Prague is rightly called one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. There are a lot of tourists here, as well as restaurants.

Food prices in Prague restaurants are not as high as, say, in. But this does not mean that having 30-40 euros for dinner for two you can go to any restaurant or beer pub in Prague and order any dish.

In the center, near Old Town Square, the menu of most establishments may very unpleasantly surprise you. But armed with our guide, you will always find inexpensive restaurants in Prague.

General Tips

If you are in the capital of the Czech Republic on weekdays, dine in restaurants that offer so-called denny nabidke - daily deals or business lunches. Typically this includes a main course, salad, dessert and drink. Costs 100-150 CZK (45-65 hryvnia) depending on the location.

Portions in Prague restaurants are served large: salads are mostly 300 grams, meat depending on the dish. Before ordering, look in the menu at the “yield of the dish”; it may turn out that one famous Czech “Boar’s Knee” is enough for three of you (that’s a kilogram and a half of meat).

The litmus test for determining inexpensive restaurants in Prague is, among other things, the cost of beer. If on the menu this intoxicating drink costs more than 35-40 crowns (15-17 hryvnia), it’s better to get up and leave, unless, of course, you expect to eat on a budget.

Also not a very good sign is the presence of menus in Russian in cafes or beer pubs in Prague. If you want to try really tasty Czech food and not overpay for it, we advise you to avoid such establishments (with rare exceptions). All this is tailored for tourists, which means the prices are higher and the quality is mediocre.

As for tips, in the Czech Republic it is customary to leave them in the amount of 10% of the order amount. However, some Prague restaurants include service in the bill - take a closer look at the receipt for the Service column.

Cheap restaurants in Prague

As we already wrote above, there are many restaurants in Prague, but not all of them deserve attention. We will mention a few of the establishments that are worth visiting and which are not very expensive.

Traditional Czech beer restaurant (traditional in the good sense of the word) U dvou kocek (“At two cats”). Located on Uhelny street, 10.

If you are very hungry, order yourself a dish called Česká bašta. They will bring you a huge plate of assorted duck meat, fried and smoked pork, veal with vegetables. This pleasure costs 250 crowns (110 hryvnia). “Veprovo Knee” at the same price.

Another place that is not spoiled by the tourist rush, like other restaurants in Prague, is U Bansethů, located at Tborská, 389/49. Firstly, the Czech traditional goulash is unsurpassed here (and it costs only 89 CZK), and secondly, they brew very tasty beer (in 2010, local light beer even received an award as one of the best in private pubs in Prague).

Be sure to order dumplings with smoked lard and homemade cracklings and onions (79 CZK) in addition to the “Brewer-style goulash according to the recipe of cook Doushi.”

By the way, one of the tables here is reserved for life for Jaroslav Hasek, who even mentioned this establishment in his famous “Švejk”. The establishment is open from 11 to midnight.

In the center, near the Mustek metro station, there is a restaurant in V Cipu (“At a Dead End”). The establishment cannot boast of outstanding cuisine, but, nevertheless, it is tasty and, most importantly, inexpensive. Half a kilogram of fried ribs - 98 crowns (45 hryvnia).

We recommend visiting the Zvonařka restaurant (Šafaříkova, 1). Excellent, peaceful environment - an ideal place to relax from the crowds of tourists. Here you should try spicy buffalo wings - 160 CZK. On average, prices are slightly higher than in other restaurants discussed in the article.

Also check out Ferdinanda. The food is excellent, the prices are reasonable. Pork schnitzel baked with cheese - 153 CZK, beef goulash with spicy red pepper and side dish - 128 CZK, salads (Shopski, Greek, Caesar, 300 g portions) - 80-85 CZK.

They brew their own beer - “Ferdinand”, “Seven Bullets” and “Granat” (29-35 CZK for 0.5 l) with which you can order pickled hermelin. The menu is in Russian, and this is rather an exception to the rule. The interior is very interesting.

True, it is not always cozy, since football matches are often watched here - for those who do not really like this sport, on such days it is better to choose another place for dinner.

