Restaurants in Venice: reviews, descriptions and cuisine. The best restaurants in Venice

It is clear that you can enjoy the beauties and views of Venice almost endlessly. But sooner or later you will want to eat. Naturally, all the time in the air, on foot, the sea of impressions. I will tell you where to eat tasty and inexpensive in Venice.

Traveled around Venice and shares his impressions

Venice restaurants on the map

The map shows the cafes and restaurants described in this article. Of course, there are many more of them in Venice, but I noted those that I know where I myself have been and that I am not ashamed to advise.

Snack on the go

by the most economical option there will be the purchase of water or other drinks, bread and other ingredients for sandwiches in the supermarket, where the same sausage and cheese can be immediately cut at your request. Supermarkets also sell ready-made sandwiches, but it is better to warm them up, but this service is not available in the store. And for the price, such a purchase will be more expensive than the sandwich you made.

Fruits and vegetables bought at the market will also diversify your walking diet. And for a while, you can “freeze the worm”.

Supermarkets in Italian are written "Supermercato", but sometimes it is easier to find them by the names of retail chains: "Conad", "Coop", "Punto Simply".

Bright red or green signs, sliding doors are also signs of a supermarket. Large supermarkets can be found in Campo Santa Margherita and Strada Nuova. Markets can be found at the Rialto Bridge, at Campo Santa Margherita and on the promenade of the Cannaregio Canal. They work from early morning until noon.

Trattoria on the bank of one of the canals.

This walk is not only for those who want to have a good time, but also for those who want to find out what the Venetians do in the evenings and where they hide from tourists.

Bars occupy an important place in the life of Italy and every Italian. This is a universal place, a social network of the last century, here in most cases the day of a resident of the Apennine Peninsula begins, and here it ends.

Coffee break

Being in Italy, and even more so, in Venice, and not having a cup of coffee is completely wrong.

Coffee will be served to you in any establishment. For a hot drink, I recommend taking something from pastries, for example, a croissant. They are here, as a rule, with two or three fillings: chocolate and a couple of types of jam.

"Jam" in Italian "marmalata", has nothing to do with marmalade.

You can generally go inside the cafe to start, look at the shop window. Sweet buns, paninas (buns stuffed with cheese, ham, arugula), sweets are presented there, as a rule, in a fair amount.

Coffee, depending on the category of cafe and the place where it is located, varies in price not too much: from 1 euro to 3. Croissants from 2 to 3 euros, pastries - up to 4-5. Paninas are quite satisfying. A cup of coffee with a croissant or panina will keep you going for hours.

Lovers just to drink a cup good coffee I advise the bar Blackjack Bar center: in Campo San Luca, to the right of the H&M store (see map).

If you go from Campo San Bartolomeo along Calle del Lovo (for reference: to the right of the exit from the Rialto Bridge or from the Goldoni monument all the time straight ahead) after five or six minutes of a quiet walk, on your left you will see a coffee shop for tourists, it is called "Pasticceria Ponte del Lovo". It is impossible not to recognize her: the windows are lined with cans and packages of Venetian coffee. A classic interior is visible through the showcases: antique twisted armchairs, round tables, curtains on the windows. Fortunately, although at a more expensive price (3.5-4 euros), you will be offered typical Venetian sweets for coffee. Particularly good "Doge Bread"(“Pane del Doge”), it costs, of course, not cheap, 6-7 euros, but raisins, candied fruits, almonds, baked in shortcrust pastry with honey, and even warmed up before getting to your table, are worth it, to try it at least once.

If somewhere you see that coffee in an institution costs about 50 euro cents, do not take it in any case: you will be served a liquid hot surrogate like a weak instant coffee, and no, even the most wonderful, croissants will save the impression (verified on personal experience).

That's the trouble with tea in Italy. There is no tradition of tea drinking here. You will be offered tea bags. With juices, there is also tension. Drink in Italy only freshly squeezed orange juice. The rest of the juices, such a feeling, are not even known here. Get ready for it.

It's just a sandwich.

Ice cream

The famous Italian ice cream (gelato) is sold in special gelaterias. On the sign it says: Gelateria. True, more often it is not the name that catches the eye, but metal cuvettes covered with glass showcases with multi-colored sweet filling.

Gelateria are usually located on crowded streets, at the exits to the embankments, close to vaporetto stops, on large squares. Prices differ quite a bit between them.

