How to soak onions before planting? The best recommendations. Secrets of proper washing

Without the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, today it is almost impossible to get a normal harvest of fruits or vegetables even on our six acres. What can we say about agricultural enterprises. Of course, we all know that chemicals remain in the tissues of plants and fruits, and they are not very useful for humans. But there is no way out: either we grow agricultural products for ourselves, or for rats, mice and insects, or nothing grows at all in our fields.

A Necessary Evil - Chemicals

Fertilizers are used in the cultivation of agricultural products. But if at your dacha you can enrich the soil with compost and manure from the nearest farm, then large farms cannot do without organic matter. They have to apply mineral fertilizers containing nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus and other chemicals to the soil. And in order to prevent weeds, harmful insects and all sorts of rodents from ruining the crop in the bud, plants are sprayed with various pesticides: herbicides (from weeds), fungicides (from fungal diseases), insecticides (from insects) and zoocides (from rodents). All these chemicals get into the soil, water, air, and inevitably accumulate in plants, especially such as celery, watermelons, melons, cucumbers, strawberries, potatoes, etc. If the concentration of chemicals of this kind in vegetables or fruits is high enough, you can easily get poisoned. And even scientists do not know for sure about the long-term consequences that may occur after exposure to chemicals on the body. But definitely nothing good can be expected from eating chemically contaminated foods.

In order for as few chemical compounds as possible to enter the body with food, it is best to eat vegetables and fruits from your garden. Here you can be one hundred percent sure that there will be no chemistry in them. But not everyone can afford such a luxury. Alternatively, you can buy products in stores selling so-called "organic" products. The prices in these stores are exorbitant. But recent studies by scientists have shown that not very organic vegetables differ from ordinary ones: according to the results of the analyzes, the level of pesticides in them was 7%, while in ordinary vegetables it was approximately equal to 35%. What to do?

Moidodyr to help us

It turns out that elementary washing helps to significantly reduce the level of harmful substances that can enter our body with fruits and vegetables. Pesticides form a sticky coating on vegetables and fruits, as they must remain on plants as long as possible.

Otherwise, after each rain, a new pollination would have to be carried out. Therefore, washing vegetables and fruits under running water, even without the use of brushes and detergents, can rid the fruits of the lion's share of chemicals. And if you take a soft brush and walk it over freshly bought vegetables and fruits, it will be generally fine.

Some experts advise soaking vegetables and fruits for ten minutes in a weak solution of vinegar (one share of vinegar - four parts of water), or in a saline solution, and then wash them. This is not without meaning, since in such a solution the fruits “soak” and harmful plaque is removed more easily. Pesticide residues are perfectly removed when blanching vegetables.

It is very useful to soak vegetables in cold water if you want to get rid of excess nitrates. With watermelon, however, such a number will not work, but it is quite possible to “neutralize” cucumbers by cutting off their “ass” and leaving them in a pot of water for half an hour or an hour. At the same time, vegetables will acquire the lost turgor, become elastic and more juicy. In the same way, nitrates are removed from greens. If you don’t want to take risks, don’t buy vegetables and fruits that are too early at all: they contain a huge amount of nitrates.

An effective method for removing pesticides is peeling fruits and vegetables. Although the peel of some fruits contains various beneficial substances, their benefits are lost against the background of the possibility of poisoning with pesticides, so it is better to peel the peel. And buy refined vegetable oil. Not only is it more convenient to use when frying, it gets rid of pesticides almost completely during the cleaning process.

Each vegetable is harmful in its own way.

Cabbage accumulates nitrates in the stalk, and its upper leaves are contaminated with pesticides. Therefore, peel the cabbage before cooking, and do not use the stalk.

Carrot nitrate accumulates in the upper, thick part, so it is also cut off.

The peel of a potato should not be cut thinly, as was considered correct by our grandparents, but thickly, since all harmful substances accumulate in it.

You should not eat too large vegetables: cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots - they definitely have more nitrates than the norm, and such vegetables are inferior in taste to their small counterparts.