Inexpensive restaurants in Prague - two establishments of the Ferdinanda chain. One of them is located on Opletalova Street, just 100 meters from the central square of Prague - Wenceslas Square (Karmelitska Street, 18).

A stone's throw from the Hradčanská metro station there is a small restaurant called Hradcanska steak. The place is not touristic, the visitors are mainly Czechs. Pork steak is excellent here. It’s not worth making a special trip here, but if you’re in the area, stop by for a bite to eat.

Canteens in Prague

If you really want to spend 100-200 crowns per day on food per person, then we advise you to satisfy your hunger in the canteens. Look for the names Jidelna, Lahudky, Obcerstveni. Usually there are many locals in such establishments, the prices are low. Soups 20-25 CZK, main courses 40-45 CZK.

Also among the cheap canteens is the establishment with the name Peklo, which is scary for Ukrainians (the food is not really hellish), which is located in the Svetozor passage on the street. Vodičkova, 39. Be careful not to confuse it with the Peklo restaurant, which is on Strahovské nádvori, 1. This is definitely hell for a tourist with a small food budget.

If you want something exotic, go to the Asian market Sapa, in the south of Prague, at Libušská, 319/126. They sell both clothes and food here, and there are also small, cozy Asian restaurants. We recommend a place called Hai Há.

There is also a good Thai restaurant, The Noodle Bar (Plavecká, 4). A little expensive, the main course is about 140 CZK, but if you really want Thai...

Cafe with delicious pastries and cakes

If you want delicious baked goods, then check out Café Paul, a chain of French bakeries.

The Paneria cafe chain also offers a lot of baked goods. We especially recommend trying their cakes - you will lick your fingers, and the prices are very affordable. So a delicious strawberry pie (weighing 1 kg, actually for a company of five people) will cost 315 crowns (140 hryvnia). One piece of such a cake will cost 42 crowns (19 hryvnia).


One of the Paneria establishments is located a stone's throw from the famous Old Town Square, on the corner of Kaprova - Valentinská streets. This is probably one of the few places in the area where you can eat on a budget. There are about 20 Paneria cafes in Prague. Please check the addresses.

Well, one more tip for gourmets with a sweet tooth. Be sure to check out the Ovocny Světozor cafe. The choice of sweets will bring tears to your eyes (from happiness, of course), and you will remember the dish called Bomba banánová on long winter evenings (it costs 296 CZK - 130 hryvnia).

Beer pubs in Prague

To say that there are beer pubs in Prague (or more correctly “pivniki”) at every turn is an understatement. Beer is the national drink, they know how to brew it here, and they know how to drink it here. There are several establishments that are most popular among tourists.

Today, Pivovar U Medvídků is a Mecca for beer lovers from other countries. As a result, there are a lot of people, but this does not make the beer taste bad. If you're willing to put up with the crowds, it's worth a visit. Address - Na Perštýně, 7.

U Fleku is considered one of the oldest beer halls in Prague. Beer has been brewed here since the 15th century! Be sure to try the dark beer with caramel flavor - you've never tried anything like it before. Just be careful - it’s tasty, but it gives you a lot of headaches. The address of the pub is Křemencova, 11.

Another iconic establishment among beer pubs in Prague is called U Kalicha. The owners claim that it was here that Jaroslav Hasek wrote his famous novel “The Adventures of the Good Soldier Švejk,” while sipping unsurpassed Czech beer. The beer here is really good, as is Veprovo Koleno. For lovers of tales about Schweik, this establishment is a must-visit. Address - Na Bojišti, 12-14.

At Letenska Street 12 there is a basement in which the brewery U svateho Tomase (At St. Thomas's) is located. Previously, the capital's bohemia gathered here, but now tourists crowd. The local beer Brannik, brewed according to an ancient recipe, is especially praised.

We would advise you to visit the beer pub Pivovarský dům (Lípová street, 15). This is a great place where you can taste types of beer that you had never thought of before: “champagne” beer, nettle, banana, cherry, vanilla, even coffee.