The choice and prices depend on the place where the gelateria is located: the more crowded the area, the higher the price will be. The basis also affects the cost of the purchase: either you buy waffle cone, or a cardboard cup. From experience I can say that the taste of the ice cream itself does not depend on the glass. You can eat a lot of this sweet, the choice is usually large. For some time, you will be distracted from the appetite that has developed.

Where to have breakfast in Venice

Venice only seems to be a round-the-clock holiday. After 10-11 pm the city gradually goes to sleep, only rare restaurants are open until one or two in the morning. In the morning, Venice is cheerful again and ready to receive new guests.

It should be borne in mind that there is only one way to move around the city - on foot, therefore, more time is needed to explore the surroundings. So, you need to get up earlier.

The solution to the breakfast issue partly depends on where you are staying. In hotels, breakfast is usually included in the price. In all other cases, you can use any of the previously listed ways to eat. Markets open early in the morning - fresh fruits and vegetables at all inexpensive price will be on your table. In supermarkets, it is better to buy groceries in the evening (do not run in the morning). It will be much cheaper than going to a cafe.

Venetian cafe in good location and with a good view.

If you still want to go to a cafe, then establishments located on the most important tourist trails will help you out here. These are small cafes, which, for example, are very numerous on Strada Nuova, on Rio Terra Lista di Spagna (the street that goes to the left of the station building), on the way from Piazzale Roma (see the article "Where to stay in Venice") or on Campo Santa Margherita.

Cafes open: from 7 am. By your arrival there will be ready-made pastries: buns, paninas, croissants. Coffee with a couple of croissants and panina with ham will cost you about 10-11 euros.

At 9 o'clock you can already order pasta or something no less serious. You can read more about this and how to recognize such cafes in the "Hot Lunch" section.

Of the establishments that I know myself, I highly recommend the cafe, which is located directly opposite the Domus Civica hostel. The bar at We Crociferi hostel is open from 8:00, where you can also have a hearty breakfast. Breakfast in the courtyard of a medieval monastery, excellent coffee with wonderful pastries, fast service and a warm welcome - in my opinion, an excellent start to the day.

Pizzerias in Venice open at 9-11 am, restaurants much later. But you don't need them yet. Panina and coffee will give you a good boost of energy for hiking in Venice.

hot lunch

You can distract yourself from the approaching hunger for the time being. There will come a time when your body will send you persistent signals demanding total nourishment.

To solve this problem, numerous cafes with a traditional tourist menu are at your service: several types of pasta, several types of pizza, one or two Italian dishes like gnocchi (Italian dumplings served as a separate dish with various sauces) or Milanese cutlets with a side dish , perhaps an addition in the form of a salad, coffee, pastries, beer, wine.

A plate of pasta, coffee and a bun will cost 10-15 euros.

Pasta is a hearty and nutritious thing, besides, sauces give it special taste. In many cafes you will find, for example, pasta with cuttlefish ink, this dish is considered traditional for Venice. Unaccustomed to the color, it scares off a little, but it does not affect the taste and price in any way. A plate of pasta costs 7-8 euros. Gnocchi at the same price.

pizza price varies depending on content: from 7 to 9 euros. It is, of course, not gigantic in such cafes, as in pizzerias, and sometimes they can put canned fish instead of natural tuna. But the dough and tomato paste, sauce and spices will be natural, the pizza will be fresh and hot, and the price will not be the same as in a restaurant.

There is also a wonderful Italian dish on the menu: lasagna. It happens that two, or even three types. 8-10 euros for lasagna It’s not a pity to give away - you will be full for a long time.

You will find many such cafes on the most crowded streets leading from the station or Piazzale Roma into the depths of Venice. That is, where there is a large flow of people, there will be these cafes. You can distinguish them from restaurant-type establishments by simple small tables and a folding panel-rack standing in front of the cafe with a thick A4 sheet attached to it - this is the menu. Or laminated pages can be bound into a book and stacked on that very folding panel.

Pizza is a traditional Italian dish.

Restaurants in Venice

And now it's time to move on to institutions of higher rank - to restaurants. There are also many of them in Venice and they are divided into different types and views: restaurants, osterias, trattorias, rosticeries, taverns and pizzerias.

  • Restaurants- this is clear to everyone.
  • Osteria and trattoria- restaurant-type establishments, but with a more democratic way, with prices lower than restaurant prices, specializing in local or national cuisine. They differ from restaurants in that there is no menu stand in front of the entrance to osteria and trattoria. Barkers often stand in front of restaurants, usually not in front of osterias, trattorias and pizzerias.
  • taverns- These are small establishments with a simple design inside, with almost homemade, rustic cuisine.
  • Rostichcheria- These are fast hot food establishments where you can eat meat and buy a semi-finished product home. I don't think it's necessary to talk about pizzerias.

