Available means

What improvised means will be needed, and how to squeeze juice out of a pomegranate using them? Let's figure it out.

A sharp small knife - to cut the thick skin at the place of the dried inflorescence.

A container with water makes it easy to separate the pomegranate into pieces without the seeds flying in all directions and the juice not splashing all over the kitchen.

Plastic bag - it’s better to take several special ones for freezing. They are dense in structure and will not tear.

A rolling pin or hammer - to crush the seeds with seeds for better juice release.

A thick layer of clean gauze - to strain the resulting juice from traces of seeds, excess pulp and traces of skin.

Jug or glass jar - for storing juice. Do not use plastic bottles or other containers made of this material. The fact is that pomegranate juice is a kind of acid that can corrode thin plastic a little. It may not be visible to the naked eye, but the juice will not be as healthy as it was originally.

Which pomegranate is ripe?

Homemade pomegranate juice will be the most delicious if you use good quality ripe pomegranate to prepare the juice. What should not be on the fruit:

So, we learned how to choose a ripe pomegranate. It's not as difficult as many people think.

Squeeze pomegranate juice by hand - method No. 1

How to make pomegranate juice without a juicer? Of course, by hand. Having chosen the right ripe fruit, follow the step-by-step instructions:

  • rinse the fruit under running hot water - this will make the skin not only clean, but soft and pliable for cutting;
  • cut off the top of the fruit with a knife and make cross-shaped cuts, as if drawing peculiar petals on a pomegranate with a knife;
  • Place the fruit in a large bowl of water and, by pressing firmly with your hands, divide the pomegranate into parts, now try to separate as many seeds as possible;
  • dry the pieces a little and remove the separated seeds from the water, put them in two layers of a plastic bag - try not to put large pieces of skin in the bag, they will prevent the juice from squeezing out;
  • tie the bag so that the juice does not leak out;
  • place the bag on a cutting board (you can do without it) and roll it with a rolling pin or tap it with a kitchen hammer to beat the meat;
  • then make a small hole at the bottom of the bag with a knife or scissors and direct it into a container for collecting juice; you can immediately build a gauze filter on a jug or jar;
  • Once the juice has flowed out, you can eat it or make drinks and cocktails from it.

For a more effective result, choose bags with a special zipper and small in volume.

The second way to squeeze pomegranate juice by hand

How to squeeze juice out of pomegranates in another way - without bags? It will take a little longer than the first method. Below are the instructions:

  • Dip a well-washed pomegranate into an enamel container or pan with boiling water;
  • after a few minutes, carefully drain the water and remove the pomegranate;
  • make cuts on the fruit and remove the outer skin;
  • manually remove all the juicy red seeds;
  • when all the seeds are collected, crush them with a pestle or a regular mashed potato masher;
  • place the pulp together with the juice in cheesecloth, which you place in a bowl or cup;
  • collect the gauze in a bag and press with your hands so that the juice flows out.

The third method of squeezing pomegranate juice

You can get pomegranate juice at home in a third way:

  • as in the first recipe, keep the pomegranate in hot water;
  • wrap the fruit in cloth;
  • gently beat the fruit itself with a hammer or rolling pin, placing the pomegranate on the table;
  • then make a hole in the fruit and squeeze out the juice with your hands, pressing on the fruit.

But these methods are good when you need a little fresh pomegranate juice for culinary purposes. But what if you need this “ruby juice” in large quantities? For example, for preparations for the winter or even for sale.

Extract juice using a meat grinder

Pomegranate juice can be squeezed out using a manual or electric (powerful) meat grinder. If your meat grinder can grind small bones from meat, then it can also handle pomegranates.

In this case, peel all the seeds and grind them through a meat grinder. Then transfer the resulting mass into a fabric bag with a dense structure. Squeeze the juice out of it by hand. Since the seed cake is not so juicy, this process will not be difficult, but will take a long time.

Will a juicer help?

How to squeeze juice from a pomegranate in a juicer? First, you will have to remove all the grains from the fruit. This process is labor-intensive and time-consuming, but without it, juice will not be obtained through a regular juicer. Get rid of not only the thick skin, but also the thin white membranes. So, the algorithm of actions:

  • transfer pomegranate seeds in portions into a funnel for fruit pulp - do not overload;
  • place a suitable container under the juice outlet;
  • prepare a cup for the cake;
  • turn on the juicer;
  • Gradually squeeze out the juice and add the seeds to the funnel.