The questions that all travelers who are planning to go to a particular country ask are where to eat deliciously, where to try local dishes (and what they are), where the establishment has a good atmosphere, how to find cafes and restaurants where they will not be deceived, and many others aspects of the culinary life of a particular country.

We asked ourselves the same questions before our trip to. As is known, The Czech Republic is a country of gastronomic and beer tourism. And there are establishments in Prague at every step, for every taste, color and choice: you want a cafe that is open only for breakfast, you want vegetarian, you want kebabs, you want French bakeries - what is there in Prague!

In this article we will share 10 secret places, which we found and tested for ourselves and we can definitely say: it was delicious here! And let's share a guide on how to search and find such places yourself. A ready-made action plan if you are planning a visit to Prague in the near future!

Step one.
Explore everything that is offered on the Internet. Yes, first we collect information on travel sites, in traveler blogs about the most popular/interesting/unusual places. Let's take a closer look.

Step two.
We go to English-language sites where locals recommend local establishments. We were guided by Prague website Like a local(). We sort - restaurants, cafes, budget establishments and pubs. Choose the ones you like - the photos don't lie : what you saw on the establishment’s website is what will happen in reality. We read what locals write about the selected establishments, go to the establishments’ websites, and look at prices.

Step three.
We are making a list of the places that we liked. For example, for a 5-day stay you can list 10-12 establishments in the areas where you plan to move and live, plus 1-2 in those areas where you don’t plan - you never know, it will take you :)

Step four.
We focus on the area - for example, if you find yourself in Visegrad, see if there is something you were looking at nearby. This way you can save time, effort and money: you don’t have to make a special trip to some place that has sunk into your soul based on photographs and reviews. If there are no places nearby on your list, then move on to step five:

Step five.
We go into an establishment and evaluate: what is the percentage of local residents, what are the prices for beer and food (this is important, because in the center a glass of beer will in any case be 1.5-2 times more expensive). Let's look at the menu - is it mostly in Czech? So you made the right choice! Sometimes waiters have English versions, but with Russians it’s more difficult. By the way, if you are completely lost in the choice, then ask the waiter to advise you something. Believe me, he knows exactly what you will be delighted with!

Step six.
Let's eat and enjoy the right choice!

So, we went through the same path of choosing establishments and here are the places we tried for ourselves:

1. U Chlupatýho ducha- A place completely covered in legend, which they will tell you when you order food. It is two-storey, compact, pleasantly decorated and, most surprisingly, despite the fact that it is located just 2 steps from Charles Bridge, it is average in price by Prague standards. Very acceptable for the center. The food is delicious, unusual, filling.

2. Kavárna Velryba- pleasant creative atmosphere, availability of vegetarian dishes. A great place to wait for a friend, meet friends, drink wine or coffee and experience the young and energetic atmosphere of Prague. The most amazing thing is that locals come down here from neighboring apartments and are already standing at the door for the opening :) And here, from the very morning, they serve a lunch menu, in which one serving (even without soup) can fill you up for half a day. And for only 129 CZK. Note: if you take soup and a main course, the soup costs 20 CZK. And if only soup - then 40. The difference, in principle, is small, but nice!

3. Pivovarský club- a small brewery with its own beer restaurant just a stone's throw from the Florenc bus station. There are more than 150 types of beer (and 50 pages of menu!) and traditional Czech snacks - cold cuts, pickle plates and much more. You can come here to try blueberry beer or an incredibly complex dark beer whose name you will never remember! But if you are here on a Friday evening or a weekend, it is better to book a place in advance. Local tasters and food lovers like to come here in large groups. By the way, there is also a lunch menu here.

4. Restaurant-attraction for locals and city guests - Výtopna establishment, which is worth a visit just to see and film how the waiter brings your order. A spectacle equally interesting for children and adults. We got on our list from friends, but we ended up on it by accident when we were looking for free wi-fi in the area :)

Address: Palác Fénix, Václavské nám. 802/56 (right on the square in front of the National Museum, entrance through the shopping centerPhoenix). It’s also better to reserve seats, but if you look quickly, you can get in. Opening hours are from 11.00 to 00.00 from Sunday to Thursday, on Saturday and Sunday until 01.00.