The main rule for those who come to Venice: do not go to restaurants and other establishments in the San Marco area: from Piazza San Marco to Rialto.

Restaurants here are a dime a dozen, crowds of tourists, establishments are always packed to capacity. And since there is no end to the clientele, then often the owners do not bother themselves too much with caring for the quality of the food on offer. Advertising posters can scream in all directions about the true Venetian cuisine, about the exclusive cooking system, about the chef's secret recipes - do not believe it. Do not believe also those menus that indicate the tourist assortment. This is usually standard set of the three courses is not of the highest quality. And the service will not amaze you with hospitality and helpfulness. Therefore, before the trip, sit on the forums, search the Internet, study the map to determine the direction to the restaurant you are interested in.

Remember that you can always find a good restaurant if you go straight and then a little sideways.

Jokes aside, but it is in the yards and at unexpected turns that you will find quality food, relatively low prices and decent service. I wrote about two restaurants in the very center in an article. It was about "Al Conte Pescaor" and "Taverna Al Remer". Now I will add a few more establishments, the quality of which I am sure, since I myself have been there.

Nice restaurant close to the center

On Campo Santa Margherita there are cafe-restaurants hidden from the crowds of tourists. Finding them is easy: if you go to this square from the church of San Pantalon and go straight all the time, almost to the Scuola Grande dei Carmini, turn left at the Libreria Marco Polo bookstore, you can find a small alley between houses, right side which consists of cafes and restaurants. Go to the second (name "Osteria Ai Carmini Di Biasotto Daniele"). There you will be offered typical Venetian cuisine: polenta (corn porridge) with cuttlefish ink and the cuttlefish itself (within 20-25 euros), a huge plate of spaghetti with seashells (from 18 euros) and much more.

For a light drink, I recommend trying Spritz, a traditional Venetian low alcohol drink- white wine with soda and bitter liquor like Campari. It costs around 2-3 euros per serving. It is quiet and almost deserted here, you will be separated from the noisy square by houses, so you can both relax and talk calmly.

The parallel street, Calle Pazienza, is listed in many directories as the address of this osteria, but it is better to enter from the side I indicated: there are outdoor tables and more space. And it's easier to search.

This is lasagna.

Restaurant with the best view of the lagoon

If you are drawn to romance, and the restaurants near the canals are too crowded and crowded, if you want gourmet cuisine and the most heartfelt service, if you have the time and patience to spare, my advice to you: a long narrow island opposite the main Venice. Stop of the redentore vaporetto. After leaving the vaporetto, turn right and walk along the embankment straight ahead until you turn into a large arch. You will not be able to confuse, she is there alone, inside this passage lies a large boat. Go into the courtyard and follow the signs "Al ristorante". Don't be embarrassed that you went to the repair shops and yacht parking, go straight to the embankment. To the right, at the edge of the brick building, you will see a metal staircase that will lead to the terrace of the restaurant "Al storico da crea". The view from the terrace is measured: almost the entire Venetian lagoon with rare small islands will be in front of your eyes.

Fish restaurant

Fish menu ( I recommend the restaurant "San Pietro": fried fish fillet breaded with spices and baked potatoes, the cost is about 22-27 euros), the best wines, the smile of a charming owner (he doesn’t even mind talking), combined with such a view, will be remembered for a lifetime and will make you come to this restaurant again and again, even though it’s far from getting to it.

The restaurant is open all week except Monday from 10:00 to 17:00 and from 19:00 to 22:00.

Venice Markets

Every morning in the Venetian markets you can buy fresh and cheap vegetables and fruits. There are four main markets in Venice.

The first and main one is the Rialto Market. Rialto consists of two markets: Fish - Pescheria (Pescheria) - and vegetable. They are located next to each other. Finding them is easy: from the Rialto Bridge, you need to go to the square in front of the Church of San Giacomo in Rialto, cross it and go under the colonnade to the Canal Grande embankment. There, go a little more to the left - and you are in the market: first fruits and vegetables, a little further under a stone canopy - fish. They work from 7 am. Fish until 14:00, vegetable - until 17:00. You can get to the Rialto markets by vaporetto number 1, stop "Rialto Mercato".

One of the Venetian markets.