Among all models of units, choose more powerful ones that can squeeze out cake with a large number of seeds. A low-power juicer simply won’t cope and will break down irreparably.

Presses

There are specialized pomegranate presses that are adapted to the hard consistency of these fruits. But still, even such machines will have problems with unripe fruits.

The press itself is an inverted iron funnel with a hole at the bottom, a stand for a juice container, a squeezing component that squeezes the juice out of the fruit, and a lever that puts the entire structure into action.

How the press works:

  • ripe and well-washed, dried pomegranates are cut in half;
  • one half at a time is placed on an inverted funnel, cut side down;
  • the lever is lowered, and the release component is lowered along with it;
  • half of the pomegranate is turned out, and the juice passes through the filter into a substitute container.

Pomegranate presses can be made without a filter. Then small parts of seeds and skins get into the resulting juice. In this case, you will need to additionally strain the juice before using or drinking.

It is very important that such specialized presses can be useful not only for obtaining pomegranate juice, but also for any citrus fruit.

Now you know how to quickly squeeze juice out of a pomegranate.

Now you know how to make pomegranate juice. Bon appetit and good health to you!

Pomegranate is a very healthy and tasty fruit. The etymology of its name directly indicates that it consists of many grains and its granular structure. This fruit is round, the skin has a red, almost purple color, and inside this exotic fruit there are small grains of the same red color, which are surrounded by pulp, juicy, but slightly sour. Even in ancient times, the elements of this fruit: juice, seeds and peel were used for various kinds of cosmetic procedures. Moreover, it is very useful. It contains a large variety of vitamins and nutrients that are responsible for immunity and hemoglobin levels in human blood, and more.

The only thing is that pomegranate kernels have small seeds; some people do not like to eat it in its pure form, like an apple or an orange, for example. Cleaning pomegranates is also problematic. This is very tedious, inconvenient and dirty because the juice from the grains splashes everywhere. But it’s impossible to completely give up such a healthy and tasty fruit, so most people drink pomegranate juice, and not the pomegranate itself. Pomegranate juice also contains all the beneficial substances, and consuming it is much more convenient and enjoyable.

Of course, people buy pomegranate juice in stores most often, which is not recommended by doctors, because juices from the store are full of preservatives, and most often they are very diluted with water. And this makes us understand that store-bought juice is not as healthy as home-made juice. Therefore, it is necessary to make pomegranate juice, like any other, at home, and close it in jars for the winter, so that even then you can saturate your body with vitamins.

First you need to figure out how to squeeze juice from pomegranate kernels. By the way, before you start squeezing juice, you need to wash the fruits well and dry them so that they are not wet or damp on the outside.

Firstly, you can prepare pomegranate juice at home in the old “old-fashioned” way, which does not require any special tools. For this method, you will need the simplest items that are available in every home - a knife, fine gauze, a deep container, a rolling pin and rubber gloves. First you need to cut the pomegranate into two equal parts. After which you need to take one half of this fruit, place it over the container, grains down, and lightly tap it, on the skin, with a rolling pin. You will see that the grains will begin to fall into the bowl, and you will understand for yourself how hard you need to beat. Of course, this must be done until all the pomegranate seeds are in the bowl. The same needs to be done with your other half. Then you need to pour every single kernel into fine gauze and start squeezing the juice with gloved hands, of course. It's very easy and simple. But if a woman does this, she may not have enough strength. In this case, you can ask the man in the house to take care of this matter.

Secondly, another simple way. You only need two tools for it: a knife and a glass. Everything is extremely easy: a clean pomegranate needs to be rolled, pressing on it, on the table until it becomes completely soft. After that, a small hole is made in the soft pomegranate, and with this hole the pomegranate is placed on the glass. The concentrated juice will drain on its own, although not so quickly.

How to make pomegranate juice in a juicer?

A more modern method, for which you need to have a citrus fruit juicer, a knife, a bowl and rubber gloves on the farm. With this method, you first need to familiarize yourself with the recommendations for using a juicer, and the technique for obtaining pomegranate juice in this way is the same as for any other.

