What does “Beer Heart” syndrome mean and how does drinking alcohol affect the cardiovascular system? How does cardiomyopathy arise and manifest from alcohol?

Alcoholization is the main enemy of a healthy lifestyle, active longevity, and prolongation of youth. Alcohol addicts have not developed the value of a healthy lifestyle as the only correct life principle, physical and mental well-being. Among alcoholic drinks none are safe. Scientists include beer among them; its frequent and uncontrolled use leads to. The consequences of addiction are violations of vital organs and systems, the functioning of the cardiovascular system, serious heart ailments, including beer heart.

Beer alcoholism causes disruptions in the functioning of the heart and causes its pathological growth due to B1-vitaminosis.

Main features of beer alcoholization

Beer contains hop breakdown products and monoamines, which include the cadaverine poison. Monoamines cause the so-called effect of being overwhelmed, dullness. Beer contains cannabinoid drugs, they are found in hashish, marijuana, and also the drug morphine. The ingredients of the amber drink explain the reasons for dependence on it. “Non-alcoholic” beer is also harmful, since it still contains alcohol, but in small quantities. For alcohol addicts, their next binge begins with a glass of non-alcoholic beer.

Beer alcoholism is a more severe type of alcoholism than craving for vodka. With it, brain cells are more severely affected, intelligence is destroyed more quickly, and a sluggish psychopath-like syndrome with depressive disorders, hypochondria, and neuroses is revealed. Complex therapy Beer alcoholism notes the fading of the desire for beer within six months, treatment of vodka alcoholism lasts three times faster. Adherents of the foamy drink receive lethal dose drinking alcohol gradually, since this cannot be done immediately.

Popular brands of beer contain alcohol, their composition includes gas, alcohol, and water. The gas allows alcohol to be quickly absorbed, which very quickly leads to intoxication. The carbonated drink promotes the immediate absorption of liquid, which overwhelms the vascular beds and increases the load on the heart. The consequences of uncontrolled beer consumption are inevitable obesity, hormonal imbalance, hypertension and ischemic diseases, atherosclerosis, heart failure, myocardial infarction, sudden death.

Effects of beer on the heart

The result of beer alcoholism manifests itself in serious disturbances in the activity of the heart, when dilation of the organ, thickening of the walls, necrosis of the heart muscle, and a decrease in mitochondria (energy supply) are diagnosed. Heart mitochondria are subcellular structures that are the main sources of oxygen in the cell, playing an important role in signaling and regulatory processes - the body's response to stress, hypoxia, the effects of hormones, medications, toxic and other substances. Since mitochondrial function is weakened and the defense system is overloaded, the nervous system's resistance to stress is low.

Myocardial dystrophy as beer heart syndrome refers to non-inflammatory diseases with metabolic disorders. The disease occurs under the influence of extracardiac causes that cause damage to the contractile function of the myocardium, heart rhythm and conductivity, and is characterized by impaired tissue respiration. Patients have heart pain, symptoms manifest themselves in shortness of breath, increased fatigue, and tachycardia. At the onset of the disease, pathological processes are reversible; as it progresses, myocardial fibers atrophy, and persistent heart failure occurs, reducing the patient’s quality and life expectancy.

Alcoholic cardiomyopathy is a change in the heart muscle after prolonged beer intoxication with the presence of cobalt. The disease is characterized by a rapid course, development within 3 weeks. The main symptoms are cough, diarrhea, vomiting, suffocation, pain in the chest and abdomen, nausea, wheezing in the lungs, tachycardia, enlargement of the liver and spleen, ascites (abdominal dropsy), pericardial effusion (inflammatory damage to the pericardial sac, i.e. serous lining of the heart). A congestive form of cardiomyopathy develops when the pumping function decreases due to myocardial damage, disorders of the contractile (contractile) function of the myocardium lead to dilatation (stretching, expansion) of the organ and heart failure. This is the last stage of all pathological processes. When diagnosed with beer heart syndrome, patients have an unfavorable prognosis for remission; after complications, they live up to 3 years.

The effect of beer on the musculoskeletal and other systems

Many people wonder why their legs hurt after drinking a foamy drink. Swelling occurs more often; the blood system in the legs cannot cope with the load. Alcohol narrows small blood vessels and dilates large ones, which has a detrimental effect on the circulatory system of the lower extremities, resulting in venous insufficiency. If alcohol fans are prone to varicose veins, drinking alcohol aggravates the disease.

