What kind of salad can be prepared with sirtaki cheese. Greek salad: ingredients and step-by-step classic recipe with feta cheese, olives and Chinese cabbage

And this time I decided to prepare a classic Greek salad according to all the rules, and used Sirtaki as cheese. I bought it at the Magnit store for about 85 rubles. The package contains 330 grams, but this amount was too much for me.

Package: terribly inconvenient, you simply cannot do without scissors. Besides, it’s hard to cut the edges without touching the cheese itself. The cardboard is thick.

This is what came out after the opening:

but the bulk is smooth, so it is quite possible to cut the cheese into even cubes for salad

Compound:

Cheese "Sirtaki"

After opening, the product should be stored for 3 days, and since I don’t make a salad like this every day, most of the cheese disappears, because you can’t eat a lot of it due to its specific taste. But here everyone has their own preferences.

Cheese "Sirtaki" expiration date

Taste: a little salty, so I add some salt to the ingredients for the Greek salad, but only a little. It also has a sour taste, so I can’t eat a lot of it and add a little bit to the dish.

The consistency is soft and pleasant.

For the salad, I take sweet peppers, red onions, cucumbers, tomatoes, olives and make dressing. I pre-dry the leaves on a towel after washing.

It's best to throw in the cheese cubes right before serving, otherwise it will soften when stirred.

I have a full recipe using Greek salad dressing in my video:

I would like to see packages with less cheese content sold, because not everyone can eat a lot of it, and the shelf life is short. It would also not hurt the manufacturer to improve the packaging so as not to spoil the shape of the product. And that’s not bad.

Thank you all for your attention to the review!

A light lunch or dinner doesn't have to consist of a white omelet or grilled vegetables; sometimes you want to enjoy fresh vegetables on your plate. Sirtaki cheese for Greek salad will make their usual taste brighter and more interesting, and will also add benefits - it has a perfectly balanced protein, fat and carbohydrates. In addition, this dish is prepared quickly and very simply, which makes it a truly irreplaceable quick snack.

Sirtaki differs from regular feta cheese in its brighter rich taste and aroma. It does not crumble, its dense consistency allows you to cut neat cubes with smooth edges. Locally produced sirtaki is made from cow's milk.

We chop the vegetables in the Greek salad large enough so that they look like separate slices and not a finely chopped mass. This will not only make the dish more aesthetically pleasing, but will also create the right flavor accents.

Classic Greek salad

The following recipe for Greek salad with sirtaki is considered traditional.

Ingredients

Preparation

  1. Wash the vegetables and dry the greens thoroughly on a napkin.
  2. If the tomatoes are dense, cut them into cubes; if they are soft, it is better to limit yourself to slices so as not to turn the salad into mush.
  3. We cut the cucumbers into halves, and then chop them crosswise, remove the stalk with seeds from the pepper and chop it in the same way as cucumbers.
  4. Cut the cheese into cubes 1 by 1 cm or a little larger, as you like.
  5. Drain the brine from the olives and cut into circles. Chop the basil leaves, add olive oil, and mix everything.

Since both cheese and olives are quite salty, we first taste the seasoned salad and only then add salt if necessary. Everything is ready! It is better to serve Greek salad with sirtaki immediately.

You can vary this recipe as you wish, for example, making the salad spicier.

Spicy salad with sirtaki

  • Cut 2-3 leaves of Chinese cabbage crosswise into thin strips (3-4 mm), put it in a salad bowl and, adding a little salt, knead it with your hand.
  • There we cut 2 tomatoes and 1 cucumber into slices.
  • Cut 150 – 180 g sirtaki into cubes.
  • We cut 7 - 10 pitted olives into rings or divide them into halves, do not pour the brine from them, we will need it later.
  • Cut half a red or regular white onion into half rings and scald with boiling water to remove the bitterness. Add it to the rest of the vegetables.

Preparing the dressing

Mix 2 tbsp in a cup. olive oil, 1 tsp. mustard, dried basil, black pepper and 1 tbsp. olive brine. Mix or shake everything and pour over the salad.