Fresh greens, especially out of season, are just a warehouse of nitrates. Be sure to soak it in water before eating.

Do you love grapes? Many insects also love it, so the grapes are sprayed with a variety of chemicals. Wash grapes especially carefully. This also applies to plums, and cherries, and cherries. Knowledgeable people always clean peaches and apples. Well, as for everyone's favorite watermelons - you can't guess. The only thing that can be advised: buy watermelons in season. In June-July, watermelons, temptingly reclining on the shelves, are stuffed with so many chemicals that it’s scary to say. And do not take watermelons sold along the roadsides, otherwise, along with the usual nitrates, you will have to taste compounds of lead and other heavy metals.

How to soak carrot seeds before planting?

Some crops germinate very poorly and take a long time, so planting material requires some processing. For example, it is better to soak the seeds of a root crop such as carrots in a specially prepared solution before planting, so that they sprout faster. How to do this will be discussed.

Why soak seeds

In order for the seed of a plant to germinate, the following conditions are required:

  • the presence of water;
  • the presence of oxygen;
  • certain temperature.

The process begins with swelling, that is, attracting water. Under its action, enzymes begin to work, converting the complex substances contained in the seed as reserves into simple ones, available for the nutrition of the embryo.

Then oxygen comes into play and the complex process of building the cells of the future plant begins. The root sprouts first, followed by the bud and stalk. Moreover, all this “magic” can only happen at a certain temperature.

Advice. To saturate the seeds with oxygen, you can place them for a day in a jar of water, where there is a compressor that pumps air into the container.

The seeds of some plants take a long time to germinate. This is due to the presence of a hard-permeable shell in them. It is this problem that forces gardeners to resort to special techniques in order to achieve rapid germination.

What is the best way to soak the seeds

Soaking is a simple and easy seed treatment method that will allow them to sprout much faster. There are several methods that have been tested by gardeners.

Soaking in nutrient solution, which is prepared independently according to several recipes:

  • 1 tsp growth stimulator dissolves in 1 liter of water;
  • 1 tsp wood ash is mixed with 1 liter of water;
  • 20 drops of juice squeezed from aloe leaves are added to 1 liter of water.

carrot seeds

Seeds are poured into a rag bag, which is dipped into the prepared solution. It usually takes a day to soak. Then the bag is removed and the seeds are washed with running water.

Advice. After soaking and washing, it is advisable to put the seeds in the refrigerator for several days. Such an additional technique will increase the percentage of germination.

Soaking in vodka. Dry seeds are placed in a cloth and immersed in a container of vodka for 10 minutes. This time is enough to dissolve the oils that are under the shell and do not allow water to penetrate to the nucleoli. After the seeds are removed and washed well. Treatment with vodka ensures excellent germination in a couple of days.

Each gardener decides for himself whether to soak carrot seeds before planting or whether other processing methods should be used. In any case, all these works are aimed at increasing the number of germinated plants and, accordingly, obtaining a high yield.

As soon as sunny warm weather sets in, residents of cities and towns begin to look forward to the weekend with great impatience. Why? The answer is simple: it's time for picnics and barbecues! Shish kebabs are such a great meat dish that you never get bored or bored. The very word "barbecue" came to us from the Crimean Tatar dialect, where it means "something on a spit." Even ancient people knew the recipe for barbecue from pork, lamb, beef and other meat, fried at the stake. Of course, in different countries of the world barbecue is called and prepared differently. Most importantly, when buying meat in the market or in a supermarket, ask the seller for a license and all the necessary certificates, because poisoning with this product is very dangerous, sometimes it even ends in death. Be carefull!

In post-Soviet countries, barbecue is used to be cooked on skewers and most often from pork meat. In order for it to be tasty and juicy, it must be marinated in advance. How to soak pork skewers? There are a huge number of interesting, complex and not very marinade recipes for cooking meat. I will try to reveal for you the most successful and delicious, in my opinion, recipes for cooking shish kebab and marinade for it.