Long-term use of brewing products affects the central and peripheral nervous system. Symptoms – multiple lesions of peripheral nerves (polyneuropathy, polyneuropathy, polyradiculoneuropathy). Paralysis, sensory disturbances, trophic and vegetative-vascular disorders, which are pathological processes, occur. Clinical signs - impaired motor function, tactile and vibration sensitivity, the appearance of burning pain along the nerves, swelling of the extremities, patients have cramps in their legs, they lose the ability to move independently and do work with their hands, brittle nails are detected, the composition of the skin changes, regeneration is impaired, trophic ulcers occur . After drinking, due to excessive intoxication, many beer lovers and adherents of stronger alcoholic beverages complain that their legs give out.

- a serious illness, an attempt by the body not to provide supplies to the cells of remote organs, but to conserve energy for the heart, brain, and central nervous system. Patients complain of numbness in the extremities, tingling in the fingers, pain in the lower leg and leg muscles. The slow death of the nerves of the entire nervous system provides the answer to the question of why the calf muscles hurt. Often polyneuropathy and amnestic Korsakoff syndrome are combined pathologies.

Beer alcoholization has a detrimental effect on reproductive function, and pathological degeneration is observed in it. Toxic substances and heavy metal salts suppress the production of the male sex hormone testosterone. This provides an explanation for why, after excessive consumption of beer for a long time, the mammary glands in men grow and the pelvic bones expand. Beer alcoholism can cause unhealthy sexual attraction to people of the same sex. Women who drink beer grow a “beer mustache,” their voice becomes rougher, and cancerous tumors appear.

Beer alcoholism - chronic disease, subject to complex treatment. It is characterized by a lack of criticism and a pronounced development of dependence.

    Isn't this a scam? Why do they sell on the Internet?

    Yulek26 (Tver) 10 days ago

    Sonya, what country do you live in? They sell it on the Internet because stores and pharmacies charge outrageous markups. In addition, payment is only after receipt, that is, they first looked, checked and only then paid. And now they sell everything on the Internet - from clothes to TVs and furniture.

Beer with fish/chips/kirieshki/pistachios for the weekend and heart problems are guaranteed! Alas, beer with salty crisps is still considered by many (well, in good company!) to be a normal phenomenon. But, considering drinking beer safe and crackers as a light snack, we clearly underestimate their complex impact on health. What does this “duet” turn our heart into?

Drugs in beer, even non-alcoholic

The beer contains hop breakdown products, similar in action to the cadaverine poison. It is they that cause the state of depression and dullness characteristic of chronic beer drinkers.

Moreover, beer contains drugs cannabinoids and morphine, which cause addiction. IN soft drink, strange as it may sound, all these components are also present, albeit in small quantities. This is worth remembering for those who believe that non-alcoholic beer is like compote.

How beer destroys the heart, blood vessels, nerves

Beer alcoholism is considered to be an order of magnitude more severe than vodka alcoholism.

The reason is more severe damage to brain cells, leading to rapid destruction of intelligence, psychopathic-like disorders, mood swings, and neuroses.

Beer contains alcohol, which, thanks to the gas, is quickly absorbed into the blood and instantly intoxicates. At the same time, the fluid fills the vessels that carry blood to the heart, increasing the load on it.

The consequences of uncontrolled drinking of beer are hard to bear by the cardiovascular system. Obesity inevitably occurs with excess fat deposition in the abdominal area, blood pressure rises, atherosclerosis progresses, shortness of breath increases, and the risk of heart attack, stroke and sudden death increases significantly. (10th Congress of the International Society for Biomedical Research on Alcoholism. Yokohama, Japan, 2-8 July 2000. Abstracts. Alcohol Clin Exp Res 2000; 24 (5 Suppl Tenth Cong): 159A-229A).

In such people, each mug of amber drink drunk contributes to progressive heart damage.

Gradually, the cavities of its chambers expand, the walls thicken, heart cells die, and in the remaining ones the number of mitochondria (cellular structures that provide energy and oxygen production) decreases. As a result, cells lose their strength, experience oxygen deficiency and cease to adequately respond to external stimuli (stress, increased blood pressure, excess sugar). The additional lack of vitamin B1, which is responsible for transmitting impulses between cells, slows down their performance.