We stir it, taste for salt, most likely it will be enough, since the dressing is quite concentrated on its own. Everything is ready! It's best to eat the salad right away, before the vegetables drip.

You can replace Chinese cabbage leaves with lettuce leaves or take ½ head of iceberg. There is no need to knead it with your hands, since the leaves are soft and juicy on their own.

Sirtaki + gherkins

A juicy and crispy salad can become spicy if you add pickled gherkins to it in addition to fresh cucumbers.

  1. Mix 2 tomatoes and 1 fresh cucumber, chopped into slices, with 1 chopped bell pepper in a salad bowl.
  2. There, we tear 2-3 leaves of green salad with our hands, cut 150 g of sirtaki into large cubes.
  3. From a 150 g jar of gherkins, pour the brine into a separate cup - we will need it later. Place the cucumbers with the rest of the vegetables and mix.
  4. In 2 tbsp. olive or refined vegetable oil, squeeze out 1 clove of garlic, add 1 tbsp. brine from the gherkins, shake everything until smooth and pour over the salad.

We are unlikely to need salt in this recipe - rich gherkins, cheese and dressing can cope without it. Bon appetit!

Green Greek salad with sirtaki

When preparing this dish, the main thing to consider is the color of the vegetables used. If you really want to add a tomato, it is better to take it yellow.

  • 2-3 leaves of green salad,
  • 2 cucumbers,
  • 1 medium-sized tomato
  • 1 green juicy bell pepper,
  • chopped parsley (1/2 bunch),
  • 160 g sirtaki cheese,
  • 1 tbsp. olive oil.

We wash the vegetables, cut them into large pieces, like cheese, season and salt. The green Greek salad looks incredibly beautiful! Try it and see for yourself!

You see how simply and quickly various variations of Greek salad with sirtaki cheese are prepared!

Sirtaki cheese for Greek salad is an ideal option. The combination of crispy vegetables and the unusual bright taste of sirtaki cheese will not leave you indifferent.

Making Greek salad. Various recipes for every taste.

The name of the salad speaks for itself - this is the national dish of a country like Greece. The peculiarity and main difference is the coarsely chopped vegetables, and not, as we are used to, finely chopped ingredients. By the way, the Greeks themselves do not mix this salad before serving. It is believed that this action must be done immediately before use.

Greek salad: classic recipe with feta cheese, olives and Chinese cabbage

It is worth immediately noting that the classic recipe does not include feta cheese, but feta cheese. Let us remember that this is also a traditional Greek drug, which is made from goat or sheep milk. But during the period of fasting, the Greeks replace it with soy cheese tofu. But our compatriots (and not only others) slightly altered the real recipe, making the salad no less tasty.

  • By the way! For example, in the UK, lettuce leaves are also an important component. And in some countries they even add beets! Also, it is worth noting that sweet peppers (but preferably green ones) and lettuce onions are often added to the salad. Some people like an even more refined and unusual taste, creating it with ingredients such as capers or anchovies.

First, let's highlight a few tips and little tricks:

  1. If you don’t have salad onions at home, you can easily replace them with our favorite onions. You just need to prepare it first - put the chopped onion in a colander and pour boiling water over it. Also, a very popular way is to pickle onions.
    • It's crazy easy to do, and the taste is simply amazing. You need to chop the onion into half rings and add vinegar diluted with water. If you are afraid of getting too much sourness, then add a little vegetable oil and a pinch of sugar. Let the onion sit for at least half an hour.
  2. If you want to create a much brighter taste of the salad, then add some pickled (or salted) mushrooms.
  3. If you decide to decorate the dish with meat additives, then consider, first of all, the chosen cheese. If it is salty and has a rich taste, then you should take light meat (chicken or turkey). If the cheese is bland, then add pork or beef. Naturally, the meat must first be boiled in salted water.
  4. Tomatoes should be red, but not overripe. Otherwise, they will “swim” too quickly. By the way, they should be moderately elastic and hard.
  5. Cucumbers should also be selected from a young harvest so that there are no large seeds. If it is bitter or has a thick skin, then the cucumber should be peeled. By the way, in Greece, cucumbers in salads must be peeled first.
  6. Olives are taken only without pits. Agree, it’s more pleasant to eat this way, but choosing them from olives is a painstaking task.
  7. You only need to dress the salad just before serving. And, in general, it should be done immediately before meals.

