Do I need to wash nuts before frying. Rules for processing nuts before use

As you know, nuts are a valuable food product. Each type of nut contains certain vitamins, minerals and nutrients that are important for the body, so nutrition experts always strongly recommend including them in our diet and in the diet of our children. In addition, nuts are not only healthy, but also tasty, so children most often love them and eat them with pleasure.
It is important to note that nuts provide the most benefit when consumed raw, i.e. not roasted. When roasted, many of the beneficial properties are lost, so nutritionists recommend eating dried nuts.
I, as a supporter of healthy nutrition, regularly buy nuts for myself and my little daughter. I don’t know about you, dear cooks, but nuts are most often brought to our region from Uzbekistan, they are sold on the market in stalls from trays or bags, they are not covered with anything and, when sold, they simply “scoop” from the tray with a scoop and pour into plastic bag. In stores, of course, you can buy packaged nuts, but personally I have questions - what happened to them before packaging, where they lay and who touched them, etc. And then, maybe the nuts are treated with something from insects or for better storage.
In general, before eating nuts, let alone giving them to a child, I always rinse them thoroughly with running water. But here another problem arises - after washing, the nuts seem to be saturated with moisture, especially those that do not have a shell (cashews, peeled walnuts) and their taste does not change for the better. Therefore, after washing, the nuts need to be dried and quickly. It’s probably convenient to do this in the oven, but not everyone has it (I don’t have it), and you need to make sure that they don’t burn, etc.
I use a very simple and very fast way. After washing, I leave the nuts in a colander, take a hair dryer and dry them at maximum power with warm air, blowing air through a colander, constantly stirring with my free hand, until completely dry. It takes only a few minutes, and as a result, the nuts are clean, shiny, not saturated with water, retaining all their beneficial properties!

Peanuts are one of the most popular types of nuts that are used in the food industry. True, before adding it to a particular dish, the product must be prepared. It is known that its husk contains substances that can cause a severe allergic reaction in humans. To be on the safe side, you should remove it first. This must be done as quickly as possible so as not to slow down the main process. There are several special techniques for processing nuts. Every housewife who plans to use this product should know how to quickly peel peanuts. To work, she can choose one of the methods described below.

Frying Secrets

Peeling peanuts is a lengthy process. As practice shows, the shell of such a nut is quite firmly connected to the core. It will be very difficult to remove it in the usual way. Hard work will require a lot of time and effort. Therefore, before doing it, you need to learn how to quickly peel peanuts from the husk. The simplest method is to pre-roast the product. Its secret lies in the fact that in the process of processing the shell gradually loses moisture. As a result, its connection with the nucleus is weakened. In addition, it becomes very brittle and crumbles easily with minimal mechanical impact. Now we need to figure out in more detail how to quickly peel peanuts from the husk.

To work at home, you can use a baking sheet or pan, as well as an oven. All this can be found in any kitchen. To peel nuts, you must:

  • Pour the product, for example, onto a baking sheet and spread it in a thin, even layer.
  • Preheat oven.
  • Put a baking sheet in it for 15 minutes.
  • To process the product from all sides, it needs to be shaken slightly. After that, you need to continue frying for another 10 minutes.
  • Remove the baking sheet from the oven and allow the product to cool well.

After that, you can simply rub the nuts in your hands. The fragile husk will immediately fall off. This is the easiest way to quickly peel peanuts.

Technique to help

Nowadays, in the kitchen, the hostess has a lot of equipment that helps her solve various problems associated with cooking. Take, for example, Its peculiarity is that due to powerful radiation, the duration of the processes taking place inside the chamber is noticeably reduced. So, you can peel peanuts in the microwave. How should one act in such a situation? To work, you need to prepare in advance:

  • special dishes;
  • a tablespoon;
  • original product.

Once everything is ready, you can start. What needs to be done to process peanuts in the microwave? Everything is simple here:

  • First, the product must be freed from the shell (if any).
  • After that, it should be sorted out, removing rotten or damaged specimens.
  • Wash the nuts in water, and then dry them by pouring them out on a towel.
  • Roasting must be done in batches. Otherwise, processing will be difficult. Pour a small amount of the product into a special container.
  • Place the dishes in the microwave, setting it to maximum power. Usually it is 750-800 watts.
  • Enable processing mode at intervals of 20 seconds. At this time, the products can be mixed with a spoon.

At the end, the nuts should be allowed to cool, and then the unnecessary husks should be removed by ordinary mechanical rubbing.

Frying duration

When it comes to cooking a dish that involves peanuts, any hostess is interested in one question. She wants to know how long to roast the peanuts so she can use them as a complete ingredient. It all depends on what kind of kitchen equipment she will use for such processing. For example, in the microwave for one run, it will take no more than 4 minutes. The total time will depend on the amount of product. Roasting nuts takes much longer in the oven. Here you will need to be patient, because it will take about 20-25 minutes to work. If the oven does not work, then you can use a gas stove and a regular frying pan.

The process will go as follows:

  • Pour the washed and dried nuts into the pan. There should be enough of them so that the bottom is covered in one layer.
  • Set flame below medium.
  • Put the pan on the stove and roast the nuts for 17 minutes, constantly turning them with a wooden spoon to prevent burning.

In fact, all three methods come down to one thing: drying the shell to a state where it can easily crumble. In terms of time, the most advantageous is processing in the microwave. But in practice, most housewives still choose the usual pan.