The love of beer also affects the nervous system. Externally, this manifests itself as paralysis, pain in the calf muscles, cramps, numbness in the legs, and tingling in the fingers. If your legs start to fail, consider that foamy drink has already reached the nerves, slowly killing their cells.

Symptoms: from rhythm disturbances to swelling of the legs

The “first bells” in the heart are associated with metabolic disorders. Cardiac output decreases, the measured movement of the impulse through the conduction system is disrupted, which entails disturbances in heart rhythm and conduction. The heart hurts, the air stops catching, the pulse quickens, the strength becomes less. At this stage, changes in the heart and blood vessels are still reversible (though provided that the provoking factor is eliminated).

As they progress, the heart muscle becomes flabby, weak, unable to pump blood, and heart failure occurs, reducing the patient’s quality and life expectancy. Shortness of breath, swelling of the legs, and a feeling of fullness in the right hypochondrium (precisely in the right, because this is how the liver reacts) increase.

How, with alcoholic cardiomyopathy, an apparently healthy person turns into a disabled person in 3-4 weeks

With prolonged drinking of beer, changes occur in the heart muscle, and alcoholic cardiomyopathy may develop.

It develops from excessive intake of the chemical element cobalt into the blood (it is added to beer to increase foaming).

The manifestations of the disease are always rapid: in 3-4 weeks an apparently healthy person turns into a disabled person. A dry hacking cough, loose stools, nausea, vomiting, constant lack of air, and rapid pulse come to the fore. The abdomen increases in size due to the large liver and spleen. It gets really beery. Fluid begins to collect in the abdomen, heart sac, and lungs. Cardiac output drops sharply, the chambers of the heart stretch and expand.

Such people have little chance of returning to normal life.

Almost half of them (42%) will die in the next couple of years (Kesteloot H, Roelandt J, Willems J, Claes JH, Joossens JV: An inquiry into the role of cobalt in the heart disease of chronic beer drinkers. Circulation 1968; 37(5): 854-64).

Snacks for beer. Hydrochloric acid sends a hunger signal to the brain

Harm traditional snacks for beer (we are talking about chips, dry fish, crackers, pistachios), in my opinion, is obvious to any sane person. Their consumption leads to obesity over time. Reason – high calorie content. A single dose of such products equals daily norm energy consumption (and this does not include foods that are eaten during the day).

Additional irritation of the gastric mucosa with high-calorie pieces increases the production of hydrochloric acid, which is not enough in a standard portion to exhaust its reserves. Then it sends a signal of hunger to the brain, and it, in turn, makes all possible efforts to solve the problem of lack of food.

Today, the shelves are full of beer snacks for every taste, color and smell. But this abundance does not come from the wealth of natural ingredients borrowed from Mother Nature. All this variety is the result of the addition of numerous taste improvers, which are harmful components of beer crisps. Most of them are in chips in addition to overcooked oil and other harmful things.

A couple of glasses of beer on the weekend - and a huge, “beer” heart in a couple of years.

A big heart with no more room for love. A couple of years - and the person is gone.

Don't rush to end your life like this. Time for beer-loving hearts could once have been turned back. But we make them weak ourselves.

Beer alcoholism (gambrinism) is a condition characterized by a pathological addiction to beer. In the international classification of diseases, this term is not considered as a separate diagnosis, but is used quite often in everyday life. Gambrinism has the same symptoms as addiction to other types of alcohol, but it is much more difficult to treat. This is due to the fact that beer is not perceived as a “real” alcoholic drink, which can be painfully addictive.

Causes of the disease

Addiction to beer develops much more slowly than to strong alcoholic drinks.

In the minds of many, a clear attitude has taken hold: “Beer is not alcohol!” This is not true at all. Beer alcoholism does not provoke drunken fights, brawls and alcoholic coma. This drink has a calming effect on the body, so it is customary to drink a bottle or two at the end of a hard day at work. Over time, a psychological dominant is formed, which is based on the attitude “rest = beer.” The dose increases, palimpsests appear, and over time, stronger alcoholic drinks are mixed in.

Beer alcoholism is rapidly gaining momentum due to the widespread availability of this drink. Beer is inexpensive, and the media actively spread the myth that this drink promotes relaxation and quenches thirst. Also, beer production companies often organize promotions (two bottles for the price of one, a liter as a gift), which further contributes to its popularization.

Manifestations

Beer alcoholism develops over several years of systematic use.