Let us make a reservation once again that we will present a classic recipe that is popular in our country. We'll look at traditional Greek salad a little later. By the way, cabbage gives not only additional taste, but also significant volume to the dish. Yes, as they say, there will be much more of it.

What we need:

  • Of course, Chinese cabbage is half a medium head of cabbage
  • Cheese cheese – 200-250 g
  • Tomatoes – 3-4 pcs (medium size)
  • Cucumber – 2-3 units
  • Sweet pepper – 1 pc.
  • Onion – 1-2 heads
  • Olives - half a jar (you can add a whole jar, to taste)
  • Lemon – ½ of the whole
  • Garlic – 1-2 cloves (you can do without it)
  • Olive oil – 5-6 tbsp.
  • Balsamic vinegar (can be replaced with apple cider vinegar) – no more than 1 tbsp.
  • Salt and other spices (for example, a mixture of dried Italian herbs) - to taste

Next steps:

  1. The first step is to prepare the sauce or the so-called dressing. Mix vinegar and oil, add spices and chopped garlic to the resulting liquid. Use a garlic press or grater, but do not cut with a knife.
    • By the way! You should be extremely careful with salt, since the cheese used is also salty. Therefore, make sure that there is no oversalting.
  2. Bryndza cubes, about 1 by 1 cm. We work with the cheese gently, as it is quite fragile. Add to the sauce and stir lightly. The cheese should have time to soak. This will make it fragrant and colorful.
  3. Peel the cucumber and cut into rings. Quite large too.
  4. Chop the pepper into strips and cut the tomato into slices. If you use small tomatoes, they can only be divided into four parts.
  5. Naturally, chop the cabbage, but not too finely.
  6. Combine the vegetables in the prepared container and pour over the sauce prepared in advance. Stir the salad a little, but don't stir it like we usually do. The more diligently and carefully, the better the result will be. This method does not work for Greek salad.
  7. Sprinkle with olives before serving. It depends on your imagination and taste preferences. You can leave them whole, you can divide them in half, or you can even cut them into circles.

How to make a delicious Greek salad dressing at home

Of course, there are several options for sauces and dressings for Greek salad. First of all, you need to consider your taste preferences. They often resort to sweet ingredients, such as sugar or honey. And when combined with garlic or mustard, the taste is balanced and unusual.

The simplest traditional way:

  • We won’t even begin to make a list of the necessary ingredients - lemon juice and olive oil. You need to take them in a ratio of 1:2
  • And then add any herbs (the Greeks use oregano) and salt. Whisk everything well and you can pour it over the prepared salad.
  • But the sauce made must sit for some time. The process of chopping vegetables completely will give the necessary time

No less popular, but a little complicated filling option:

  • Balsamic vinegar - ¼ tbsp.
  • Olive oil – ¾ tbsp.
  • Brown sugar – 2 tsp.
  • Garlic – 6-7 cloves;
  • Salt and ground pepper - to taste.

It’s worth highlighting right away that you can use apple cider vinegar, but it must be of excellent quality. Otherwise, you can ruin the taste of the salad.

  • First of all, whisk the vinegar and sugar using a whisk.
  • Add crushed garlic. Then add salt and pepper
  • Continuing to beat, add oil in a thin stream
  • I wanted to add a few words about garlic. The fact is that the Greeks consider such an ingredient unacceptable for this salad. Therefore, it is important not to overdo it with the dose, so as not to create a bitter and too pungent taste.
  • There is no need to infuse this dressing; it is already ready for use.

Very unusual and delicious sauce for Greek salad:

You will need:

  • soy sauce – 2 tbsp.
  • olive oil – 4 tbsp.
  • lemon juice – 2 tbsp.
  • honey – 1 tbsp.

