You can color your eggs with curry. How to dye eggs golden yellow

I will give a description of the most interesting, in my opinion.
Natural dyes for eggs
Turmeric: To get yellow colored eggs. You can color them in 2 tablespoons of turmeric. Boil the eggs for up to half an hour to intensify the color.
Spinach is used to produce green eggs. It is necessary to boil the eggs from the spinach for 20-30 minutes.
Cranberries and beets will give the eggs a soft pink and red color. You can achieve these colors in the following ways: soak eggs in beet or cranberry juice, which will give you a pink color. Boil eggs with chopped beets to get red eggs. You can rub an egg with a handful of cranberries to get a soft pink color.
Violet flowers will give Easter eggs a purple color. To do this, you need to put flowers and eggs in hot water and soak overnight. Adding a little lemon juice to water will give you a lavender color.
Coffee is used to produce a dark brown color. To do this, boil the eggs in 250 ml of coffee.
Red onion peel. You need to take 4 cups of red onion skins. Boil eggs for 30 minutes to 1 hour. Depending on the time of soaking, the eggs will turn from bright scarlet to dark red.
The peel of an ordinary onion. The most famous and time-tested dye. The eggs range from light red to dark brown. This depends on the amount of husk used and the time of painting.
To know exactly which methods are effective, I conducted a small experiment and painted several eggs in advance.
There were cranberries in the refrigerator. I rubbed an egg on her. I will say right away that the result was not impressive. It was not possible to obtain an even color. The egg became spots of pinkish-lilac color. In order to get a really beautiful color you need to soak the eggs in juice.
I didn’t have pure turmeric powder, but I did have curry seasoning. I put 2 tablespoons of curry into 0.5 liters of water and boiled the solution for 15 minutes. Then she put an egg in a saucepan with seasoning, boiled it and left it in the solution for another day. The egg became a soft yellow color. I liked it (the photo below is the egg in the center). One note: if you paint eggs with curry seasoning, it is better to wrap the powder in a cloth so that later there are no lumps left on the egg.
An egg boiled in spinach turned out to be light green in color.
The eggs painted in onion skins turned out best. If you want a light brown color, use white eggs; for a dark brown color, brown eggs are suitable.
So, let's prepare a decoction. Take a lot of onion skins, wash them, put them in a saucepan, add water and cook for about half an hour from the moment of boiling to get a strong infusion. Place the eggs in the pan. The longer you cook, the darker the color will turn out.

Today there is a lot of evidence that the use of artificial food colors does not have the best effect on health; there is even talk of some irreversible changes in the development of children. Some of the dyes have already been banned, while others are constantly being fought. At least, no one doubts that you need to be as careful as possible with dyes.

There is an opinion that the shell, although it protects, still allows many influences inside. Remember, when you color eggs, the whites sometimes become colored by the dye. And this is another argument in favor of using only the healthiest ones. In the end, everything will end up in our stomach.

But let's not talk about sad things. Today only good news and good healthy recipes!

I suggest a selection of natural safe dyes for Easter eggs. You can also paint during the cooking process, adding coloring ingredients to the water (make sure that the water completely covers the eggs), or you can color already boiled eggs, then first make a coloring solution (boil the coloring vegetable or spice with water), and then paint in it egg (minimum coloring time is 30 minutes, maximum – at least overnight).

Universal recipe for all natural dyes. You will need:
- 2-3 tablespoons of spices / 4 cups of berries, fruits or herbs
- 4-6 cups of water
- 2 teaspoons white vinegar (per 4-6 cups of water)
Mix the ingredients, bring to a boil, simmer over low heat for 15 minutes. The dye solution is ready.
For a deeper shade, you need to increase the amount of coloring ingredient (spices or berries), and also keep the eggs in the solution longer. The longer the eggs are in the dye solution, the more intense the color will be. Be sure to put the eggs in the refrigerator afterwards! You can put the egg in the refrigerator and in a solution with dye, then the color will be even more saturated.

Now let’s choose a dye:

Red: cranberry
In addition to its bright red color, this tiny berry provides huge health benefits, from acting to fighting plaque on teeth and even stomach cancer! Add mashed cranberries (can be frozen) to the recipe (see above).

Orange: paprika
Did you know that paprika relieves joint pain? It contains capsaicin, which gives warmth, has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Chili pepper and cayenne pepper have the same effect. And before Easter, we appreciate the rich orange hue this spice gives.

Orange: red pepper, ground red pepper

Yellow: turmeric
A key ingredient in Indian curry, it protects against cancer and Alzheimer's disease, and its magical aroma even helps burn excess calories and fat. And the color gives a rich golden color.