5. Most probably atmospheric and authentic Czech establishment - Pod Slavinem. Cozy, with a large summer terrace (it would probably be incredibly pleasant to while away summer evenings on it!), and, what is most surprising and unusual - with a COMPLETE ABSENCE OF MUSIC! As the waiter said, this is their policy. So, what pleased the Pod Slavinem establishment: a large menu, huge portions and low prices - everything is as it should be! The prices are literally low. For example: a 1.5-kilogram shank cost 300 CZK for two. While in the restaurant U Fleku for 250 CZK you will get 650 grams. The difference is obvious. Not to mention the prices for beer, drinks, desserts and salads. Another surprise awaits when you ask for the bill. The waiter puts into a column all the scribbles that he wrote down on a piece of paper on your table. The calculation is happening right in front of you. And one more thing: the waiters never take away the bill for the bar; they give out the change immediately on the spot. And remember, tips should not be included in the bill! Therefore, if you want to thank the waiter, you can simply leave it on the table.

6. Restaurant-bistro, working on an unusual principle for us - Havelska Koruna- located in the heart Havel Square and is famous for its portions and prices. Here, both lunch and dinner are the cheapest, because the restaurant operates on the principle of the Minsk “Lido”, where you can go and choose your dishes, portions and their quantity, and the employees will write down the dish code or weight on a piece of paper. Then you go to eat in peace, and pay on the way out. Losing a sheet will result in a fine of 500 CZK. It seems that you can’t eat more than 500 CZK here :) It’s worth coming here for goulash with dumplings, and, believe me, one serving of goulash per person and a couple of dumplings is plenty. It’s hard to understand how the locals eat about 7-8 dumplings at once, plus soups and salads to boot:)

7. Well, a completely Czech beer hall is Branicka Formanka, near the face Vodičkova 26, 110 00 Hl.m. Praha-Praha 1. Indescribable flavor and true Czechs - all this is here, in 2x2 sq.m. indoors. The menu includes two types of Branik beer from its own brewery, several snacks and 3-4 tables. People with a delicate mental organization are unlikely to like such an establishment :)

8. Traditional Czech restaurant, which is full any night of the week - U Bubeníčků. There is a full range of traditional Czech dishes, fresh Pilsner Urquell beer, but the prices are, of course, decent. But it’s worth coming here at least for the real noisy and cheerful atmosphere of Czech restaurants. Opening hours from 11.00 to 23.30 (but on weekends they work until the last customer). The lunch menu is served from 11.00 to 15.00.

9. Another establishment specializing in its own beer - Pivovar U Tří Růží. And although the prices here are a little steep, if you find yourself nearby and hungry, you need to stop by. They serve delicious fried hermelins (a soft cheese similar to Camembert) with lingonberry jam and several local beers. Although it is a tourist place, the service, service and quality of food are excellent!

10. Lovers of an unusual atmosphere will love it a place without electricity(not counting payment terminals), and so - only candles and here and there stylized lighting - this Krčma "U sedmi Švábů". But we saw more - downstairs there are two banquet halls with very chilling installations. Going for a bite to eat is not an option; it’s quite expensive here, but you can spend a warm evening in the company of friends. Medieval surroundings, vaulted ceilings and fast waiters are among the advantages. The downside is that the portions are not as large as perhaps you are already accustomed to seeing in Prague :) You don’t have to ask for the menu in Russian - it’s not here, but they speak excellent English!

It’s clear that there are so many people, so many opinions, and for every tourist who has visited Prague there will be their favorite establishments and secret places, but sharing the necessary information is always useful;)

And don’t forget, the portions in Prague establishments are actually huge, so it’s wise to order a main dish or side dishes for two. It’s difficult to master the knuckle, of course, but it’s possible. Plus, you can always ask to take it with you :)

I am a former resident of Prague, although I still visit this beautiful city every month. So, people often ask me where to go to eat.

Yes, I don’t recommend U Fleku and Brewery Doom, they are very touristy places. The second restaurant is 100% an attraction purely for tourists.