At the beginning, there are no manifestations that would indicate a developing addiction: a person experiences relaxation and calmness after 1-2 bottles a day. But there are symptoms that can help determine the likelihood of beer alcoholism:

  • Drinking more than 1 liter of drink per day;
  • Slow growth of subcutaneous fat in the abdominal area, female-type fat deposition;
  • Restlessness and aggressiveness during periods when it is not possible to drink;
  • Weakness, frequent headaches;
  • Problems with potency;
  • Sleep rhythm disturbance (drowsiness during the day, wakefulness at night);
  • It is difficult for a person to relax without drinking beer;
  • The habit of drinking beer in the morning to get rid of a hangover.

Progressive beer alcoholism provokes significant fat deposition in the abdominal area in men. Beer itself is quite low in calories, but contributes to a sharp increase in appetite. And the snacks that are usually eaten with it (chips, crackers, nuts) contain huge amount calories. And since large volumes of beer contribute to an increase in the volume of the stomach, the amount of food absorbed increases with the increase in fluid intake. Accordingly, the fact that beer makes your stomach grow is incorrect. Abdominal obesity comes from an abundance of unhealthy snacks.

Effect on hormonal profile

Beer alcoholism negatively affects the body of both men and women. This drink contains phytoestrogens. Of these, 10% are active forms, and 90% are latent. Only 30% of the population has the necessary bacteria in the intestines to activate these phytoestrogens. In addition to increasing the concentration of estradiol in male body, they reduce testosterone production by 7-10%. The following symptoms of male feminization appear: enlarged mammary glands, female-type fat deposition (abdomen, thighs), changes in the timbre of the voice and the appearance of hysterical notes in the character. Under the influence of estradiol, sperm production decreases, as well as their activity and motility. Accordingly, the likelihood of fertilization decreases, and as the condition progresses, infertility may develop.

In women, the symptoms are slightly different: violation menstrual cycle, lack of ovulation and, as a result, infertility. Excessive amounts of estradiol provoke the proliferation of vaginal epithelial cells and lead to an increased risk of developing cancer.

Bavarian heart

This is the most dangerous consequence of drinking beer. The cause of the “beer heart” was the addition of cobalt as a foam stabilizer. At the same time, the heart increases in size, its walls are wider than normal, and the cavities are dilated. The number of mitochondria in cardiomyocytes decreases, which leads to a decrease in the contractility of the heart muscle. The symptoms of this condition are the same as for heart failure: shortness of breath, chest pain, increased fatigue, palpitations, swelling. Beer alcoholism is also manifested by “nylon stocking”-type changes in the heart muscle.

Impact on other organs and systems

Photo of a human brain after autopsy. Left - healthy person, on the right, who abused alcohol.

The liver of a person who is addicted to drinking beer suffers no less than the heart. Long-term and systematic use of this drink causes alcoholic hepatitis, and in the future, cirrhosis of the liver. It occurs due to a discrepancy between the amount of incoming toxic substances and the filtration capacity of the liver. Alcohol destroys hepatocytes, reducing their number, and further reduces the barrier function of the liver.

Particular symptoms of beer abuse are pain in the epigastric region, loss of appetite and dyspeptic disorders. Ethanol irritates the gastric mucosa and leads to gastritis. Cobalt, which negatively affects the heart muscle, also causes colon cancer and nonspecific inflammatory bowel disease.

Beer, like any alcohol, destroys cells of the cerebral cortex and provokes the occurrence of progressive alcoholic encephalopathy. The consequences of this can be very different: from disruption of the functioning of various analyzers to the development of dementia.

Impact on the body of expectant mothers

There are no multiple answers to the question: “Can pregnant women drink beer?”

Pregnant women should not drink any type of alcohol, even in the smallest doses. Beer negatively affects the development of the fetus throughout pregnancy. First, it causes fetal hypoxemia, the symptoms of which appear during the development of the child and after birth. Secondly, it should be remembered that toxic substances are eliminated from the fetus’s body much more slowly than from the mother’s body. Children are born with insufficient weight, the degree of development of the musculoskeletal system. Drinking beer in the first trimester of pregnancy (the first 12 weeks from the moment of conception) provokes disruption of the development and formation of basic systems and organs, which subsequently leads to developmental delays, the formation of intrauterine defects, and in the worst cases, intrauterine fetal death. Beer consumption is the cause of fetoplacental insufficiency, which leads to a lack of nutrition for the fetus necessary products nutrition.