Ocher: tea, white onion peel, ground cumin

Blue: Blueberry
Low-calorie berries, rich in antioxidants, fight infections. If you have frozen berries left over from the winter, then use them as a dye, you will not regret it - it will be a good shade of indigo. For a more saturated ultramarine shade, you can add 1-2 cups of grape juice.

Grey: blackberry

Purple: red wine or grape juice
Another beneficial use of resveratrol and flavonoids contained in grape seeds has been found. This is the rich purple hue they are colored in. If purple stains from red wine on the tablecloth are very upsetting, then the purple tint on the eggs will only please the housewives. Dyes based on red wine can be the following:
- 1 glass of red wine and 1 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar,
- 1/2 cup grape juice and 1/4 cup red herbal herbal tea.

Purple: Garnet
1 glass of pomegranate juice and 2 teaspoons of vinegar

Pink: beets
Beetroot juice penetrates strongly into the egg, so don’t be surprised if the whites will also turn pink. But only from above. And you will be reassured by the fact that beetroot ingredients are only beneficial! For both adults and children. They contain a lot of betacyanin, which protects against cancer and heart disease. You can add pieces of beets to the coloring solution (then use the recipe from the universal recipe), or you can add beet juice. In this case, the dye will be as follows: 1 glass of beet juice and 2 teaspoons of vinegar.

Red: red onion skins, frozen raspberries

Brown: coffee
A cup of the aromatic Brazilian brew will do the trick for a rich brown. Coffee is rich in antioxidants, protects against diabetes and depression, so it is not scary at all, but only useful. For 1 cup of strong coffee, 2 teaspoons of vinegar.

Brown: soy sauce
Yes, this sauce colors beautifully. Experiment, it contains acid, so you don’t need to add vinegar.

Green: spinach
An excellent source of antioxidants and vitamins, the No. 1 product in anti-aging nutrition, will help color your skin a nice greenish tint. If you squeeze spinach juice, you can use it to paint: for 1 cup of spinach juice, add 2 teaspoons of vinegar.

Green: green tea
Well, of course, this recipe suggests itself: 1 glass of strongly brewed green tea and 2 teaspoons of vinegar.

The tradition of painting eggs for Easter in different colors, that is, cooking paints(or Krashanki), arose a very long time ago. The most famous legend is that St. Mary Magdalene came to inform Emperor Tiberius about the Resurrection of Christ, and the emperor replied that he would believe it if the egg turned red. And Mary Magdalene handed him the egg, which really turned red. According to legend, since then Christians began to give each other eggs painted red at Easter as a confirmation of the great Easter joy: “Christ is Risen!” Over time, eggs began to be painted in other colors, often using chemical dyes. I would like to talk about how to dye eggs for Easter using natural dyes, as my grandmother and mother once did, and how, in turn, they taught me.

Ingredients:

  • chicken eggs
  • 1-2 tsp. salt per 1 liter. water
  • vegetable oil
  • coloring components: for flowers from orange and red to red-brown - onion peel; to obtain different shades of yellow - turmeric or curry seasoning (1 package - 20 g); thin poplar branches

Preparation:

  1. Like, krashenki are prepared on Thursday of Holy Week (Maundy Thursday). Before coloring, wash the eggs thoroughly (so that the paint goes on evenly) and place them in warm water so that they heat up and do not burst during cooking.
  2. Cooking coloring decoction of onion skins, for coloring eggs colors range from dark orange or red to red-brown. We wash the onion skins, put them in a colander, put them in a saucepan and fill them with water. You need enough water to cover the eggs well. And the more onion peel, the better, the brighter and more saturated the color of the eggs. If you add blue onion peel to regular peels, you get a beautiful burgundy shade. Add salt to prevent the eggs from bursting (my grandmother did this) and stir.
  3. Bring the onion skins to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer the onion skins over low heat for 25-30 minutes. Then turn off the onion peel broth and cool until warm. We strain and discard the husks. Place the eggs in a warm coloring broth and put on the fire. Let it boil and cook for 7-10 minutes, periodically turning the eggs with a spoon to ensure even coloring.
  4. Place the colored eggs in a saucepan with cold water for 2-3 minutes, and then onto a plate so that they do not touch. The plate can be covered with paper towels or folded cotton cloth.