Second Market - on the Cannaregio Canal, next to the Obelisk Bridge. Right to the waterfront (Fondamenta Cannareggio) boats and boats of vegetable merchants moor in the early morning. From 7:00 to 12:00 there is a brisk trade. On foot you will reach the market from the station along the Rio Terra Lista di Spagna (turn left from the station building, do not turn anywhere, go all the way to the Obelisk Bridge - Ponte delle Guglie) or take the vaporetto No. 4.1, 4.2, 5.1, 5.2 to the stop " Google.

Third market open from 7:00 to 12:00 at Campo Santa Margherita. This square can be reached on foot from Piazzale Roma (the path to this square is described in detail in the article), turning at Scuola San Rocco towards Campo San Pantalon, or from Campo San Barnaba (vaporetto No. 1 to the Ca' Rezzonico stop) , crossing the bridge and walking a little along the Rio Terra Canal. By the way, at Campo San Barnaba, on the canal of the same name, a small market with boats and boats also operates daily.

Another market you will find in the Castello area on Via Garibaldi. Vaporetto stop No. 1, 4.1, 4.2 "Arsenale", to the right across two bridges along Slavyanskaya Embankment (Riva degli Schiavoni). Immediately from the second bridge, this street goes to the left, where the market is open from 7:00 to 12:00.

In the markets, you can buy vegetables and herbs that you can cook at home, as well as fruits that you can eat on the go. On the city streets there are many standpipes with clean drinking water where fruits can be washed. The choice here is always huge, and the prices are so low that you can collect more and not count how much you will spend.

Important little things

In conclusion, I will add that Venetian cuisine, unlike other cuisines in Italy, does not indulge in an abundance of dishes. The set of basic recipes here is quite meager: seafood, rice, local types of pasta, liver, beans. This is explained by the historical and geographical isolation of Venice from the mainland of the country, but what they offer is worth trying and evaluating.

How to read restaurant menus

You also need to remember that the restaurant menu consists of several sections:

  • The first - "Antipasti" - has nothing to do with protests against pasta, the word is translated as "snacks".
  • Under the first courses - "I Primi Piatti" - here they mean different types of pasta or risotto for a change.
  • Soups in Italy are not as thick as ours; soups in Italian menus always stand in a separate section.
  • The main courses include meat and fish culinary compositions with side dishes.

So, in a restaurant, carefully read the menu to calculate the strength.

Service charge

And one more thing: in almost all catering establishments, a service column is included in the bill: “Coperto”, or “Servizio”, - which costs from 1 to 4 euros, depending on the category of cafe or restaurant.

The service includes covering the table with a tablecloth or napkin, serving you by waiters. Sometimes you can find out if such an item is included in the bill, but usually it is. And before you place an order, check if this place can wrap half-eaten food with you. This is not practiced everywhere.

That's all. I hope I helped you get your bearings. We will return to the topic of where to eat in Venice. Good luck with your travels and bon appetit.

One of the most popular questions asked of all our guides in every city is:
Where to eat delicious food?

Italians really know a lot about food, but in order to get to the most delicious establishments, you need to know where to go. This is especially true for cities popular with tourists, and today we will tell you where you can have a delicious meal in, perhaps, the most touristic city in Italy - Venice. Why is it the most touristic city? - you ask.

Because during the season there are more tourists in the city than locals! This is the most difficult city in terms of food - you can pay a lot, but the food is not tasty at all.

You won't be able to eat cheaply in Venice.

Venice is the most expensive city in Italy for a tourist, so get ready to pay. Average prices:

  • Snacks: 10-20 euros
  • First meal: 10-20 euros
  • Second courses: 20-40 euros
  • Average bill for two: appetizer + first / second + water / glass of wine - about 100 euros

How to choose a restaurant

How to choose a delicious restaurant in Venice is a whole science, but we definitely recommend that you avoid places where:

  1. There is a person standing on the street who beckons you to go to an institution (delicious places do not need such advertising);
  2. The bill already includes 10-12% tips (in Italy it is not customary to leave a tip, which means that the place is designed for tourists);
  3. As a rule, in Venice, either a beautiful view, or tasty food we are for delicious food!

In Venice, we don’t have an address system familiar to everyone, so we won’t write the address here, in order to find an institution - fill in the name in Google Maps (in Venice, the maps.me navigation application works better), see where the institution is located, it is indicated there phone number, book a table, and all that remains is to find the place you need.

