Description

Once, my daughter, having come from the kindergarten, was enthusiastically talking about the unusually tasty dish that was given for an afternoon snack.

When, as usual, I asked what they were feeding today, the answer left me in amazement. Potatoes with jam !!! Like this? - I thought, I have never tasted such exotic and never even heard!

But in our kindergarten they prepared something so tasty and sweet that the child ate every crumb, although it is far from always possible to please its taste. I asked if potatoes could be sweet, but my daughter stubbornly insisted on her version. So it remained a culinary mystery. A couple of years have passed since then, we moved from the younger group to the older one, and now I again remembered the mysterious kindergarten "know-how". When asked if they were given potatoes with jam, the child replied that they never gave them any more. And I really wanted to reproduce the amazing delicacy at home. Through questioning, it was possible to clarify some details about the mysterious dish. It was cut into rectangles, like an omelet; white as a casserole, and sweet ... What if it's ... very similar to ... a semolina casserole!

Previously, I have never cooked semolina casseroles, only cottage cheese, in which a little semolina was added. And now I decided to make a casserole completely from semolina. Well, what will happen? ..

Ingredients:

  • 1 liter of milk;
  • 1 glass of semolina;
  • 2 eggs;
  • 4 tablespoons of sugar;
  • A pinch of salt;
  • 2 tablespoons of butter;
  • 1 bag of vanilla sugar;
  • And jam for serving!

Instructions:

Let's cook thick semolina porridge - the basis for the casserole (and if there is yesterday's semolina - great!). Pour semolina and 1 spoonful of sugar into cold milk and cook, stirring all the time, over low heat. There are recipes in which semolina is poured into boiling milk - I did not do that, it seems to me that there are no lumps, it is better to add it to cold milk. The main thing is not to be distracted - if you forget to stir the porridge for a minute, then lumps will still appear, you have to catch and rub them.

If it seems to you that there is not enough semolina, and the porridge is too liquid, do not rush. When the milk starts to boil, the porridge, as if by magic, will thicken in a moment. When it gets thick and starts gurgling - you're done! Turn it off and put it on a wide plate to cool down quickly. Stir from time to time so that a crust does not form on the surface of the porridge.

When the porridge is a little warm, you can continue. Beat eggs with the remaining 3 tablespoons of sugar until fluffy and pour the beaten mass into the semolina. Put a spoonful of softened butter there, pour in the vanilla sugar, salt and mix thoroughly.

Let's prepare a mold (or a cast-iron pan) by greasing it with butter and sprinkling it, of course, also with semolina (it seems to me that this is more suitable for a semolina casserole than croutons).

We spread the semolina mass into a mold and level it.

We bake in the oven at 180C until the mass stops shaking like jelly, thickens and starts to redden. If you want a brighter blush, add up to 200C for a few minutes.

So the semolina casserole is ready - like the sun! Let it cool in the form so that it does not fall apart when taken out, and then transfer it to the dish using the lid from a large saucepan.

Cut into segments, rectangles or rhombuses, as you like, and serve with berries, jam, sour cream or jam!

White? Yes! Sweet? Exactly! It remains only to spread jam, and there will be that amazing "potato" ... In consistency and appearance, the semolina casserole really looks like mashed potatoes :) But it is much tastier!

Among cereals, semolina is not famous for its benefits, but in comparison with flour products, it wins. That is why caring hostesses prepare so many children's desserts, cakes and pies with semolina.

Classic semolina casserole

Ingredients:

    1 cup semolina

    1 glass of kefir

    100 g butter

    1 cup of sugar

    1 pinch vanilla

How to make a classic semolina casserole:

  1. Before starting the preparation of the casserole, the semolina can be washed, and then pour it with kefir. If the cereal is left to swell from kefir for at least an hour, the casserole will turn out to be much softer.
  2. While the cereal is soaking, you need to melt 100 g of butter in a water bath or in the microwave and beat it with a glass of sugar. You can just mix so that the sugar is partially dissolved.
  3. This mixture is added to kefir with semolina, mix well, pouring in vanillin.
  4. Beat 2 eggs in a separate container, stirring constantly, and gently add them to the dough. The whole mixture should be uniform in consistency, without lumps and sufficiently liquid.
  5. Pour it into a baking dish or frying pan. Sprinkle the container around the edges with the same semolina, so that later the dessert will be easier to separate from the walls.
  6. Bake the casserole for 30-40 minutes. Moreover, the manna will turn out to be more airy if you place it in a preheated oven.
  7. Readiness is carefully checked with a toothpick. But this must be done carefully: the semolina casserole turns out to be crumbly, and when checked it is easy to violate its integrity.

Cooking time - 1 hour.