  5. Cooking coloring decoction of turmeric or curry seasoning, the main component of which is also turmeric. In a small saucepan or ladle (mine is 700 ml), pour the contents of the seasoning bag, salt and pour in enough water to cover the eggs (about 0.5 liters). I poured in a little less so that the eggs were clearly visible in the photo. Stir. You can use a large bowl, but then you also need to take more seasonings, otherwise the broth will turn out weakly colored and the color will not be saturated.
  6. Bring to a boil, simmer for 5 minutes, let cool until warm. You can strain through several layers of cheesecloth (I didn’t strain). Place eggs in the broth. We put it on fire.
  7. After boiling, cook for 10 minutes; during cooking, turn the eggs from time to time so that they color evenly. Then take the eggs out of the broth with a spoon and rinse with cold water. If you did not strain the broth, carefully remove the seasoning particles with the soft side of a sponge or fingertips. Do not rub too hard so that the paint does not wash off. After you have colored all the eggs, do not forget to immediately wash the saucepan so that it does not turn yellow either :) Transfer the yellow dyes to a plate. By the way, I dyed brown eggs - they dyed beautifully.
  8. You can clearly see the color of brown eggs dyed with turmeric in the photo for the recipe.
  9. Getting ready to color eggs yellow. Place the washed branches in a saucepan and fill with water. Again, you need so much water that it then covers the eggs, and more twigs. Add salt. Bring to a boil, cook over low heat for 20-30 minutes. Turn off and also cool until warm.
  10. Place the eggs in a warm coloring solution, bring to a boil and cook over low heat until a beautiful rich color is obtained. This usually takes about 10 minutes, but some eggs need to be cooked longer to get a better color. During cooking, periodically turn the eggs and, if part of the solution has evaporated, pour the coloring solution over them. This is necessary so that the color of the eggs is uniform, without spots.
  11. Gently place the finished eggs with a tablespoon into a saucepan with cold water for 3 minutes. In this case, it is better to place eggs of different colors in different saucepans.
  12. When the eggs are dry, you can drop a little vegetable oil onto a cloth or sponge and lightly rub the paints to give them a beautiful shine.
  13. In addition, Easter eggs can be painted light yellow.

Time flies quickly. It seems like just yesterday that Lent began, and Easter is already right around the corner. A joyful time of anticipation for the holiday! Have you already thought about it, made a to-do list and planned your time? I suggest you think about natural dyes for eggs this year. A classic of the genre - of course, however, this is far from the only possible option. Last year I showed it to you - in my opinion, it turned out very, very tender, airy, touching. This time I decided to try dye eggs with turmeric. What can I say? I'm happy. The color came out very warm! Rich, juicy and even somewhat hot! The children actively helped me - and therefore the Easter eggs this time are not perfectly evenly colored, but I like it even better, it turned out cozy and homely, without glamorous soulless glossiness. Well, the children are happy - they proudly show everyone the results of their work and turn up their noses in every possible way, saying that this is their contribution to the preparation for Easter.

Turmeric is ginger's closest relative. Outwardly, it is very similar to the same knotty roots as ginger. It is collected, cleaned, boiled, dried, and then turned into powder, which is used in cooking for a variety of purposes.

In general, there is nothing complicated in the question. Nothing at all. But I still want to talk about the process - maybe you will be inspired by its simplicity and also color Easter eggs with natural dyes this year. Regardless of whether you like the finished result, you are guaranteed to get a lot of positive emotions from the process of dyeing eggs with turmeric.

Initially, it is worth mentioning that dyeing with turmeric costs white eggs. Brown eggs will only acquire a faint warm tint, but will not produce a pronounced yellow color.

First of all, we take the eggs out of the refrigerator, wash them and leave them on the table so that they warm up a little. The main reason for eggs cracking during cooking is precisely the temperature difference, so it is important to place the eggs in a warm place in advance.

Well, then carefully put it in the pan.

We dilute turmeric separately - we took about 50 g of dry powder for 1 glass of water. This was quite enough. Initially it was enough. But the children decided that they needed to recycle another packet of turmeric - and additionally poured a little more spice into the ladle (because of this, it turned out that our Easter eggs were unevenly colored). You are not children, so turn off impulsiveness and turn on common sense - and you will have an even color.

Pour water with turmeric into the pan, add tap water so that the liquid covers the eggs completely. And let it cook - bring to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes.

After this, we leave the eggs in the turmeric broth overnight, take them out in the morning, wash them and wipe them with a napkin.

If you are accustomed to pouring cold water into your eggs after boiling them to make the cleaning process easier, do just that, just don’t throw out the broth. Strain, pour into a bowl, wait for it to cool, add a couple of tablespoons of table vinegar, lay out the eggs and leave at least overnight. There are, of course, more games, but the color will be more even, and the eggs will probably be easier to peel.

Well, that's all. You can celebrate the bright holiday of the Resurrection of Christ!