  11. mix all this and add water (for one pomegranate you need 250 ml of water)
  12. stir everything again and bring to a boil, but do not boil
  13. pour the juice into jars and close

Pomegranate juice is a tart drink that has many beneficial properties. It contains many vitamins, microelements and antioxidants. However, only high-quality freshly squeezed pomegranate juice will bring the desired effect; store-bought products often do not meet these requirements. If you want to not only enjoy this drink, but also improve your health, try making pomegranate juice yourself.

In order to treat yourself to delicious and healthy pomegranate juice, you don’t have to buy expensive equipment. You can prepare a delicious drink using improvised means. A regular citrus juicer or, even better, a juicer with a press is perfect for this. Cut the pre-washed pomegranate into two halves, place the fruit on the cone and press. The only drawback of the resulting drink will be a slight bitterness, but if you prefer to drink pomegranate juice with sugar or honey, it will not be noticeable.

If you are physically fit, you can squeeze the juice out of a pomegranate by hand. Wash the fruit and then knead it well in your hands to give it a soft consistency. To quickly get the long-awaited drink, you can roll the fruit on the table, pressing it hard. After this, make a small hole in the pomegranate and drain the resulting drink through it. This method is most often used in southern villages, where pomegranates grow. Without resorting to improvised means, local residents quench their thirst with this healthy tart drink.

Take a pomegranate fruit, wash it and cut it in half. Wrap each half in gauze, place a wide bowl and start squeezing the pomegranate halves like lemons. Quite quickly you will have a sufficient amount of pomegranate juice.

If you want to get pure pomegranate juice without impurities and bitterness, use the manual extraction method. Take the fruit, rinse it under cool water and cut off the top. Using a sharp knife, make several cuts in the skin of the fruit and lower it into a bowl of cold water for a few minutes. After this, the pomegranate can simply be broken: the grains will be easily separated. Place the collected grains in a thick plastic bag and carefully beat them with a hammer. Make a small hole in the bag and drain the juice. The drink is ready to drink, but you can make it purer if you wish. Place the container with pomegranate juice in the refrigerator for a day or two. After this time, you will see that the sediment remains at the bottom of the dish, and on top you have a delicious translucent drink.

How to peel a pomegranate and squeeze pomegranate juice?

I forgot something and started to miss my Istanbul impressions again...

And since one of my most striking taste discoveries in Istanbul was fresh pomegranate juice, for the first time I was puzzled by the question of how to squeeze juice from pomegranates in my own kitchen. That is, without the presence of a special press, which Istanbul sellers of freshly squeezed juices so deftly handle :)

And, at the same time, the question arose of how to peel a pomegranate without staining all the surfaces of my own kitchen with juice.

And since I had absolutely no idea how to pull this off, I had to do my own research. As usual, I share the results with you.

How to peel a pomegranate

As it turns out, I’m not the only one who doesn’t know how to carefully and quickly peel a pomegranate. And it is precisely because of this that many of us deprive ourselves of the mega-benefits contained in pomegranates. So, I hope my experience will be useful to you.

To begin with, we choose two ripe and beautiful pomegranates to try both methods that I offer and choose the best one for yourself!

METHOD No. 1 GENTLE

Carefully cut off the “crown” and lower part of the pomegranate, trying not to damage the grains:

We cut the skin, dividing the pomegranate into slices, but do not cut through the skin to the grains:

Carefully break the pomegranate with your hands - as you can see, all the grains are intact. Splashes - no. Everything is very fast and clean:

Carefully select all the pomegranate seeds into a bowl:

METHOD #2 FAST

Cut the pomegranate into two halves:

Turn the pomegranate half cut side down over a deep bowl and use the handle of a knife or a kitchen hammer to knock out the seeds:

It turns out faster than in the previous method. But you still need to pick out the pomegranate crusts and the seeds remaining in the pomegranate half from the bowl. In addition, some of the grains will be damaged:

How to squeeze juice from a pomegranate

METHOD #1 INCREDIBLE

According to this technology, you need to forcefully roll a whole pomegranate on the table, and then make a hole in the peel and squeeze out the juice with your hands.

I didn’t take the risk - my delicate hands are not adapted to such rough influence on objects of the outside world. But when I meet my Hercules, I will definitely ask him to please me with such a show!

