bottle of brilliant green (10 ml) per 1 liter of water.

Take an old pan that you don’t mind. It will be almost impossible to wash it off

And continue to cook the eggs over medium heat for 10 minutes.

5. Then we take out the eggs and cut off the gauze from them (use rubber gloves, otherwise you won’t be able to wash yourself off later). Cool the eggs in cold water, wipe dry and apply a little vegetable oil for shine. Ready.

Here they are interesting options I wanted to prepare you today for coloring eggs for Easter. And I hope you will appreciate the decorating possibilities that ordinary onion skins provide.

Easter is bright holiday and it is very valuable and important to prepare for it in the circle of your beloved family during an exciting activity.

That's all for today, thank you for your attention.

Dyeing eggs for Easter is an integral ritual of one of the main Christian holidays, symbolizing the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. This holiday is beautiful and solemn, with established centuries-old traditions. In addition to its deep religious meaning, Easter is associated with the purification of the soul and home, with delicious Easter cakes and Easter dishes.

The egg is rightfully considered a symbol of the origin of life, and the Easter colored egg means the resurrection from the dead and eternal life. It turns out that painted eggs were found in Egyptian and Sumerian tombs, which were built back in the 3rd millennium BC. e. It’s hard to imagine how many years such a tradition has existed.

Orthodox Christians paint eggs on Holy Week on Maundy Thursday or Red Saturday. In 2019, these are April 26 and 28, respectively. Painted eggs are blessed in church during a festive service, and the first meal after Lent begins with eggs.

Painting eggs for Easter with your own hands has become not only a family activity, but also a kind of competition to see whose colors are the most beautiful. And there are a great many ways to paint eggs. You can, of course, paint eggs for Easter with paints, but these are still harmful chemicals, and food paints are not always on sale. I offer you natural ways to color eggs at home.

Dyeing eggs with onion peels is a traditional method.

This is my favorite and most reliable way egg coloring. With this method, the eggs always turn out to be a beautiful color. I start preparing onion peels a few months before Easter - I collect them in a separate bag. In order for the color of the eggs to be rich, there must be a lot of onion peels.

Pour the onion skins into a saucepan and fill with cold water. Place on the stove and bring to a boil.

Use a worse pan because the husks will stain the sides of the pan so that it will be difficult to clean.

Pour the eggs in a separate bowl with cold water and leave for 10 minutes.

At this time, the water with onion skins boils; turn down the heat so that the eggs do not crack. Add 1 tablespoon of salt to the pan and carefully lower the eggs one at a time. Cook over low heat for 15 minutes.

If you want a more intense color, remove the pan from the heat and leave the eggs in this solution for a while.

After removing from the pan, let the eggs cool slightly and rub with sunflower oil using a paper napkin to make them shine.

Now the eggs are “sparkling” with paint, you can put them in a basket and take them to church to be blessed. I try to bless eggs every Easter, and then treat them to my family, friends and neighbors.

How to paint eggs in onion skins with a pattern

If in the first recipe you could use any eggs - white or brown, then when painting with onion skins with a pattern, white eggs are suitable.

To decorate the eggs, we prepare plant leaves in advance. Before Easter there are not always fresh leaves, because this holiday can also take place in March, when nature is still sleeping. Therefore, you can use fresh herbs from the store - parsley, basil, dill, mint or lemon balm.

Birch leaves look beautiful. You can place several branches in a vase with water in advance, and when the leaves bloom, use a few to decorate Easter eggs.

Lace and woolen threads are also suitable for coloring patterned eggs.

You will also need to prepare clean old stockings, tights or gauze in advance. You will also need threads.

So, let's paint the eggs.

Pour cold water over the onion skins and bring to a boil.

We wash the eggs, dry them with a paper towel and wipe each egg with a cloth and vinegar.

Place a leaf or other decor on the egg, press it tightly and wrap the egg in a piece of stocking fabric or gauze.

To make the leaf stick more tightly to the egg, you can moisten it a little with water.

We tie the nylon or gauze fabric with thread.

You can paint eggs beautifully and originally with lace and onion skins. It's simple - cut the lace to the required length and wrap it around the egg. We tie the ends with thread and cut off all excess.

You can also decorate the egg with woolen threads. Just randomly wrap the egg with thread.

To prevent the eggs from cracking, add 1 tbsp to the broth. l. salt. Carefully lower the eggs into the broth with onion skins and cook for 10-15 minutes. Then carefully immerse the eggs in cold water.

Remove the decor from the cooled eggs and wipe the eggs with vegetable oil.

Marble eggs with greenery

But this method is my favorite. The eggs turn out extraordinarily beautiful, with marble marks. I’ll share one secret of this method - the more we chop the onion peel, the more beautiful the pattern will be. You can even try grinding the husks in a coffee grinder. I like to chop the husks using scissors.

To ensure that the peels stick well to the eggs, wet them with water, then roll each egg in the onion peels. Place a little more husk in a piece of gauze or stocking, place the egg inside and wrap it around it. Tie the ends with thread. Place it in a saucepan and add 1 tsp. salt. About 5 minutes after boiling, pour in 2 tsp. greens and cook for another 5 minutes. Then rinse the eggs with cold water and remove the cheesecloth and remove the skins. Rub the eggs with sunflower oil.

Beautiful marble eggs ready!

How to color eggs with onion skins and rice

Another simple and wonderful option for coloring eggs using natural methods. The grains of rice stick to the eggs and the result is a pattern in the form of droplets. This method is very simple, try it. In addition to rice, you can also use peas.