I answer, here are some favorite places. Ask about dishes, food, I know everything, I’ll answer everything)

1. “At the Provaznitsa” in the center, at the “Mustek” metro station, exit “At the Prikop”, behind the “Newyoker” shopping center. There is a Russian menu, the food is excellent, the prices are good.
There are soups in bread, Svichkova is excellent. The price range for main meat dishes is from 120 CZK to 250, which is considered inexpensive for the center. There is a “Poledni Menu” - a business lunch, up to 150 CZK for approximately both dishes, you need to get there before 13:30, lunch starts at 11:30.

2. “Edova khishe” 3-5 minutes from Wenceslas Square. prices Excellent large restaurant with cool interior. The choice of Czech specialties is almost everything. Tasty.
The prices are good.

3. “Bredovsky dvur” Address: Politických vězňů 935/13
110 00 Praha-Nové Město, three minutes from Wenceslas Square. Very tasty Svichkova, Veprevo knee, desserts. Prices are good for the center 160-250 CZK for the main meat dish. Soup (vole) - 40 CZK, beer - from 28 CZK to 40 CZK. But! They may charge you an extra dish, watch your bill carefully! Extra dishes are often attributed!

4. Cafe "Imperial". This is a purely Czech pretentious place with the main Czech chef - Zdenek Pohlreich. This is Czech, well-trained, coiffed haute cuisine as good as it gets. High restaurant level. It is difficult to find a higher level, but it is possible in five-star hotels. The prices are very!!!reasonable compared to tourist places in the center, which do not even reach the title of “bistro” compared to this place. Prices for main courses from 250 to 385 CZK, voles (soups) - 85 CZK. I highly recommend it! You will immediately feel the high level of service when you are greeted by a waiter who speaks Czech, Russian and English. The setting, the taste and quality of the dishes, the sommelier who talks about the wine and lets you try it :) The interior is baroque, festive, everything sparkles. You can feel like an important person:) Near the metro station. "Florence" or "Naming the Republic"

"Slavia" - Slavia. I'll decipher it a little. This is a legendary cafe () in the historical center of Prague. The cafe is located in a beautiful location near the National Theatre, close to the Charles Bridge. Famous poets and writers once visited this cafe:

Prices for Czech cuisine are very reasonable for the center and such a beautiful place - a meat dish costs up to 200 CZK.

1. Svíčková na smetaně s brusinkami a houskovým knedlíkem - Legendary Svičkova (tenderloin meat with vegetable sauce in meat broth with cream, lingonberry jam and lemon) - 169 CZK total
2. Staropražský hovězí guláš, houskový knedlík – 159 CZK – Old Bohemian goulash with bun dumpling.
A large selection of ice cream (Zmrzlinové poháry - ice cream in a bowl) and pancakes (Palačinky) with various fillings.
Budweiser draft beer (draft - točené - tochene) - 34 crowns - 0.3
42 crowns - 0.5

To save on food in Prague, first of all remember a very simple rule - on weekdays, choose those restaurants that offer business lunches. It will cost about one hundred to one hundred and fifty crowns, but here you are guaranteed to be offered a main course, some kind of salad, and even a drink with dessert to boot. Also, do not forget that Prague restaurants and cafes usually serve very large portions.

For example, salads are usually at least three hundred grams. So before ordering any dish, look at its weight in the menu at the exit. For example, the famous “boar’s knee” in Prague cafes is served weighing from one to one and a half kilograms and is naturally enough for two or three people.

It is also very easy to determine whether a restaurant is expensive or not by the cost of beer - if it is 35-40 CZK, then you shouldn’t even go there, because you obviously won’t get a budget lunch. You should also avoid those cafes and restaurants that have menus in Russian, because prices for everything there will definitely be inflated. Also pay attention to tips; in Prague they are usually included in the bill. If there is no such item in the check, then you can leave about ten percent of the order amount yourself.

Of those establishments in Prague where you can eat at the same time tasty and inexpensively, first of all I would like to name the restaurant “At Two Cats”, which is located at ul. Uhelny, 10. If you come here very hungry, then immediately order Česká bašta - this is a plate in which you will be offered an assortment of duck meat, fried and smoked pork, as well as veal with vegetables. The cost of such a dish is 248 crowns, however, Boar’s Knee costs exactly the same.