METHOD No. 2 NOT ECONOMICAL

This method involves taking half a pomegranate and squeezing it using a citrus juicer:

Well, I don’t know... Either this is another way for my beautiful Hercules, or I don’t understand something:

There is very little juice, the grains remain in half of the pomegranate and - in general - the process is quite labor-intensive.

METHOD No. 3 LOGICAL

At first I wanted to just squeeze the juice in my centrifugal juicer. But then I thought that pomegranate juice is, after all, a rather tart drink and the best thing is to drink it diluted with water. So I decided to load a cup of beans into the blender, add water:

And grind for 30 seconds:

Then, I strained the mixture through cheesecloth. Pressed:

And the result was an incredibly tasty, refreshingly pleasant and fabulously beautiful drink! Mmm.

METHOD No. 4 MIXED-TASTY

After enjoying my pomegranate drink from the blender, I finally decided to assemble the juicer and try the mixed juice. I took apples, celery and the remaining pomegranate seeds:

And one more important point! Do not under any circumstances throw away the peels, membranes and pomegranate pomace. While the peels are fresh, cut them into small pieces and leave to dry, along with the mixture from the blender. Then pour into a jar and use as needed.

How to use pomegranate peels

You can use pomegranate peels as a medicinal infusion - on the Internet there are many recipes and ways to use this or that degree of strangeness. But I prefer to add dried peels to various herbal infusions and make wonderfully healthy drinks.

Here are some examples of such recipes and preparations:

The University of California - Los Angeles has identified pomegranate juice as "the healthiest juice in the world." Pomegranate juice is full of antioxidants and nutrients. The juice is said to be good for your heart, brain, teeth, lungs and bones. Pomegranate juice also has an anti-cancer effect. With all these health benefits, pomegranate juice is a great addition to any diet. Fresh is always better, so why not make your own pomegranate juice at home? Many people have no idea how to approach this problem, but don’t worry, it’s not that difficult.

Difficulty: moderately easy.

You will need: a plastic apron (easy to make from plastic bags from the supermarket); plastic bags from the supermarket; the guarantors themselves do not need much, their seeds, in fact, consist almost exclusively of juice; a large glass or (better) a plastic/glass bowl; plastic filter/sieve; electric blender; two pieces of clean gauze or cheese mesh; clean hands; glass or plastic/glass container.

1. Wear a wide plastic apron (you'll have a hard time washing a fabric one) to protect your clothes from pomegranate juice. It’s also better to choose not the best clothes. Pomegranate juice stains are difficult to remove, especially from delicate fabrics.

2. Cover the work surface with plastic bags from the supermarket, remove all excess around it so that stains from the juice do not get on surrounding objects and surfaces - it eats into them too, and it is almost impossible to wipe pomegranate juice off of some.

3. Take a knife and cut the pomegranate into quarters. One pomegranate will yield 1/3 to ½ cup of juice.

4. Hold the chopped pomegranate over a large glass or plastic bowl (just choose a separate bowl for the pomegranate juice - the paint from the juice can permanently eat into the plastic walls) and carefully remove the seeds with your fingers, allowing them to fall freely into the bowl. You take a glass or a plastic bowl, because metal utensils will change the color of the pomegranate juice. Another way to remove the seeds is to dip the pomegranate slices in a bowl of water. Water will release the seeds, or help you with this. Then the contents of the bowl - water with seeds - are poured through a plastic sieve to get rid of the water. Note: The water method makes releasing the seeds much easier and faster, but you will lose some of the pomegranate juice in the water. It is highly advisable to remove all white films from the seeds.

5. Process the pomegranate seeds in an electric blender until most of them burst.

6. Fold two pieces of clean cheesecloth (or cheese mesh; or simply fold a long piece in half), one directly on top of the other. Pour the slurry formed in the blender strictly through the center of this improvised filter, placed on top of the mug and secured to it. Then gather the edges of the gauze over the top to make a pouch. Hold the pouch over a glass or bowl and squeeze the contents until the pomegranate juice flows completely into the bowl. It is not recommended to do this with a whole handful - with your hand - use your fingers, otherwise the juice may splash to the sides, and it will not be easy to direct all the streams and drops from your hand into one place and collect them. The hard part of the seeds and fiber will remain in the gauze - but do not squeeze too hard, otherwise you will squeeze them out too. Continue pressing until the juice starts to come out in sparse drops.