Recipe number 1. Pork skewers in vinegar

Barbecue is prepared based on a company of 5-6 people. The most tender marinated meat is obtained from the pork collar. Cut the meat into cubes about 5x5x5 cm in size. Peel the onions (you can use regular, white or red) and cut into rings of medium thickness. Then mix thoroughly the meat with onions and seasonings. You can use only salt and pepper, or you can also add a special seasoning for barbecue. Add about 100 grams of 9% vinegar per liter of water. Pour half the water into the meat, mix thoroughly so that it is saturated with the solution everywhere. Add the rest of the water so that it covers the product completely. Put oppression on top. Leave to marinate overnight the night before the picnic. The next day, prick the meat on skewers mixed with onions from the marinade and fry over a fire.

Alternative option. Recipe number 2

The second way to soak pork skewers is to marinate meat in lemon. To do this, wash the product well, cut it into pieces with a children's fist. Also wash the lemons and cut into slices. In a separate bowl, mix coriander, basil, cumin, paprika, ginger, red and black ground pepper, cinnamon, parsley, salt and oil. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly, then add meat and lemons there, close the lid tightly and leave to brew for 8-10 hours. Once every 2-3 hours, everything must be stirred. Marinated meat is strung on skewers, fried for 10 minutes and garnished with lemon slices. Shish kebab "Pikantny" is ready to eat!

Cooking process

If you already know how to soak pork skewers, this is only half the battle. You have to know how to cook it properly. Firewood for barbecue is best taken from oak, birch, linden, aspen or other deciduous trees. In no case do not use coniferous trees for a fire, otherwise you risk getting meat with a distinct aroma and taste of resin. Also, I do not advise using anthracite and coal for ignition, as they will give the barbecue an unpleasant smell and smoke it. Even if the weather is windy and it is very difficult to start a fire, do not add fuel to the fire. Otherwise, the taste of meat will deteriorate once and for all, you will have to throw it away. You need to fry pork on skewers for about 7-10 minutes, turning them around the axis every two minutes, allowing the meat to fry on all sides, but not to burn and remain juicy. You can sprinkle the product with lemon juice, mineral water or beer. And the last thing: before soaking the pork skewers, cut off excess pieces of fat from it so that it is not too greasy, remove possible cartilage and pieces of bones.

Soaking is part of the washing process, which directly affects how clean your laundry will be. And the secrets of proper soaking will help you cope with even the most complex and large wash. So what is the right way to soak clothes?

Washing powder for soaking should be taken two times less than for washing. The duration of soaking should be at least 2 hours at a solution temperature of at least 30 ° C

If you have to wash rough things from cotton and linen fabrics, oily overalls, very dirty linen, then for soaking take strongly alkaline products, such as Soda Ash, Trisodium Phosphate: 2-3 tbsp. spoons of the drug in 10 liters of water. The duration of soaking such things is from 12 to 24 hours at 30-40 ° C.

For soaking, you can use washing powders and pastes with biological additives (enzymes) that help remove protein contaminants. Soak linen in such products should be at a water temperature not higher than 35-40 ° C, and wash - up to 60 ° C, because at a higher temperature the enzymes die.

White and colored clothes are soaked separately.

To ensure that the laundry is well wet, it should not be packed tightly when soaking. It is recommended to stir the linen from time to time, you can wrinkle or rub it.

If the laundry is very dirty, then the soaking water is changed several times. If you need to wash very washed cotton linen, soak it for a day in a solution containing 2-3 tablespoons of detergent for washing cotton fabrics and the same amount of turpentine per 10 liters of water. There is another way: you can soak things in a warm (30-40 ° C) solution of vinegar (1 teaspoon per 1 liter of water).

Excessively long (more than a day) soaking is not only impractical, but also harmful, since the laundry turns sour, acquires a bad smell, which is difficult to remove even with subsequent washing and thorough rinsing.

Soaking is also necessary for things contaminated with protein and starchy substances - blood, pus, milk, eggs, etc.