Women who continue to drink beer in the third trimester of pregnancy often suffer from withdrawal syndrome: tremors of the limbs, an irresistible desire to drink.

So-called non-alcoholic beer is also not an option for a pregnant woman. It contains alcohol, but in minimal quantities. However, this may be enough for the fetus. To give such a product the taste and smell of real beer, chemical additives and preservatives are widely used. They have an even more pronounced teratogenic effect than regular beer. Also don't forget about harmful influence of this drink on all other organs and systems of the expectant mother.

Based on this information, pregnant women should not even ask the question: “Can pregnant women drink beer?”

Therapy

Relatives of patients with beer alcoholism ask the doctor how to stop drinking beer at home or using folk remedies. This is due to the fact that many people do not consider beer as alcohol, which can cause addiction. And beer alcoholism, accordingly, is a serious disease.

Beer alcoholism is very difficult to treat. The success of treatment is guaranteed by complete and immediate cessation of any alcoholic beverages. The patient must be explained the dangers of “cultural libations.” This is due to the fact that the metabolism is disturbed and the patient will never have a normal reaction to beer again.

Treatment includes both drug therapy and psychotherapeutic measures and should continue until all symptoms of the disease disappear

Prevention

Preventive measures must be carried out at different levels. This and personal prevention, and prevention at the state level.

It is better to nip beer alcoholism in the bud, especially for young people, who are very susceptible to the influence of the media and the authority of friends.

Personal prevention is aimed at developing a conscious perception of oneself as an individual and part of society. A person must work on his personal and leadership qualities and willpower. It is also advisable to limit yourself from communicating with people suffering from alcoholism. After all, it’s better not to take this path than to later ask the question: “How to stop drinking beer?”

Prevention at the state level consists of promoting and popularizing a healthy lifestyle. Also good results brings a ban on advertising of alcoholic beverages and the sale of beer to minors.

Heart pain after drinking alcohol is one of the common symptoms that occurs when a drinker is hungover. In most cases, the characteristic pain in the heart goes away the very next day, so many people simply do not pay attention. special attention for this deviation. However, there are also pathologies in which pain in the heart after drinking alcohol is considered a fairly serious signal indicating irreparable violations.

The fact that many people have heart pain after drinking is not surprising, because the effect of beer, champagne and other alcohol on the body is tantamount to poison. When ethanol (an element found in most alcoholic drinks) enters the arteries and blood vessels, it mixes with the blood and is gradually transported throughout the body. internal organs human (including the heart), simultaneously destroying them.

Heart pain after alcohol

The arteries themselves, depending on the amount of alcohol consumed, can narrow or widen, which also has a negative effect on the body. When the arteries narrow, the pressure in the circulatory system increases significantly, as a result of which the heart works several times more intensely than usual, and, accordingly, it also wears out much faster.

Another reason why the heart hurts after alcohol, even in small doses, is the presence in the human body of any pathology associated with the cardiovascular system, such as:

  • insufficiency of coronary vessels;
  • atherosclerosis;
  • ischemia;
  • cardiomyopathy.

In the presence of such diseases, the patient needs to completely abstain from beer, vodka, champagne, wine and other alcoholic drinks, since even these are not large number can provoke serious complications of cardiac pathologies, leading to death.

Exacerbation of ischemia after drinking alcohol

Important! Very often, pain in the heart area occurs during chronic alcoholism, since prolonged exposure to ethanol on the organ causes its walls to become covered with a thick layer of fat. As a result of such deviations, the heart loses the ability to contract normally, and even in the absence of any physical activity, it works at full capacity. It should also be noted that after a binge, the drinker’s heart hurts precisely for this reason.

Associated symptoms of heart pain that occurs under the influence of alcohol

Heart pain after alcohol never occurs on its own; it is usually accompanied by a number of characteristic signs and symptoms, such as:

  • Shortness of breath (occurs even at rest).
  • Difficulty breathing. After drinking excessive amounts of beer, champagne and other alcoholic drinks that contain gases, a person may breathe heavily or even suffocate from suffocation.
  • Arrhythmia. In the presence of such a concomitant symptom, the heart usually tingles. Drawing and aching pains, as a rule, are not characteristic of arrhythmias.
  • Feeling of tightness in the chest area.

All of the above symptoms very often accompany heart pain during a hangover, and in some cases they may well provoke loss of consciousness in the drinker.

