Preparing homemade diet buttercreams is disciplined, addictive and enjoyable! If you want to start a big project (and a healthy lifestyle is definitely a big project), start small.

The granola bars I made today include dried fruit and cereal, honey and some applesauce. The listed ingredients are mixed and then dried in the oven. These homemade bars are indispensable as a quick and healthy snack; they can be given to children at school, taken with you to work or on the road. And even if you are not going to lose weight, you will be provided with a boost of energy and a long feeling of fullness.

Note:

  • flakes should be quickly cooked; if desired, you can replace oatmeal with any other;
  • the addition of dried fruits, nuts and seeds is also entirely at the discretion of the housewife; you can also try adding dried apricots, prunes, other nuts, candied fruits;
  • If the mixture seems runny, you can always add a little flakes; the problem of too dry a mass is solved by adding a couple of tablespoons of water or juice.

Ingredients

Makes 10 bars measuring 4x10 cm.

  • oat flakes 1 cup.
  • light raisins 2 tbsp. l.
  • dark raisins 2 tbsp. l.
  • dried cranberries 2 tbsp. l.
  • honey 1 tbsp. l.
  • walnuts 10-15 kernels
  • apple 1 pc.
  • dark chocolate 20 g
  • sunflower seeds, peeled 2 tbsp. l.

How to make granola bars at home

  1. Pour boiling water over raisins for 5 minutes.

  2. Lightly fry the oatmeal in a dry frying pan until lightly browned and a pleasant aroma appears. I pour it into a bowl.

  3. I add cranberries, sunflower seeds and chopped walnuts into large pieces.

  4. I put the raisins in a colander, let the water drain and add them to the rest of the ingredients.

  5. I stir.

  6. Peel the apple from seeds and peel and grate it on a fine grater. You should get a smooth applesauce. For the specified amount of food you need to take two full tablespoons. I pour in honey.

  7. Stir until a sticky mass is obtained.

  8. I grease baking paper with butter and line a 10x23 cm mold (I filled two of these forms out of the specified amount of products). I spread the oat mixture and compact it well. The layer thickness should be about 2 cm.

  9. Using a knife, I mark cuts every 4-5 cm, without cutting all the way through. This will make it easier to remove from the mold and will make the finished muesli bars more neat, because once the mixture hardens, it will be problematic to cut nicely without crumbling them.

  10. I put it in the oven, heated to 140 degrees, and dry it for an hour, every 10 minutes I open the door and release the accumulated steam, at the same time I keep an eye on it so that the muesli does not burn.

  11. I let it cool, then carefully remove the paper and cut along the previously marked lines, correcting the uneven edges with a sharp knife. I place the bars close to each other. I melt the dark chocolate in the microwave and use a syringe or spoon to apply it to the surface in the form of thin lines.

You can eat muesli bars at home right away; the chocolate hardens very quickly.

Eat muesli as you would a regular cereal, as muesli is generally considered a type of cereal. The most common way to consume muesli is to use half a glass of milk with the same portion of muesli (all placed in a deep bowl).

  • Instead of milk, you can try using your favorite brand of plain yogurt (or flavored yogurt) to add probiotic properties and a slightly different taste and texture.
  • Try heating the milk and then soaking the muesli in it for a few minutes to soften it slightly and make it more like oatmeal. You can also pour cold milk over the cereal in a microwave-safe bowl and then heat the mixture in the microwave.
  • Like other cereals, muesli can be eaten plain. Eat them like you would eat granola cereal.

Add fresh or frozen fruit slices to your muesli. If you want to spice up your granola bowl, try chopping up a quarter cup or so of your favorite fruit fresh, or use frozen fruit for a cold treat. Any of the following would be great to use with granola:

  • banana pieces;
  • blueberries, blueberries, raspberries;
  • kiwi;
  • strawberries (strawberry seeds create a special effect as they add extra crunch to the dish);
  • roast pork (ideal if you want a more savory taste);
  • apple pieces;
  • pear pieces;
  • mango pieces;
  • lychee (gives the dish crunch and sourness that cannot be overcome by other ingredients);
  • pomegranate seeds.
  • Also try dried fruits. Dried fruits or dried berries are often already included in muesli, but if you want to increase their quantity, or in the case of simple muesli, add them there, the following options will suit you:

    • dried cranberries;
    • dried apricots;
    • dried goji berries;
    • raisin;
    • dried currants.
  • Try soaking your granola overnight. A great way to change the consistency of your granola is to soak it in milk, yogurt, or something else overnight. Place equal parts granola and milk in a bowl, cover with plastic wrap or a lid, and refrigerate overnight. This way the muesli will turn into cold porridge, which many people like.

    • Soaking muesli in coconut milk gives it a slight sweetness and subtle flavor. If you are not impressed with the taste of coconut milk, you can add a little regular cow's milk to it to make the dish more appetizing.
  • Add granola to a fruit smoothie. If you prefer fruit smoothies rather than granola, the latter can be used as a topping or as a simple addition to smoothies. They go well together, and muesli can give any fruit cocktail additional nutrition and special consistency. Try the simple mixture below. Take:

    • a handful of frozen strawberries or your favorite fruit;
    • half a glass of yogurt or kefir;
    • half a glass of coconut crumbs;
    • two tablespoons of muesli.
  • Mix granola with applesauce. If you're lactose intolerant or just want to experiment with adding different flavors to your muesli, applesauce is a great option. Try using ready-made puree without sugar or make it yourself from overripe apples to make sure the dish turns out healthy.

  • Cook muesli porridge. Some people like things about granola that others don't like at all. Raw oats in muesli give the dish a special texture and nutritional value that is not present in cooked oats or flakes, but muesli can still be cooked like regular oatmeal.

    • Boil as much milk and water as you want to make porridge, and then add about half of this volume to the pan in the form of muesli. For example, if you want a bowl of porridge, boil half a bowl of milk with half a bowl of water, and then add half a bowl of granola to it.
    • Turn the heat to low and simmer, covered, for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the porridge reaches the desired consistency. Eat this porridge when it is convenient for you.