For heavily soiled laundry, two soaks are done: the first (for 2-4 hours) is done in plain water, softened with a small amount of soda. For the second soak, you can use detergents or prepare a soap-soda solution: 10 liters of water, 5-8 grams of soda and 3-5 grams of 40% soap are taken for 1 kilogram of laundry. First, soda is dissolved in a small amount of hot water and poured into a soaking container, and after 15-20 minutes a separately prepared soap solution is added to the water, then the linen, well wrung out after the first soaking, is placed. Instead of soda, you can use trisodium phosphate, washing powder or ammonia.

Cotton lace, tulle, lace fabrics are soaked for an hour and a half in cold salted water before washing and only after that they are washed in warm water, adding some powder with chemical bleach. They cannot be rubbed and twisted, but can only be squeezed very easily. Then the lace is rinsed in plenty of warm water and lightly starched.

Experienced gardeners during their work on the site accumulate invaluable information regarding the cultivation of a particular crop. Simple tips help improve yields, get a fruit of high quality in taste and presentation. For many, the question of preparing the onion for planting does not cause any associations at all. And only noble gardeners understand that we are talking about the fact that it needs to be soaked.

How many ways to process a vegetable in the spring are there? We will consider the most basic ones - what to do so that shoots appear faster, why and for how long the procedure is performed, how to process and water the seeds to protect flies from worms, and whether it is necessary to do the treatment with such means as Fitosporin before sowing.

Soaking is not a mandatory procedure before planting onion crops, especially if the onion is grown on an industrial scale.

You should not load yourself with the preparation of sevka and in cases of use quality planting material, which grew in healthy soil and was stored in proper conditions.

Since sevok is mainly purchased in wholesale markets, no one can guarantee that it has a healthy microflora. Therefore, the correct procedure for locking seeds helps to protect gardeners from unpleasant surprises. This includes loss of yield, rotting of onions, and contamination of the soil with various diseases and pests.

Before soaking, cut onion to allow the solution to penetrate between the scales and kill pathogens. But you should not get involved in circumcision, making a too large cut, the turnip may rot or not release the feather, you can also clean the seeds from the old husk.

When using planting material of small sizes, processing is too time-consuming, so it is better to secure your future crop at the procurement stage.

If small seeds are purchased, they must be selected at the procurement stage without processing

It is worth giving preference to farms that adhere to growing technology, harvest in dry weather, and have special storage facilities. This eliminates damage or a decrease in the properties of onions in the winter.

It makes no sense to prepare onions using heat treatment or using various solutions if the purpose of growing is to get greenery.

Pros and cons of soaking sevka

Among summer residents, the dispute over the effectiveness of preparing onions for planting by soaking does not subside. Everyone should make a decision for themselves, and you can be based on the advantages and disadvantages of this procedure.

According to the analysis of many years of experience of gardeners, the following are noted pros procedures:

  • activation of the growth process of greens and turnips;
  • disinfection;
  • decay prevention;
  • protection of the soil from pathogenic bacteria that can be carried with the planting set.

The disadvantages of soaking concern improper preparation or temperature violations. Planting material may deteriorate due to improper pruning or non-compliance with the proportions in the manufacture of the solution. Therefore, before using one of the options, you should study the instructions.

How and in what to soak onions before planting

Depending on the solution used, the purpose of the treatment changes, some procedures are multifunctional. Each method has its own advantages and features.

Before processing, planting material must be sorted out. Soft, sluggish and rotting onions need to be disposed of.

How to process in saline

Salt baths are used more often in combination with other procedures. The easiest and most popular way to prepare a seed for planting involves 2 stages of processing: using saline and potassium permanganate.

First, the onion is soaked for 3 hours in a salt bath, which is prepared in the following proportions: in 2 liters of water stir 2 tablespoons ordinary rock (table) salt.

This procedure ensures the rapid growth of the plant, the development of turnips, and protects against the aggressive soil environment. Salt disinfects onions from nematodes and other pathogens.