The last component, of course, must be taken in a liquid state. Whisk honey and soy sauce until completely dissolved.

  • First add lemon juice and then add olive oil. At the same time, constantly whisking the dressing
  • The advantage of this sauce is that it can be stored in the refrigerator for another two weeks. By the way, it is also perfect for dressing other vegetable salads.

Let’s also use mustard as an assistant:

  • Dijon mustard – 0.5 tsp.
  • vinegar (also wine, red) – 1 tbsp.
  • olive oil – 2 tbsp.
  • garlic – 2-3 cloves
  • oregano (dried) – 1 tsp.
  • salt, pepper

In this recipe, the dry ingredients are mixed first, that is, chopped garlic and oregano. Grind well.

  • Then mustard is added and vinegar is poured in
  • Lastly, of course, olive oil is added.
  • By the way, you can add a teaspoon of honey to this sauce if you wish. And also, for those who like it, you can replace Dijon with hot mustard

If you decide to use two types of oil:

  • olive and vegetable oil - one glass
  • wine vinegar - half a glass
  • garlic – 2 cloves
  • basil – 0.5 tsp.
  • brown sugar – 1 tbsp.
  • and, of course, salt and pepper to taste

A little advice - brown sugar is considered less sweet, so, if desired, it can be replaced with regular white sugar. By the way, it does not absorb liquid that much.

  • Combine all ingredients except oils. It is important to leave them for at least half an hour so that the sugar and salt have time to dissolve and all the components are saturated with vinegar.
  • The oil should be introduced in a thin stream, first vegetable oil, and finally olive oil.
  • This sauce is not stored for a long time, and a salad dressed with it should be eaten immediately

Tzatziki or Greek-Turkish sauce:

This sauce is based on goat's milk yogurt, but if finding it is problematic, you can replace it with regular sour cream. Just not too fatty, maximum 15%. And yet, this sauce is considered an excellent addition to any vegetable salad:

  • yogurt or sour cream - 1 cup
  • cucumber (fresh) – 1 pc.
  • vinegar – 0.5 cups (you can use table vinegar, but apple vinegar would be preferable)
  • olive oil – 3 tbsp.
  • garlic – 4 cloves
  • salt and dry herbs (you can even use regular dill)

In this recipe, you first need to deal with the cucumber - peel and grate it on a fine grater.

  • Add sour cream (or yogurt) and all the spices to it.
  • While stirring, carefully pour in the vinegar and finally add the oil.
  • I would like to add that such a sauce will add lightness and freshness to a meat dish. Even with simple bread, such a delicacy will be unforgettable.

IMPORTANT: To prepare the sauce (any of the above methods), pay attention to the dishes. A metal plate can spoil the taste. Therefore, you should choose only ceramic containers. In extreme cases, a plastic container will do.

Greek salad: what spices, seasonings, what cheese is suitable?

We have figured out what the main composition of Greek salad is, now let’s turn our attention to spices and seasonings. And don't forget that cheese plays the most important role.

  • The only seasonings that can be distinguished are salt and ground black pepper. You can also use ground red pepper and garlic (but it is not used in this recipe). All! Nothing more is needed.
    • If we talk about spices, then in the classic version they use only oregano or basil. As they say, simple and tasteful.
    • If we talk about non-classical options (even, let’s say, original ones), then complete freedom of imagination is given. These could be pine nuts, almonds or even pumpkin seeds.
    • If you want to give the dish a little Moroccan flavor, then add some toasted sesame seeds. And add a teaspoon of honey.
    • If we talk about the usual seasonings, it could be cumin, a mixture of Italian herbs, and even regular dill or parsley.

  • Now a few words about cheese:
    • Ideally, use feta cheese. But we have modified the traditional recipe so much that you can use any other cheese. But! Soft varieties. That is, it can be feta cheese, fetax, sirtaki or even mozzarella (but they put a little of it in the salad and cut it into smaller pieces).