7. Mix pomegranate juice with apple or grape juice, or any other juice - if desired, since out of habit, pomegranate juice may seem too caustic, bitter and generally undrinkable. With other juices, pomegranate juice can become softer and more appetizing.

8. Store pomegranate juice in a glass or plastic container with a tight lid.

The color of freshly squeezed pomegranate juice will be different from the long-lasting color you can buy in the store, and this is not surprising: raw and natural juice has a more natural shade.

Pomegranate juice: what is it good for and how to make it at home?

If you've been to the market lately, you've probably noticed alluring bright red pomegranates on the shelves. Eating them in their original form is not always convenient, especially for children. It is much easier to drink a glass of freshly squeezed juice. Believe me, the tart and rich taste is not its only advantage. It retains all the vitamins and amino acids necessary for the body, as well as organic acids that maintain normal cholesterol levels and the successful functioning of the circulatory system. Cooking it in your own kitchen is not as difficult as it seems. And even making repairs after this is not at all necessary. But first things first.

What are the benefits of pomegranate juice?

Drinking pomegranate juice has a beneficial effect on digestion and improves blood circulation. It acts on the body as a natural antidepressant. Regular use reduces swelling, helps heal wounds and cuts, has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, and also strengthens the immune system. This juice is very beneficial for skin and hair. It also helps prevent certain types of cancer.

Pomegranate juice: does it raise blood pressure or lower it?

Pomegranate juice is indispensable for hypertension and heart disease. It lowers blood pressure and has a diuretic effect. At the same time, potassium is not washed out of the body, as under the influence of medications.

How to make pomegranate juice at home

Do not confuse freshly squeezed pomegranate juice with the juice sold in stores. Often, when preservatives are added or during heat treatment necessary to increase shelf life, the juice loses its beneficial properties. Is it worth talking about the various flavor enhancers that manufacturers use? Therefore, it is better to make juice at home, especially since it is quite simple.

First you need to select ripe pomegranates and wash them. If you only have a citrus juicer at home, you can use that. Take a pomegranate, make a cut in a circle and break the fruit into 2 halves. Then place each one against the cone and press it down. It is better to do this in the sink to prevent splashes from flying around. This method is the fastest, but at the same time a lot of impurities get into the juice. There may be some partitions in your mug that contain tannin and this will cause the taste to be bitter. Just add a little sugar or honey.

The second method is more labor-intensive, but clean and effective. To do this, you will need a centrifugal juicer, as well as time to remove all the seeds from the pomegranate. Make several cuts and place the fruit in a bowl of cool water for a few minutes. This will allow you to easily break the pomegranate and remove the seeds. Detailed instructions can be found here. Pour the resulting grains into the juicer and turn it on. That's all, our juice is ready.

When using a mechanical method for obtaining juice, it is better to pass the resulting liquid through cheesecloth or a sieve to avoid the ingress of various impurities (seeds, peels, partitions, etc.).

How to squeeze juice from pomegranate without a juicer

Due to the fact that pomegranate seeds are very juicy, juice can be obtained from them without a juicer. I would highlight two methods: for gentle girls and for strong men.

For girls, I suggest using a regular blender. To begin with, you will again have to free the grains from the peel. Then pour them into a blender, turn on and grind until pureed. The blender must be closed with a lid. Place the resulting puree in a fine-mesh sieve and let the juice drain, stirring occasionally with a spatula. In a couple of minutes everything will be ready.

Strong men can take a simpler route. Mash the pomegranate well with your hands. Just be careful not to damage the peel, otherwise you will have to wash the entire kitchen of pomegranate juice, as well as wash your clothes. To make your task easier, you can roll the pomegranate on a table or other hard surface, while pressing hard on it. The more grains you manage to crush, the more juice you will get. After all these manipulations, carefully cut off the “crown” of the pomegranate or make a small hole and drain the drink.

How to remove pomegranate juice from clothes

Spilled pomegranate juice on your favorite sweater or dress? Don't waste your time. The longer the sap sits on your clothes, the more difficult it is to remove the stain.

  • If you notice a problem right away, quickly put the kettle on and then pour boiling water over the stain. When it disappears, simply wash your clothes. This method is suitable for almost all fruit and berry juices, but not for all fabrics.