Shortness of breath as a concomitant symptom of heart pain after alcohol

You should also separately highlight symptoms such as arrhythmia and shortness of breath, since they are directly related to heart rate and blood pressure. In some cases, such abnormalities lead to a serious lack of oxygen in the brain, which, in turn, can trigger a stroke. Based on this, it follows that pain in the heart after alcohol can lead to death, so you should absolutely not ignore such symptoms.

Pain in the heart that occurs when alcohol affects other organs

There are many causes of heart pain from a hangover, and they are not always associated with the cardiovascular system. Often, for example, the heart hurts after drinking alcohol due to disorders in the liver, stomach or pancreas, which in fact is considered an equally alarming symptom.

Negative effects of alcohol on other organs

Of course, with the negative impact of alcohol on the above organs, their direct connection with the heart will not be observed, and the occurrence of heart pain from a hangover will only be an impulse received from the affected area. However, it is possible to determine exactly what causes chest pain only with the help of modern diagnostics.

Serious diseases resulting from the negative effects of alcohol on the heart

Among all the symptoms in which a person’s heart hurts from a hangover, arrhythmia is considered the most dangerous, since it has a direct connection with the heart and accurately indicates its unstable functioning. However, the heart hurts in different ways after alcohol, and depending on the nature of the pain, tentative conclusions can be drawn about the presence of a serious pathology in the body. For example, the most dangerous signs, along with anemia, are:

  • Pain that occurs suddenly in the sternum and lasts a short period of time.
  • Spontaneous fainting.
  • Constant dizziness. If a person has severe heart pain in this condition, it is recommended to immediately go to the hospital for professional help. Otherwise, the patient may die within a few days.
  • Attacks of shortness of breath that occur for no reason.
  • Cloudiness of mind. Drinking alcohol causes hallucinations, a feeling of unreasonable fear, and panic in a person. This condition most often occurs in people with serious alcohol dependence.

Important! If a person with a hangover has a heartache and experiences the above symptoms, he is advised to immediately contact ambulance, since most likely the patient begins to develop serious cardiac pathology.

Heart failure

The most common serious pathology that occurs in people who drink alcohol is considered to be heart failure. While drinking alcohol, the heart is gradually destroyed and ceases to cope with its natural purpose, as a result of which the rest of the human organs do not receive enough blood.

In addition to the fact that a patient with heart failure has a heart ache after drinking alcohol, he may also experience other symptoms characteristic of this pathology, namely:

  • blue discoloration of some areas of the skin;
  • severe shortness of breath (most often occurs at night or in the morning);
  • formation of cold sweat on the forehead;
  • the appearance of foamy sputum on the lips.

With such symptoms, many people have a question: “What can I take so that my heart stops hurting so much and the other symptoms subside somewhat?” And the answer to it is quite simple: if such symptoms are detected, you should immediately call an ambulance, since if you delay the treatment of heart failure, the pathology will very soon lead to death. However, it is strictly not recommended to take any medications without consulting a doctor, as they can cause serious complications.

If a person’s heart hurts after drinking, and others characteristic symptoms is not observed, in such a situation you need to do the following:

  • Completely prohibit yourself from drinking any alcoholic beverages.
  • Measure blood pressure and take the necessary medications aimed at narrowing or dilating blood vessels (if the pressure is low, then the vessels must be narrowed, and if high, they must be dilated).
  • In the very near future, undergo an ECG and ultrasound of the heart to determine the cause of the pain.

Important! If the patient has a serious cardiac pathology, self-medication is not recommended under any circumstances. A course of therapy in such situations should be undertaken exclusively under the supervision of a doctor, otherwise the consequences of improper treatment can be irreversible, even death.

How does heart pain manifest? Defining characteristics and distinctive features

The harm of beer to the human heart - how real is it? How much beer is already harmful to the heart? How does beer harm your heart? What happens to the heart from excess fluid caused by beer? The harm of beer as a cause of heart attack - is it possible? What is the chain of disturbances in the functioning of the heart that leads to a heart attack from excessive beer consumption?

The harm of beer. Can half a liter of beer be harmful?

The benefits of small portions of alcohol, including beer, have been talked about for several decades. For example, the antioxidants found in red wine are certainly beneficial, if only people could only consume a glass of wine 3 times a week. But it doesn’t work out that way, because people increasingly like to talk about the refreshing effect of a half-liter glass of beer on a hot day. They say that beer quenches thirst and also saturates it with vitamins and minerals. But what is the harm of beer from it? overuse can be inflicted on a person in general, and his heart in particular - they often do not realize.