Pour grains of rice or peas into a stocking, place an egg there, and use your fingers to distribute the grain around the entire circumference of the egg. We tie the fabric and lower the eggs into the prepared broth with onion peels. Cook for 10 minutes, wash the eggs under running water cold water and free from stocking or gauze and grains. After the eggs have cooled a little, rub them with vegetable oil.

Coloring eggs with natural dyes

I have already written that I am fundamentally against chemicals and dyeing eggs with paints. Yes, it’s beautiful and brighter, but health is more important. Moreover, there is a good replacement in the form of natural and harmless dyes made from natural ingredients. Of course, these are all kinds of juices - beet juice, blueberry juice, red cabbage juice, spinach juice and others. From the juice of cranberries, raspberries and beets you will get pink, from blueberry, pomegranate or black currant juice - purple, and if you want to get blue or cyan, then use red cabbage juice. Saturated yellow turmeric gives, and black tea or coffee will give you brown shades. By boiling the bark and branches of the cherry, you will get reddish-crimson eggs. I want to warn you that it doesn’t always work out bright colors in this way. To get a brighter color, after boiling the eggs, you need to keep them in the broth for at least another 4 hours, or better yet, leave them overnight.

Coloring eggs with beets

If you want to get pink eggs, this method of coloring is suitable. beet juice. With egg coloring in a natural way You need to tinker a little more than with regular paints, but if you care about your health, then this work will pay off handsomely.

The beets need to be prepared in such a way that more juice is obtained. To do this, grate the beets, add water and cook for 5-7 minutes. You can cook eggs in the same broth. Then we rub the beets through a strainer, we get rich burgundy juice. Pour this juice into the eggs in a separate bowl, add 1 tbsp. l. vinegar and leave for 4-8 hours.

Coloring eggs with red cabbage juice

Red cabbage will give eggs blue.

The painting method is similar to the previous one. Cut the cabbage into large pieces, add water, cook for 5-7 minutes along with the eggs, strain the hot broth into a separate bowl. Add 1 tbsp there. l. vinegar and keep the eggs in this broth for 4-8 hours.

How to dye eggs with turmeric

Turmeric produces perhaps the most intense color of all natural dyes. The eggs turn out beautiful, bright yellow.

For this coloring, pour a bag of turmeric (15 g) into boiling water, stir and add 1 tsp. salt. Place eggs in this solution and cook for about 10 minutes. To make the paint brighter, leave the eggs in this solution for several hours. For shine, rub with sunflower oil.

Coloring eggs with coffee or tea

I want to warn you right away that with the help of coffee or tea the result is not very rich, but tender. beige color eggs

Can be used both natural and instant coffee or black tea. For coloring, prepare a solution - add 4-5 tbsp to boiling water. l. coffee per 0.5 liters of water. If you use tea, you will also need 4-5 tbsp. l. black tea for brewing. Cook for 5 minutes, add 1 tsp. salt and lower the eggs. Cook for another 7 minutes. And as always for natural dyes, it is advisable to keep it in the solution longer, at least 5 hours.

How to color eggs with blueberry juice

The method of coloring blueberries is similar to the previous ones. The eggs come out a beautiful purple color.

For 1 liter of water you will need 2.5-3 cups of frozen blueberries. The berries need to be cooked a little (5 minutes), add 1 tsp. salt and lower the eggs. After cooking, you can rub the blueberries through a strainer to get pure juice without berries. But I don’t bother, I just boil eggs with berries. Cook for another 3-4 minutes, pour in 1 tbsp. l. vinegar to fix the color. You can leave the eggs in the pan overnight.

Decoupage Easter eggs

I learned about this method of decorating eggs quite recently, a couple of years ago, and it has become my favorite. After all, there are now a lot of napkins with a variety of beautiful designs in our stores, you need to choose the brightest ones, and then you will get very beautiful and original eggs.

  1. Napkins for decoupage should be chosen with a small pattern to fit on the egg.
  2. We select white eggs for decoupage.
  3. It is better to choose napkins on a white background, then you won’t have to carefully cut out the design with scissors.
  4. Most good way gluing napkins - using egg white.

To get beautiful and intact Easter eggs, you need to remember 7 basic rules:

  1. Before boiling eggs, you need to remove them from the refrigerator a few hours before. Eggs shouldn't be cold!
  2. You need to cook the eggs over low heat, avoiding cracking.
  3. To prevent the eggs from bursting, you need to add 1 tbsp to the water with the eggs. l. salt.
  4. To fix the pigment in the paint, pour 1 tsp into the coloring solution. vinegar, the paint will become brighter.
  5. If you want more rich color when coloring eggs natural dyes, leave the eggs in the broth overnight.
  6. Gently dry the colored eggs with a paper towel.
  7. For shine and beauty, rub the cooled eggs with sunflower oil.

I wish you beautiful and have a delicious holiday. After all, Easter personifies the resurrection of life, nature, and bright feelings. Let this light come to every home and fill hearts with joy.

1. Choose white eggs, so they will turn out a more saturated color.

2. Take the eggs out of the refrigerator 3-4 hours before boiling, and to prevent cracks during cooking, add a tablespoon of salt to the water.

3. To ensure uniform coloring, wash the eggs under running water and lightly wipe the shell with a sponge.

4. Add a glossy effect to the colored egg with a cotton pad previously soaked in vegetable oil.

5. Collect onion peels in advance. The more husk, the brighter the colors will be.

6. If you are worried that the color will not last, then wipe the colored egg vinegar solution.
