In addition, the dish can be “complicated”. Before frying, unroll each stick and coat it with cheese and garlic filling. Stuffed crab sticks with cheese in a delicate batter will have a completely different taste.
When serving the appetizer to the table, it can be decorated with lettuce leaves, chopped fresh vegetables, and multi-colored decorative skewers.

By the way, you can take mayonnaise with spicy additives, for example, garlic or chili sauce, then you don’t need to add spices to the dough so as not to overdo it with the spicy taste.
There should be a lot of oil for deep frying, and it is very important to use purified, refined oil so as not to spoil the taste of the delicate imitation crab with a heavy smell.

Calorie content

If the housewife decides to prepare a recipe, and if she does, then she will definitely find out its calorie content for herself. In this case, crab sticks in batter are a low-calorie product. In addition, the food is rich in proteins, has a certain percentage of vegetable fats and has virtually no carbohydrates.

The calorie content of most recipes for crab sticks in batter is low, so you don’t have to worry too much about extra pounds

But unfortunately, not everything is so rosy in this dish - a large amount of fat (if we are talking about deep-frying) and a lack of options. Food suitable only for special occasions, but heavy for everyday regular food. Although sometimes you can treat yourself. Right?

A little more about crab sticks, composition, benefits and harm

In fact, these sticks do not contain crab or crayfish, they are simply named that way because of their taste. They are made mainly from ocean fish (surimi minced fish), the distinctive feature of which is its rather low content of harmful fats. Therefore, the calorie content of crab sticks is low, and they are often used by nutritionists to prepare for weight loss. Calorie content of crab sticks - 73 Kcal / 100 g.

As for naturalness of crab sticks, then this largely depends on the manufacturer, but in general, they are more natural than the so-called “fish sticks”, burgers or nuggets. And yet, some manufacturers allow the addition of various synthetic substances to the sticks, such as dyes and preservatives, which can pose some degree of danger to the body, so it is important to read the composition on the packaging - unfortunately, there is now enough “synthetic goodness” in any product on store shelves.

Study the composition of crab sticks, and indeed any product, before purchasing. Yes, there are a lot of strange names, but if your health is important to you, you will become an expert by studying the harm or benefit of each of these substances

For example, if the product is too bright, then most likely the manufacturer has gone too far with dyes, therefore it must be treated with caution. Also make sure there is no soy in the ingredients. Study the manufacturers of crab sticks, read reviews on such authoritative resources as Otzovik, etc., and also get involved in the work of identifying unscrupulous manufacturers of crab sticks.

For the batter:

  • a pinch of soda,
  • 1.5 cups flour.

Batter recipe

Break the eggs and shake them. Add two spoons of mayonnaise. Pour a glass of beer, add a pinch of soda. Mix well. Add flour. Whisk until no lumps remain. The consistency of the batter should be liquid, see photo below. Approximately the dough should turn out like for pancakes.

How to cook crab sticks in batter

For this amount of dough it took me 600 grams of sticks. (It is better to buy crab sticks in bulk.)

Then everything is very simple. Pour vegetable oil into a frying pan and heat it up. Dip each stick in the batter and place in the frying pan. Pour the remaining batter in the spoon over the top of the stick. When the dough has risen and becomes spongy, turn it over. Fry on each side for a couple of minutes.

What I liked most is that the finished sticks are not at all greasy. As it happens, for example, with pies, when the oil just drips from them. Yes, and it’s the same story. I don't know why this batter repels oil, maybe it's because of the beer or mayonnaise it contains, but I really like it. Plus the dough is very airy and porous. In general, try to cook it, you won’t regret it, that’s for sure. Serve while it's hot. By the way, this batter is also very good for frying sausages and fish. Have a nice one)