Benefit or harm

Peanuts are a popular product. It is commonly used in food, raw or fried, and as an ingredient in various dishes or condiments. A lively interest in this nut is due to its composition and nutritional value. Scientists have found that it contains a large amount of vitamins B1 and B2, as well as D and PP. In addition, peanuts are rich in minerals, unsaturated and saturated acids, which have a positive effect on the human body. However, there is still one drawback in them: the peanut shell contains elements that cause allergies in many. That is why they try to remove it before use.

This can only be done by roasting. The fact is that raw peanuts are very poorly peeled. The connection between the core and the shell is so great that it is practically impossible to break it manually without preprocessing. Requires direct thermal exposure to change the structure of the husk. Only then will it become more fragile and easier to process.

Before being sold, nuts go through a very long journey - collection, storage, transportation, etc. Therefore, they must be washed, especially if they are from the market or by weight. A simple wash can rid the product of dirt, dust and germs. The main thing is to know how to do it right.

On nut plantations, where nuts are grown on an industrial scale, I often use various

chemical pollinators to prevent pests. One of the most famous remedies is the herbicide sonder (see photo). This is one of the most effective remedies against bedbugs and other insects. The residual property after the use of this drug persists for 5-7 weeks.

The production of nuts is a complex technological process that takes place in several stages. These stages include harvesting, cleaning raw materials, processing and packaging of the finished product.

Cleaning a walnut in an industrial way goes through the following steps:

  1. walnut drying;
  2. separation of nuts from debris;
  3. shell separation;
  4. drying of the kernels.

In large industries, nuts are cleaned using liquid nitrogen. With this method, the nuts are first roasted for 10 minutes at 200 degrees, and then they are rapidly cooled with liquid nitrogen. (See photo)

There are also drugs whose work is based on pressure drops. Special chambers first heat the nuts to 2-3 atmospheres, then the temperature drops sharply.

The most common nut cleaning system is the sizing and crushing unit. It works according to the method of a crushing machine - nuts are poured into the bunker, and the shell is cracked. (see photo)

How to properly process walnuts at home

If the nuts are in the shell, then before eating they must be poured with boiling water for 20-30 minutes, then rinsed well with running water. Thus, not only dust and dirt, but also microbes will be removed from the surface of the shell. Then the nuts should be laid out on dry and clean towels to absorb moisture. Next, you can extract the kernels.

After the nuts are washed and the shell is removed, the bitter husk must be removed from the nuts. To facilitate the task, they can be held before cleaning in salted water for 12 hours, and then rinsed well and dried. Or you can pour boiling water over the kernels for 2-3 minutes, then put them on a towel and rub them with your hands. (see photo)

If the nuts are already peeled, then they can also be washed in hot water, but not with boiling water. Then put on dry

Microwaving will also help rid the walnuts of the bitter husks before eating. To do this, evenly distribute a small amount on a plate and put in the microwave for a few minutes.

Walnuts should not be subjected to heat treatment, as it destroys their beneficial properties.

How to process pine nuts at home

In the process of extracting pine nuts from cones, a lot of garbage, dust, and husks get into them. Before using nuts in food, they should be cleaned well. You can get rid of it using a sieve with a mesh diameter of 6-7 mm. After passing through the first sieving stage, it is necessary to sift a second time through a sieve with a mesh diameter of 3 mm.

Another way to clean nuts from dirt is to wash them with water. This will not only remove garbage and dirt, but also wash the nuts. To do this, you need to take a deep bowl, pour nuts into it and pour warm water, but not boiling water. For best results, let sit for a few minutes. The garbage itself will float to the surface, it will be easy to remove it with a special net or gauze. After this cleaning method, the nuts will need to be dried in a hot pan or in the oven. It is imperative to dry the nuts, otherwise they may deteriorate.

After carrying out the procedure for washing the nuts, it is necessary to get rid of the shell. You can do this in several ways:

  1. With the help of a freezer - first you need to freeze the nuts. Then take them out, lay them on a towel and cover. Next, take a rolling pin and walk several times on the surface of the towel, but not much, otherwise you can crush the kernels along with the shell.

Attention! It should be borne in mind that after freezing, nuts are not stored for a long time. Therefore, they must be consumed immediately.

  1. With the help of heating - pour the nuts into a hot frying pan and fry them for 15-20 minutes, stirring constantly. You can use a baking sheet - pour it on the surface and put in an oven preheated to 180 degrees for 15-20 minutes. Next, the nuts must be cooled and you can start cleaning with a minimum of effort.
  2. Soaking in hot water - pour nuts into a deep bowl and pour hot water over it. Let stand for a few minutes. Further, you can crack the nuts with your fingers, you need to do this smoothly, holding the nut across, but it is important not to press hard, otherwise the kernels may crack along with the shell.
  3. With the help of special tools - the most common way to peel the shell with heavy objects. For example, a garlic crusher or a rolling pin;
  4. Using a microwave - pour the nuts into a plate and put for a few minutes, depending on the power of the microwave. Then crack open the shell with your fingers.

Pine nuts do not need heat treatment, because after it the nut loses its beneficial properties, and the oil acquires harmful carcinogenic substances.

When processing nuts and cleaning, it is important to comply with all storage and processing conditions, then the product will be of high quality and useful. The main thing is to avoid heat treatment and, if possible, eat raw nuts, so they will bring maximum benefit to the body and retain their characteristics for a long time.