Greek salad with sirtaki, fetax, feta, mozzarella, Adyghe cheese: recipe

The whole secret of such a salad, undoubtedly, lies in the cheese - it can be feta, fetax or sirtaki. You can also use Adyghe cheese or mozzarella. The main thing is salted cheese, and which of these similar ones you choose is entirely your choice. The taste will still be amazing!

Traditional or classic recipe.

  • cucumber and tomato – 2 units each;
  • feta – 200 g;
  • red salad onion;
  • a jar of pitted olives;
  • sweet green pepper;
  • half a lemon;
  • olive oil – 3-4 tbsp. l;
  • salt to taste and a pinch of oregano

Let's look at all the details in detail:

  1. In the correct recipe, cucumbers are peeled and cut into cubes. Moreover, in fairly large pieces - 1.5-2 centimeters.
  2. The tomato is divided into 10 parts. That is, let's explain in detail - they cut it in half, each half was cut again. And those who received quarters also divided them.
  3. Pepper mode into strips, but not thin. About the thickness of a finger (well, a little less).
  4. Onion mode rings. Yes, exactly the rings. If you are confused by this cutting method, you can do it in the usual way - chop it into half rings. But not too subtle. This is why it is important to take a salad onion or pour boiling water over it.
  5. Salt, pepper and sprinkle all the vegetables with other seasonings (you can, for example, use basil) and pour in the dressing. We will not repeat how to prepare it, since we indicated this in the previous paragraph.
  6. Vegetables should be mixed carefully. Use two spatulas (or spoons) for this and simply lift them from the bottom.
  7. Cut the feta into cubes. By the way, the Greeks do not cut the cheese too large, but they also do not puree it. Let's just say it's medium size. The cheese is placed on top in random order. After which the salad does not mix!
  8. The olives can be placed whole on top of the salad, or they can be cut in half. But you need to do this along the olive tree.
  9. There is no need to additionally decorate the salad with herbs.

Cheeses in Greek salad

Using this recipe, you can prepare similar salads, just using a different cheese. But here is another recipe that involves the use of sirtaki cheese. But, again, it can be replaced with another similar one.

  • tomato and cucumber – 3 pieces each;
  • bell pepper – 2 units;
  • lettuce leaves - 1 bunch;
  • sirtaki cheese – 150 g;
  • olives – 1 jar (pitted, of course);
  • olive oil – 4 tbsp. l;
  • juice of one lemon (or 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar);
  • basil and oregano - 1 tsp each;
  • rosemary – 0.5 tsp.
  • Chop the vegetables in any order, in any shape, the main thing is not too small. Approximate dimensions should be 1-2 cm.
  • Place lettuce leaves on a plate and place vegetables on top. Important - each plate will be a separate dish. That is, a personal meal for everyone.
  • Place cheese (cut into cubes) and olives (whole) on top. Pour sauce on top. No need to stir.

Greek salad with chicken and croutons: recipe in layers

This is the exact opposite recipe that the Greeks are used to seeing. Yes, it is radically different in composition, but such a salad will turn out to be highly nutritious and substantial. And the taste will be simply divine!

Of course, ingredients such as tomato, cucumber, pepper and onion remain, how could it be without them. Cheese is generally a significant component, without which a Greek salad would cease to be such. Oh yes, don't forget the olives either. Therefore, let's proceed directly to the additional ingredients:

  • Chicken fillet – 100-200 g
  • White bread – 4-5 slices
  • Lettuce (leaves) – several sprigs
  • Olive oil and herbs (dry) - to taste

Puff Greek

It’s definitely better to make crackers yourself. If someone decides to use store-bought ones with all sorts of seasonings for this purpose, then throw this thought out of your head right away. Cut the bread into small squares and fry in vegetable oil until golden brown. Just a small nuance - you need just a little oil so that the crackers don’t turn out too greasy.

IMPORTANT: If you add a little more dry herbs during the frying process, the taste will only become richer and brighter. You can also add a few cloves of garlic if you wish. Of course, it needs to be put through a garlic press. Then fry for a few more minutes.