It turns out that there is a category of people for whom even half a liter of beer can be incredibly harmful. And there are quite a lot of such people - these are “core people”. We have known for a long time that heart and vascular diseases are the leading cause of death worldwide. And if the contenders for second place in mortality are constantly changing (oncological diseases, injuries, or even the consequences of improper drug therapy or diabetes), then the first place is constantly occupied by the same “nominee” - heart pathology.

In the case of drinking beer, heart disease is both a cause and a consequence at the same time. Many people who abuse beer soon begin to notice a number of symptoms of heart damage - this is exactly how the harm of beer manifests itself in those who are unaware of the consequences. Well, those who already suffer from one or another heart disease, after drinking even a small amount of “healthy” beer, feel worse. Why is this happening? What heart systems are affected by beer and how specifically?

The harm of beer. How does the heart become sick?

Let's start with the fact that beer is a carbonated drink. Everyone knows that the presence of carbon dioxide (simply “gas”) in an alcohol solution accelerates the absorption of both the alcohol itself and the solvent – water. Rarely does anyone drink beer in small quantities - usually mugs smaller than half a liter are rare. Rapid absorption of alcohol leads to the same rapid intoxication, and a large amount of water causes a sharp overflow of the vascular bed - the so-called hypervolemia. The harm of beer begins to gradually manifest itself, increasing its power. The heart has to work harder to pump this extra water. The muscle of the left ventricle, which pushes blood into the aorta and further through the arteries, is constantly in good shape - and from here it is a few steps to hypertension. And after it, as if in a chain, comes atherosclerosis (hardening of blood vessels, a decrease in their elasticity and, as a result, impregnation with cholesterol, both through and in the form of individual plaques). Further, the harm of beer becomes more and more severe - a disruption of cardiac blood flow occurs (through arteries already clogged with plaques). This condition is called angina pectoris, or, in general, coronary heart disease - the extreme and acute manifestation of which is myocardial infarction - the death of a section of the heart muscle. This is how the chain turns out beer harm. It is clear that this is not from just one mug, but from regular, albeit small, volumes of beer, not even consumed every day. We are not talking about alcoholism here, just frequent use matters.

The second, after hypervolemia, factor that makes beer very harmful for heart patients is the presence in any beer high content cobalt mineral - it is used as a foam stabilizer. Its concentration exceeds the permissible limit for a single intake by several times. This is done completely legally, this is the recipe, but the effect of cobalt on the heart muscle is not the best and the harm of beer slowly manifests itself. When enough frequent use cobalt (by the way, it also tends to partially accumulate in the body), the fibers of the myocardium (heart muscle) become flabby, contract poorly - mitochondria die in them - the “energy stations” of cells. There are minor hemorrhages and microthrombosis - all this together “finishes off” the already unhealthy heart muscle. The harm of beer becomes stronger, and the contraction gets worse, because you need to pump a lot of blood. Moreover, often against high pressure. Therefore, over time, the heart muscle initially increases in size, compensating for the weakness of contraction, and a person develops a so-called “bull” or “beer” heart. Its cavities expand, and then a moment comes when the heart cannot stand it and “declares”: enough, that’s it - I can’t take it anymore. And it no longer tries to drive all the incoming liquid through the vessels. As a result, beer is incredibly harmful - blood stagnates in the cavities of the heart, lungs, and veins - and a condition called “heart failure” occurs. But it can no longer be treated with grass or rest. This requires long-term hospitalization, IVs, and injections. And then comes a long, sometimes lifelong, intake of certain drugs that energetically support the myocardium. For example, cardiac glycosides (derivatives of digitalis, lily of the valley, strophanthus).

Why do people, despite such a sad experience of many fellow citizens, not fully realize the harm of beer and continue to happily gobble up sausages with the fat dripping from them, washing it all down with a good glass of beer? The fact is that it is the large number of already “suffered” citizens who continue to suffer from heart troubles, as well as the large number of beer drinkers, who create the illusion of the “norm” accepted in society. It seems that what’s wrong with this, many people drink beer, and many also suffer from their hearts - but is this somehow connected? It is the lack of connection in the minds of most people between drinking beer and heart disease that makes it possible for these terrible diseases to remain at the top of the terrible pedestal of human deaths. But this championship hardly makes anyone happy.