In potassium permanganate

Potassium permanganate baths are used after salt soaking or as the main seed treatment.

In a bucket of water you need to dilute everything 30-35 g potassium permanganate, mix it thoroughly until the crystals are completely dissolved. After that, immerse the seed in the container and let it stand for a couple of hours.

This method is effective due to the action of potassium permanganate, which copes with many pathogenic bacteria.

soda solution

Many qualities are attributed to baking soda that it does not possess. So, for example, there is an opinion that soda baths help prevent onions from shooting when ripe. This is not true, because the ejection of the arrow mainly depends on the conditions for storing the bow in the winter. Soda will not be able to influence this process and protect it in any way, and it will shoot after processing.

But in heat treatment it can be used. To do this, before planting in the garden, the seeds should be soaked in hot water (no more than 45-50 degrees) with the addition of a small amount of soda ( 10 l teaspoon). This procedure, lasting 10-15 minutes, provides disinfection of planting material.

How to make birch tar treatment

To process the sevka before planting, special broad-spectrum preparations are used. An alternative is a natural material - birch tar. He's fine copes with various pests and pathogenic bacteria, in particular with the onion fly.

The use of a birch product is considered environmentally friendly and safe for human health and soil microflora.

Preparing onions with tar consists of the following steps:

  • drying seedlings on a battery during the day (temperature regime 37-40 degrees);
  • removal of the upper husk from each turnip;
  • top trimming;
  • soaking in solution for 2-4 hours.

The solution is prepared in proportions: per 1 liter of water is taken 1 tablespoon tar. The temperature of the liquid should be in the range of 18-22 degrees. During the procedure, it will be necessary to mix the contents of the container 2-3 times for better impregnation of the seed.

So that the sevok does not float during the soaking procedure, it is recommended to immerse it in the net and lay a brick or other weighting agent on top. But too heavy objects should not be used, they can crush the onions.

What treatment to do to protect against pests

Any disease is easier to prevent than to deal with problems that have arisen as a result of any disease or pest invasion.

The biggest threat to onions is onion fly. Larvae, worms deposited near plants can destroy the entire crop. The processing of planting material before sowing will help to avoid such troubles.

Also, a vegetable can be affected by such pests as a bear, wireworm, Colorado potato beetle.

The easiest and surest way involves soaking the sevka before planting in a tar solution. You can also choose a two-stage treatment with salt and manganese composition.

Among folk remedies, baths with the use of red pepper and liquid laundry soap. Proportions: a bucket of water, a tablespoon of liquid soap, 30 gr. dry red pepper. The duration of the procedure is 1-2 hours.

The most dangerous pest is the onion fly

Watering with specially prepared solutions will help get rid of pests and diseases. Among the effective ways:

  • saline liquid (10 liters of water + 3 tablespoons);
  • tobacco mixture (3 l of hot water + 200 g of tobacco dust), aged for 2 days;
  • infusion on dandelions (10 l of boiling water + 200 g of crushed leaves), leave for 3-4 days;
  • ammonia (2 tablespoons) with water (10 liters).

Spray the soil carefully so as not to harm the plant. Processing should be 1-2 times a week. If the methods turned out to be powerless, it is recommended to resort to the use of special drugs, such as Fitosporin.

Processing should be carried out in the evening in dry weather. The sun's rays destroy chemical compounds, reducing the effectiveness of insect control.

In order to prevent damage to the plant from the invasion of pests, it is recommended to adhere to the following tips:

  • before planting, the soil must be enriched with rotted manure or peat;
  • do not use damaged and affected turnips for planting;
  • the landing site should be changed annually;
  • to form onion beds in close proximity with spicy and strongly aromatic herbs, carrots;
  • after harvesting, it is necessary to dig deep into the soil.

Whatever method of processing is chosen before planting, do not forget about proper care, which also affects the yield and quality of onions. Soaking is just an auxiliary method that promotes rapid growth and disinfection. Without timely irrigation and the introduction of complementary foods, there will be no good harvest.