Osteria Antico Giardinetto

The food here is very tasty, but there is no entourage - a family restaurant, only 2.5 people work here. The owner himself is Italian - the chef, he has an assistant in the kitchen, the hostess, his wife, helps in the hall - he will meet and serve you at the table. An indisputable plus is that his wife is from Russia, so there will be no problems with the order. Say hello to Larisa from Maxim - and then, even when there are no places, they can still find a place for you, they can also treat homemade limoncello at the end of dinner 😊

  • Working hours: all days of the week except Mon, from 18.30 to 22.30. This place is closed for lunch!
  • Advice: be sure to book a table, you can only call during the opening hours of the restaurant, without a reservation come by 18.30, say hello to Larisa, then you will definitely find a table
  • Official site: www.anticogiardinetto.it
  • What to order: the menu is small - only 20 dishes, everything is delicious - both meat and fish. Specialty of the house- snack from raw fish (highly recommend). Also among the appetizers are some of the most delicious Venetian-style sardines (they are rarely made with red onions, which gives the dish a softer and more delicate taste). If you take meat, I advise you to choose tagliata with green pepper. Be sure to leave room for dessert - and homemade recipes.

Taverna Al Remer

This institution is not easy to find, easy to lose, hard to forget.

It is really hidden from tourists, although they are there. Therefore, if on the way to it you have thoughts that you are going somewhere wrong, most likely this means that you are on the right way! There is some evidence that once there was a brothel in this place (be sure to pay attention to the price list in the toilet), and now it is a good restaurant where the food is decent, and most importantly, an amazing Venetian atmosphere.

For lunch, you can drop in here in order to have an inexpensive and quite tasty meal - during the day the restaurant operates in a buffet format (you can order from the menu, but the menu is much smaller than in the evening) - you pay a fixed price of about 21 euros and get:

  1. One of 2 pastes to choose from;
  2. Unlimited table access buffet with various dishes and snacks;
  3. Water/wine is also included in the price (in limited quantities)

Between dinner and lunch, there is an event such as an aperitif - everyone comes, takes some kind of cocktail (for example, Spritz Aperol / Campari / Select) and gets access to unpretentious snacks, and. Depending on the drink, it costs 5-9 euros. In good weather, everyone takes a drink, snacks and sits on the pier, which goes directly to the Grand Canal to count the sailors passing by. For dinner, this establishment transforms into an à la carte restaurant with a very romantic setting and live music.

  • Working hours: all days of the week without days off (during the season).
Lunch - from 12.00 to 15.00 - the institution operates in the buffet format - fixed price is about 21 euros
    Aperitif - 17.00 - 19.00
    Dinner - 19.30 to 22.30
  • Advice: for dinner - a must-book, and look here at least for an aperitif.
  • Official site: www.alremer.it
  • Phone for booking: + 39 041 522 8789
  • What to order: unusual dishfish soup(very big seafood soup, they bring a small pot), pasta, seafood. Fish in my opinion is tastier, but also good. If you are ready to experiment, try Venetian cuttlefish.

Ristoteca Oniga

A cute and tasty establishment in the non-touristy area of Dorsoduro.

In my mind here you can eat seafood (mussels are delicious in different versions), pasta, salads. Personally, I go here, among other things, for one snack - burrata with pesto sauce (I don’t like this sauce in general, but here it’s delicious). There are various variations of tasting menus with local dishes.

  • Working hours: all days of the week without days off (in season), in February days off on Tuesdays
    Lunch - from 12.00 to 15.00
    Dinner - 19.30 to 22.30
  • Advice: it's always best to book
  • Official site: www.oniga.it
  • I recommend visiting the tour:

Rossopomodoro

If you are hungry in the immediate vicinity of (piazza San Marco) and you don’t have the strength to go anywhere, then I recommend this place, literally around the corner from the main square of the city. In terms of price / quality ratio near the main square, this place has no equal! This is a Neapolitan restaurant/pizzeria chain with good prices and good food. I recommend taking simple dishes - pizza, pasta, salads (I like it with seafood), meat (in a frying pan)

  • Working hours: all days of the week without days off from 11.30 to 22.30
  • Advice: at peak times - 13.00 and 20.00 sometimes you have to wait until a place becomes available
  • Official site: www.rossopomodoro.it

Tre Mercanti

This is a small shop where Tiramisu is made, you can eat it on the spot, or you can take it with you. Also there good selection wines and some other delicacies.

Another Venice restaurant discovered over seven decades ago. In fact, the history of this institution began much earlier. In the 16th century, during festivals, bulls were released in St. Mark's Square and Birraria La Corte served as a place for animals to rest. Later, in the 19th century, the first Italian brewery started operating on this site, which worked until the 30s of the 20th century.