The restaurant called “U Bansetu” is also a very cozy and pleasant place, not at all spoiled by the tourist rush. You will find it at the following address - Tborská, 389/49. here you can get incredibly tasty Czech goulash for only 89 CZK. And you should also be aware that they brew amazing light beer here, which in 2010 was recognized as the best in Prague. In addition to goulash, you should also try dumplings with onions, smoked lard and cracklings for only 79 CZK.

Another restaurant “In the Corner” is located on the street of the same name not far from the Mustek metro station. It cannot be said that there is a very diverse cuisine here, but it is not so expensive and the food is very tasty. For example, for a half-kilogram portion of fried ribs you will pay only 98 CZK.

You can also visit the restaurant “Zvonařka”, which you will find at the address - Šafaříkova 785/1. This is a wonderful place where you can have a wonderful break from the crowds of tourists. Order here the special dish spicy buffalo wings for 160 CZK and believe me that you will never regret it.

In Prague there are also two restaurants with the same name Ferdinanda, the food there is simply wonderful and the prices will undoubtedly please you. For beef goulash with red pepper and a side dish you will pay 128 CZK, and for pork schnitzel with cheese 153 CZK. Salad portions here weigh three hundred grams and cost approximately 85 CZK. They also brew excellent beers “Granat”, “Ferdinand” and “Seven Bullets”. For half a liter you will have to pay from 29 to 35 crowns, but be sure to take pickled hermelin with beer.

If you want to eat even on a budget, you can visit some canteens in Prague where they also cook very well. There you can generally keep within the amount of one hundred to two hundred crowns. The second courses there cost about 45 crowns, and the first ones cost 25. The canteens are called Lahudky, Jidelna, Obcerstveni. You can easily find them on the map of Prague.

Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, is an ancient city that can surprise. Stone streets, centuries-old history, famous sights, traditions and cuisine. Guests of the city should take the time to visit at least a few establishments to try the famous dishes and drinks, and local residents will be happy to suggest places and inexpensive options for everyone. Many restaurants, pastry shops, cafes and breweries convey the atmosphere of past centuries. For budget or wealthy tourists, there is a place where they can try popular delicacies.

What food is worth trying in Prague? First courses

  • “Voles” are the famous Czech puree soups, the culinary pride of the country.
  • "Chesnechka" has a rich garlic taste and aroma, warming in the cold season.
  • “Bramborachka”, whose thick base is made up of potatoes and mushrooms, and smoked meat adds a pleasant piquancy. The presentation of the cream soup is also important: it is poured into round buns, which serve as a plate.
  • “Tsibulachka” is the most delicate onion and cheese soup.

Bernard, Budweiser Budvar, Pilsner Urquell - the most popular golden-colored beer with a pronounced malt taste, with a subtle bitter aftertaste. For those who want to try something original, you can visit establishments that sell intoxicating drinks of the most incredible colors and flavors: green, pink, blue, with aromas of berries, fruits, and vegetables.

The most authentic drink of the Czech Republic is Becherovka; it is not produced anywhere else. An alcoholic herbal tincture that is not easy to drink because of its taste, but you have to try it. Many people consider Becherovka not exactly an alcohol, but rather a medicine.

Mulled wine is a spicy and aromatic drink, ideal in the cool season. It is prepared on the basis of red wine, adding various spices: cinnamon, nutmeg, citruses and apples. To convey the taste more vividly, honey is added to mulled wine, thanks to which the aftertaste becomes deeper. In cold weather, this drink will save you from the piercing autumn winds, and you can find it not only in restaurants and cafes, but also on the street.

Aromatic coffee in a restaurant will cost 50 crowns (155 rubles), it is cheaper to buy it from a vending machine or a fast food restaurant.

Beer prices in Prague will vary depending on the type. Thus, Czech bar beer can be bought at a price of 50 CZK (150 RUR), in a bottle in a store - up to 30 CZK (100 RUR).