  • Cut the fillet into medium-sized squares and can be boiled in salted water (if you want a dietary option), or lightly fry in vegetable oil until golden brown.
  • Vegetables are not cut into small pieces (squares, slices or cubes), onions are cut into half rings
  • Wash the salad and place on a plate. Place our cooked vegetables on top
  • Then a layer of chicken is made, fetax (cheese or other cheese) and halves of olives are placed in random order (half a jar is more than enough for this recipe)
  • And at the final stage our crackers are laid out. The finishing touch is to drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with your favorite spices. If you want, you can sprinkle a little more lemon juice.

Greek salad with shrimp and avocado: recipe in layers

This recipe will simply amaze your household and amaze your guests. Yes, the combination is unusual and every day, let’s say, making such a dish would be a little expensive. But it's worth it!

This salad turns out to be a dietary dish thanks to the shrimp. And avocado will give you that necessary satiety and charge the body with many useful elements. Although a fruit such as avocado is considered an exotic food, it does not have a pronounced taste. It is a little similar to unripe pumpkin and pear. More precisely, something similar between them.

What do we need:

  • of course, tomato, bell pepper and cucumber - 1 piece each;
  • a few leaves of lettuce and cilantro;
  • shrimp – at least 300 g (you must agree, the more, the tastier);
  • avocado – 1-2 pieces (this is not for everyone).

IMPORTANT: This salad cannot be called Greek, it is considered only similar to it. Why? Yes, because the secret ingredient is missing - cheese!

For dressing, you can use the simplest method based on olive oil and lemon juice. Or you can use yogurt sauce. We indicated above how to prepare such a dressing. But we want to present a slightly simplified version.

  • yogurt (or light sour cream) – 120 g
  • vinegar (apple vinegar only) – 1-2 tsp.
  • garlic – 2 cloves
  • salt, pepper and other spices - at your discretion

This salad still lacks one important difference - the size of the cuts. Yes, all components are cut relatively finely. But without fanaticism.

  • You cut the vegetables as you please, but the avocado is first peeled and cut into small cubes
    • By the way! Avocado is considered an excellent substitute for chicken meat
  • Of course, defrost the shrimp, boil and peel
  • Next, prepare the sauce. There’s nothing simpler you can think of – just combine all the ingredients and whisk thoroughly
  • Lay the salad in layers so that there are lettuce leaves on top and shrimp on them
  • Lettuce leaves in this version (as in most cases) are used more for beauty. But no one forbids eating such a leaf
  • Finally, sprinkle chopped cilantro on top.

How to beautifully decorate a festive Greek salad for the New Year, Birthday, Valentine's Day, March 8, February 23, wedding, anniversary?

If we talk about decorating the salad, the Greeks do not use any decorations and consider it unnecessary. But we are used to adding a touch of originality and surprising our guests and household members every time. In this matter, the main thing is the work of imagination, inspiration and great desire. And also, time. Because any decoration takes a lot of time and requires a lot of patience.

  • First of all, I wanted to highlight that the presentation itself can be made original. For example, string all the ingredients onto a skewer. To make one serving. True, this variation is more suitable for a buffet table.
  • You can cut flowers from carrots or lilies from cucumbers. Some people make beautiful flowers from onions. But do not forget that these decorations are purely to create an attractive appearance. By the way, flowers would be very appropriate for March 8th or a girl’s birthday.
  • On February 23, you can lay out olives in the form of a tank or the number “23”.

  • For Valentine's Day, naturally, lay it out in the shape of a heart. By the way, for these purposes it is more convenient to use not the classic recipe, but, for example, with shrimp. You can place finely chopped tomatoes on top of the heart to make the dish also a symbol of passion - red.
  • For the New Year, you can lay out a sprig of green onions or dill (more realistic) and make balls of carrots, tomatoes and cucumbers.
  • You can also cut flowers from peppers and make baskets from tomatoes. And also, penguins made from olives will look original.

In fact, Greek salad does not require decoration or any special presentation. This salad itself is unusual and loved by everyone. After all, it is fresh, spicy and aromatic. We hope you will find new useful aspects for yourself in these recipes, and be sure to prepare a salad for your loved ones.
